February 2, 2017: Enjoy the free Brown Bag Concert Series at Phillippi Estate Park every Thursday from noon - 1 p.m. through March 31. February 2, 2017: Check out Ringling Underground with local and regional live music while up and coming artists showcase their works in the museum courtyard. 8 p.m. - 11 p.m.  Admission: $5 - $10. February 2 - 3, 2016: It's live music on Tuesday with the Happy Time Band and Wednesday with the Gentlemen of Jazz. Enjoy the tunes from 3 p.m. - 5 p.m. These free concerts take place in Centennial Park in downtown Venice, FL.

February 3, 2017: Get your toes tapping at "Jazz at Two" featuring Mac Chrupcala. $10 for Sarasota Jazz Club members, $15 for non-members. 2 p.m. - 4 p.m. Universalist Church of Sarasota, 3975 Fruitville Rd, Sarasota. More info at: 941 366-1552.

February 3, 2017: It's the first Friday of the month so that means Music on Main at Lakewood Ranch from 6 p.m. - 9 p.m! Beer, wine and food sales will benefit Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy. Check out the fountain area for a balloon twister, face painting, and Aggie Originals’ caricature art. Bring your chairs, but leave coolers at home. Dogs are welcome, but must be kept on a short leash. Overflow parking is available at the Lakewood Ranch Medical Center. Lakewood Ranch is off University Parkway east of I-75. February 3 - 5, 2017: See historic stamps during the Sarasota Philatelic Club's Sarasota National Stamp Exhibition. This is part of the American Philatelic Society's "World Series of Philately" program. It's the largest annual Florida stamp show and exhibition. They usually offer free appraisals, seminars and door prizes. Free admission and parking. Fri - Sat:10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Sun: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sarasota Municipal Auditorium, 801 N. February 3 - 5, 2017: The Sarasota Shell Club presents its 54th Annual Shell Show! Whether a serious shell lover or seeking a new shell idea, the Sarasota Shell Show is one of the largest shell shows in the world and the perfect place for new creative ideas for you! Beautiful shell crafts and rare shell exhibits are displayed from around the world. Fri: 12:30 p.m. - 5 p.m., Sat: 10 a.m. - 5 p.m., Sun: 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. $5 Adult Admission comes with *FREE* shells. February 4, 2017: Check out the 23rd Annual Sarasota Highland Games and Celtic Festival at the Sarasota County Fairgrounds. Enjoy the sound of bagpipes, drums, Highland dancing and athletic events, Border Collie demonstrations, kid's games and events and all things Scottish. 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. rain or shine. 3000 Ringling Blvd, Sarasota. February 4, 2017: Look up in the sky! Sidewalk Astronomy is being hosted by the Local Group Deep Sky Observers at Celery Fields/SRQ Audubon in Sarasota. Check out the moon and other heavenly bodies for free. Dusk - 10 p.m. (weather permitting).  The Celery Fields are located at 6893 Palmer Blvd, Sarasota. Telescopes are set up in the parking lot at the southeast corner of the Celery Fields. (The intersection of Palmer Blvd. and Center Road.). February 4 - 5, 2017: The 8th Annual Sarasota Masters Art Festival features 70 of the nations' finest artists with their one of a kind works in categories including oil, acrylic and watercolor paintings, sculpture, ceramics, fine jewelry and blown glass. Live entertainment, food vendors too. Free admission. 10 a.m - 5 p.m. South Palm Avenue and surrounding area, downtown Sarasota.

February 4 - 5, 2017: The Venice Area Orchid Society presents their 51st annual show and sale. Thousands of blooming orchids will be for sale and on display in 15 artistically designed exhibits. Orchid art, accessories and supplies will also be for sale. Widely regarded as the most popular orchid show on Florida's west coast. February 4 - 7, 2016: It's the 32nd Annual "Greek Glendi - A Greek Festival" on the grounds of St. Barbara Greek Orthodox Church at 7671 N. Lockwood Ridge Road. Food and festivities abound from traditional Greek food & pastries to live Greek music and dancing. Thursday - Saturday: 11 a.m. - 9 p.m, Sunday: Noon - 8 p.m. Admission is $4, kids under 12 free. February 5, 2017: Run for a song and rock your way along! The 3rd Annual  Sarasota Music Half Marathon will be a 13.1 mile course that will start and end at the Van Wezel Performing Arts Center parking lot and will wind its way through Selby Gardens, up Orange Avenue into the Cherokee Park neighborhood, back through Selby Gardens and finish back at Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall. There will also be 20 bands along with cheerleaders, lawn parties, Girl Scout cookies, crowds and energy.  Starts at 6:30 a.m.  Click here for more details and registration.

February 5 - 6, 2016: It's the 4th Annual Shake, Rattle and Soul Fest featuring 4-time world champion Elvis impersonator Dwight Icenhower. There will also be tribute performances for other music legends: Buddy Holly, Rod Stewart, James Brown, Roy Orbison,  Little Richard; Robert Washington as James Brown and Steve Bobbitt as Rod Stewart. February 5 - 6, 2016: It's both the Opening and Closing events for the 2nd Annual Bradenton Riverboat Regatta. Music, food, drinks and fun to kick off and close the annual Regatta. 5 p.m. - midnight both nights. Streets close to traffic at 3:30 p.m. Free admission. 12th Street West from Manatee to 3rd Avenue, downtown Bradenton.

February. 5 - 7, 2016: It's the Mardi Gras, Music and Food Festival to benefit Big Cat Habitat and Gulf Coast Sanctuary. DJs, live bands, a huge big top where you'll find many of your favorite adult beverages including Bourbon Street Hurricanes. Enjoy a real Crawfish boil plus some of your favorite New Orleans style delicacies. Dance to Zydeco, Creo, Dixie Land, and Jazz. Join the party in full party costume, come as you are, or gather your beads, masks, and feather boas at the party! Family activities include carnival rides, games, face painting, cotton candy and snow cones. Entrance to festival ground areas including arts and crafts, merchant tents, family fun zone and Sarasota’s favorite restaurants, food trucks, and concessionaires are totally free. February 6, 2016: Water sports is the order of the day at the 2nd annual  Bradenton Riverwalk Regatta. A free event featuring Formula 2 powerboat racing, bands and fireworks. The daylong fest will feature concerts, a food fest, a kids zone, fireworks and more. 8 a.m. - 10 p.m. Free admission. Downtown Bradenton's Riverwalk and in Palmetto. February 6, 2016: Young and old are invited to Sarasota Modern Quilt Guild's "Airing of the Quilts: Quilt Show and Sale." See not only modern quilts made by talented members of the guild but there will also be quilts and other boutique items for sale along with food trucks offering tasty treats.  Admission is free! 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Maxine Barritt Park (near Sharkey's and the pier) at 1800 S. Harbor Drive, Venice.

Sarasota Pet Fest

February 6, 2016: It's the 6th annual Celebration of Pets Fest at the Sarasota Fairgrounds. There will be pet adoptions; cats/kittens – puppies/dogs. Fun for the whole family including a wiener dog derby and live music. Free parking, admission $5 for adults. Kids 6 & under & leashed pets are free and welcome. February 6, 2016: Once again it's ReptiDay! It's the Sarasota Reptile and Exotic Animal Show. The event features vendors offering reptile pets, supplies and other related merchandise plus live animal seminars, raffles for prizes and more. 10 a.m - 5 p.m. (VIP early entry 9:30 a.m.).  General admission: $10 (Adult), $5 (Ages 5-12), ages 4 and under are free. February 6, 2016: It's the 9th annual Grand Ovation at Lakewood Ranch featuring live entertainment from top performance groups including local school groups to professional musicians, dance groups, chorus groups, drama groups and more. Billed as a mix of street festival and concert hall entertainment. 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. Free admission and parking. (No coolers) Main Street at Lakewood Ranch.

February 6 - 7, 2016: There  will be a Regatta Opening and Closing "Main Street Live" Party on Old Main Street between Manatee and 3rd avenues west. The events will be similar to a regular Main Street Live with music, vendors and food and beverages for sale. There is no charge to attend this event. February 6 - 7, 2016: Enjoy the 16th Annual Plantation Festival at Gamble Mansion and Plantation. Enjoy an arts and crafts show, a school art competition, free tours of the Gamble Mansion and the Patten House, food and beverage vendors and more. 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Free admission and $1 donation for parking. Directions: Exit 224 from I-75. Head west for 1 mile on US 301. Look for the Landmark white picket fence and turn right into the main park entrance. 3708 Patten Avenue, Ellenton.

February 7, 2016: Enjoy Sarasota's own Ski-A-Rees Water Ski Team and their 1st Sunday afternoon show of the new season at 2 p.m. at Ski-A-Ree Stadium. This free show takes place at 1602 Ken Thompson Parkway (near/behind Mote Marine Aquarium on the water.) 2 p.m. 388-1666.

February 9, 2016: It's the 13th Annual Anna Maria Jazz Fest with the Gulf Drive Band and Koko Ray Hansen. Featured will be jazz standards of the  past 70 years! Proceeds benefit the Anna Maria Island Concert Chorus and Orchestra. $10 advance, $15 at the door.  3 p.m. - 5 p.m. Sandbar Restaurant Pavilion, 100 Spring Ave, Anna Maria Island.

February 9 - 20, 2017: The Florida State Fair takes place and gates open daily at 9 a.m. The fairgrounds are at 4800 U.S. 301N. Tampa. You can also get there via I-75. (From I-75 N, take exit 261 to merge onto I-4 W toward Tampa. Take exit 7 to merge onto FL-600 W/E Hillsborough Ave/US-92 W toward US-301 W/Busch Gardens. Take the ramp to Riverview, Merge onto FL-41 S/FL-43 S/US-301 S. Continue to follow FL-43 S/US-301 S - fairgrounds will be on the right.) I've gotten there in about 75 minutes from Sarasota. February 11, 2017: It's the Anna Maria Island Privateers Thieves Market, a Flea Market only Pirate Style! 100’s of Vendors, Treasures to be Found, Food to be Eaten, Fresh Veggies to be bought. Custom Handmade Jewelry to Sharks Teeth on a String, T-Shirts to Bikini’s, Hamburgers & Hot Dogs, Golf paraphernalia to Fishing Lures, Nuts to Bolts, Antiques to Knock offs, BBQ Brisket to Hot Links. February 11, 2017: In shape? Join hundreds of other runners for the Scrub Jay 5K & 10K run at Oscar Scherer State Park. The 5K run starts at 8:00 a.m. The 10K run starts at 8:15 a.m., the  Park opens at 6:30 a.m. Over 600 runners participated last year! Oscar Scherer State Park is located in Osprey, south of Sarasota, north of Venice, at 1843 S. Tamiami Trail. February 11 - 12, 2017: The 3rd Annual Maxine Barritt Park Valentine's Arts and Crafts Show is held from 10 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. This festival on my February Sarasota Events Calendar, features exhibitors selling hand made arts and crafts. February 11 - 12, 2017: Enjoy the 29th Annual Downtown Sarasota Festival of the Arts. Featured are some of the best artists in the nation displaying life-size sculptures, spectacular paintings, one-of-a-kind jewels, photography and more. It's ranked as one of the Top 100 Fine Arts Shows in the country by a national artists magazine.10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Main Street in Downtown Sarasota. February 11 - 12, 2017: Check out the Vintage and Collectibles Fair with lots of exhibitors with everything from antiques, books, collectibles, linens and more. February 11 - 13, 2016: Looking for sea shells? Check out the Sarasota Shell Club Shell Show (try saying that three times, fast!). See exotic and rare shells, shell crafts, programs for kids and more. $5, under 12 free. February 11 - 14, 2016: The Wings of Freedom Tour lands at Venice Municipal Airport. On display and available for walk through tours will be the B-17 Flying Fortress, a B-24 Liberator and a P-51 Mustang. Walk through tours are $12 adults, $6 for 12 and under. WWII vets get into the ground tours free. Walk through tour times are: Thurs: 2:00 p.m. - 4:30 p.m., Fri: 9 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Sat: 9 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Sun: 9 a.m. -  12 p.m. Flight Experiences take place before and after tours. February 12, 2016: It's Free Music Friday Night with live music at Centennial Park. The music of Lady Katt & The Howlin' Doggs (Blues) takes place at the Gazebo in the park. Free. 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. Downtown Venice. Bring your folding chairs or blankets.

February 12 - 13, 2016: The Manatee Patchworkers Quilt Guild are hosting their second presentation of the Suncoast Quilt Expo. The theme, "A Stitch in Time", celebrates the time honored traditions of quilt making. Manatee Patchworkers have been quilting in Manatee County for 32 years and are proud to present a quilt expo with over 180 quilts, challenge quilts, a basket promenade, 25 vendors, quilts for sale, an appraiser on-site for verbal and/or written appraisals, bed turning and an opportunity quilt designed and made by guild members.  In addition, displays of quilting history will be highlighted. February 12 - 28, 2016: The annual Circus Sarasota Winter Performance is taking place with dazzling entertainment under the Big Top. Previous headliners have included comic daredevil, Sarasota's own international star, Bello Nock and Sarasota's Nik Wallenda. Once again this year's headliner is Sarasota's own Bello Nock, "The World's Greatest Comic Daredevil!" The Big Top is moving to a new location for this season: Big Top - SE corner of University Town Center Mall, 140 University Town Center Drive, Sarasota. February 13, 2016: There's a Dolce Notte a Venezia, or "A Sweet Night In Venice" - A Valentine Celebration put on by the Italian American Club of Venice featuring a social, dinner and dessert, enjoy dancing and live music by The Cruiser and more. February 13 - 14, 2016: Check out the Holmes Beach Valentine Arts and Crafts Festival featuring handmade jewelry, ceramics, fiber art, paintings, stained glass, photography, live music, food and more. February 13 - 14, 2016: It's the 34th Annual Cortez Commercial Fishing Festival and it is held in the historic fishing village of Cortez, Florida. It celebrates the rich heritage of the area's commercial fishing industry and features two days of marine life exhibits, seafood, events for kids and live music. It runs from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. East end of town adjacent to the Florida Maritime Museum located at 4425 119th St. West, Cortez, Florida. Admission is $3, children under 12 are free. Offsite parking is available at G.T. Bray Park, 5502 33rd Ave. Dr. W., with shuttles to Cortez for $2.50 round trip. February 13 – 15, 2016: The inaugural Presidents' Day Showcase field hockey tournament will be held showcasing athletes in a competitive club tournament. Two games per day for each team for a total of six games per team and more than 350 games over the three-day period. It's one of the two largest hockey events of the year. More than 120 U-16 and U-19 teams from all over the country will compete. There will be 87 colleges in attendance including Boston, Ohio State, Princeton, Rutgers, Yale universities, the University of Connecticut, University of Michigan and more. February 14, 2016: Yummy! The 22nd Anniversary Jewish Food Festival & Flea Market takes place with all kinds of delights from corned beef and pastrami sandwiches to stuffed cabbage and more plus music through out the day. 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Free admission and parking. February 14, 2017: It may not be quite the Tennessee Bird Walk but the Siesta Key Village Valentine Stroll offers live music throughout the village and free candy kisses from the merchants. Participating merchants will have pink and red balloons outside their businesses. Free admission. 5 p.m. - 8 p.m. Siesta Key Village. There will be pedicab and golf cart cab services from the Siesta Public Beach parking lot to the Village. More information here.

February 14, 2016: Celebrate Valentines Day at the Beach with love and romance: Renew your wedding vows and say “I Do” all over again on Siesta Key Beach in a non-denominational service. Couples of all ages and length of marriage gather for the annual group renewal of vows at the Siesta Beach Pavilion, presided over by a Sarasota judicial magistrate. Event begins at 5 p.m. but couples are encouraged to arrive as early as 4:30 p.m. to check in. It’s a tradition that dates to 1989 and it’s open to all, but you must pre-register by Feb. 10. Call 941-861-5000. There's a $10 per couple fee and includes a certificate, commemorative gift, flower, music on the beach and light refreshments. Event begins at 5 p.m., the renewal service starts at 6 p.m. Siesta Beach is located at 948 Beach Road, Siesta Key.

February 14, 2016: Now you may say "I Do" all over again in a new second location for Valentine's Day. This event, originally only at Siesta Beach, has grown so popular over the years that a second location has been added at Venice  Beach, with one of the most beautiful views of the Gulf of Mexico in the area, in Venice, presided over by a magistrate. As in the event at Siesta Beach, you must pre-register by Feb. 10. Call 941-861-5000. There's a $10 per couple fee and includes a certificate, a commemorative gift, flower, music on the beach and light refreshments. February 20, 2016: Batter up! The Orioles invite fans to celebrate the start of Spring Training at Sarasota SpringFest, a free, family-friendly event for fans of all ages. February 22, 2016: The Orioles will hold the Sixth Annual OriolesREACH Birdland Golf Classic at The Founders Club to benefit the Miracle League of Manasota, an organization dedicated to providing an opportunity for every person to play baseball, regardless of their ability. Registration is now open for golfers and corporate partners.  The event begins with registration at 11:00 a.m., with a shotgun start set for 12:30 p.m. Lunch will be served on the course during play. The classic will feature a silent auction and the chance to play a round with current and former Orioles players and coaches. Following the event, The Founders Club will host a dinner for participating golfers as well as Orioles players and coaches. February 25 - 26, 2017: Row, Row, Row! It's the 8th Annual Sarasota Invitational Regatta rowing competition and the start of the Sprint Season. There will be over 1,500 rowers in Youth, Masters and Adaptive Rowing from the southeastern United States who will compete in the two day event. Racing is from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. February 27, 2016: The Lakewood Ranch 10th Annual Youth Fishing Tournament happens at Lake Uihlein (behind Town Hall) from 9 a.m. - Noon. This "catch and release" fishing tournament is for those aged 5 - 15. One rod per angler. Awards will be presented for each group.
