Events in Sarasota: Throughout the year and mainly during "Snowbird Season" and "High Season" there are numerous recurring, fun events in Sarasota to keep one and all busy and entertained.

From things to do at the beach or a stroll through the local artist community to, perhaps, a farmer's market, there's something for everyone.

Here below, then, is an ever growing list of fun events that happen on a more frequent schedule in Sarasota and around the Sun Coast area.

Tuesday - Wednesday

Kids Summer Beach Runs
Every Tuesday and Wednesday evening through summer
Registration starts at 5:30 p.m., race time: 6:30 p.m.
Begins: June 13 & 14, 2017 - Through August 8 - 9, 2017
One of the Annual Summer Events in Sarasota:The Kids Summer Beach Runs are 1-mile beach runs held every Tuesday (through Aug. 8) at Siesta Beach on Siesta Key near the pavilion, and every Wednesday (through Aug. 9) at Brohard Beach (1600 Harbor Drive) next to the Venice Fishing Pier, near Fins at Sharky's, Venice. Participation ribbons awarded along with a free ice pop each week. Registration at each location begins at 5:30 p.m. and the beach run starts promptly at 6:30 p.m. There's a one-time $1 registration fee. The runs are a popular summer event combining exercise and fun. More at 941-861-5000.

Wednesday

Phillippi Farmhouse Market
Every Wednesday from October through April
9 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Features locally grown fruits and vegetables, including local USDA certified organic produce and hydroponics. There are also plants, herbs, hanging baskets, shrubs and cut flowers for sale along with a wide variety of locally baked goods, delicious barbeque, plenty of food and beverage vendors, arts and crafts, soaps and candles and always live music. 5500 S. Nokomis Beach Drum Circle
Every Wednesday Evening, before and leading up to sunset.
Year round
One of the weekly events in Sarasota: This informal group gathers to beat their drums, bongos, tambourines and whatever else they have. The rhythms get going an hour or so before sunset and end with a crescendo as the sun dips out of sight. Bring your own drum or tambourine, beach chair, cooler with refreshments and even a picnic basket and join in the zany fun.

"Live from Downtown it's Friday Night!"
Three Friday Nights a month
6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.
Enjoy live street performers featuring a different downtown neighborhood each week. 1st Friday of the month: Main Street at 5 Points Park & Palm Avenue, 2nd Friday of the month: Burns Square (November through May): from Mound Avenue to Ringling Boulevard along South Pineapple and South Orange Avenues and 3rd Friday of the month: Towles Court (Adams & Washington area).

Art Walks on Palm Avenue
First Friday of each Month
6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.
Palm Avenue hosts a monthly Art Walk. Browse the fine art galleries, jewelers, and restaurants of Palm Avenue while enjoying dancing, live music, and refreshments. This has been one of the traditional ongoing monthly events in Sarasota for many years: Palm Avenue in Downtown Sarasota

Towles Court Artwalk
Third Friday of the Month
6:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m.
All remain open for their enchanting THIRD FRIDAY ART WALKS with free music, events, and refreshments monthly. Towles Court is often referred to as "Sarasota's hidden treasure" because of its natural beauty and prevalence of unique artistry. Towles Court Artist Community is a colorful collection of "Old Florida" bungalows that house galleries and studios and cafes. It is a family-friendly event. Music on Main – Lakewood Ranch
First Friday of each month
6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.
Concerts are free. Each concert features a different style of music and will benefit a local non-profit organization. Main Street at Lakewood Ranch. University Parkway east of I-75 to left on Main Street.

Sarasota Farmers Market
Every Saturday
7:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
One of the traditional weekly, year round events in Sarasota, you'll find everything from fresh produce, food, flowers and plants to arts and crafts, friends and fun, it’s a community happening! Gathering among friends and even bring your dogs to check out the fresh produce and other unique things to browse upon. Main Street and Lemon Avenue in downtown Sarasota.

Venice Farmers Market
Every Saturday
9 a.m. - 12 p.m.
Local produce, plants, flowers, crafts, jewelry, soaps, imported oils, seafood, pastries and much more can be found at the weekly Farmers' Market held in the parking lot of Centennial Park in downtown Venice.

New Artist Weekend Market

The Beach Market at Coquina Beach - Anna Maria Island

Fresh produce, arts and crafts, jewelry, local artists, apparel, pottery, purses, collectibles, health and beauty items, music and more. Enjoy the beautiful white sand beach, relax on the deck overlooking the Gulf and get some great food and beverages at the Coquina Café. Free Admission and parking.

Sarasota Ski-A-Rees Water Ski Show Team
Every Sunday starting September 11, 2016 through November 6, 2016 and shows resume after the first of the year, usually in February through the first Sunday in May.
2 p.m.
Ski-A-Rees Stadium is on Ken Thompson Parkway on City Island next to Mote Marine Aquarium. The Sarasota Ski-A-Rees are a tradition that goes back to October, 1957. Shows are free.

The Siesta Key Beach Drum Circle
Every Sunday Evening - before sunset local time
Another of the year round events in Sarasota, you'll find The drums beating and people dancing every Sunday evening on Siesta Key Beach. It takes place about an hour before sunset, just south of the main pavilion on Siesta Public Beach. Listen for the drums and follow the crowd. Bring your chair or beach blanket and refreshments. Even bring your own drum and play along!
