January 5 - 6, 2017: It's the last two evenings of the annual seasonal festival Holly Days and Mangrove Lights at Historic Spanish Point with their decorated homestead buildings and lighted gardens in a beautiful 30 acre setting. Miniature white lights on the trees and in the mangroves lends a magical holiday ambiance. The museum will be open until 8 p.m. for you to enjoy the lighted pathways and festive music. January 14, 2017: Another of our fun January Sarasota Events is The 14th Annual Ringling Bridge Run starting at 7:30 a.m. from the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall, 777 N. Tamiami Trail. One of the most popular yearly Sarasota events, the run draws thousands each year. Entry: Adults $25, Kids $15, Family $60. January 14, 2017: It's a celebration of circus history and heritage as The 30th Annual Circus Ring of Fame induction ceremony takes place at 2 p.m. in St. Armand's Circle Park. There (usually) will be a live concert performance of circus music prior to the induction ceremony. January 15, 2017: Put on your running shoes and Run the Ranch. Get into and take part in the Sun Coast Half Marathon. The race will span 13.1 miles and the route will be from Main Street at Lakewood Ranch and through the Country Club West communities of Lakewood Ranch. January 17 This event is moving to April 2 in 2017. It's the 13th annual Capt John Breuggeman Memorial Grouper Tournament. If you don't mind a short drive the downtown streets of Tampa host the Annual Gasparilla Festival from 9 a.m. - 9 p.m. The Gasparilla Parade Of Pirates is from 2 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. and begins at Bay to Bay Boulevard and Bayshore Boulevard. It continues along Bayshore Boulevard to Brorein Street, turns east on Brorein Street, then north on Ashley Drive. The parade ends at Cass Street & Ashley Drive. January 29, 2017: Here's a blast from the past for historic and vintage car enthusiasts: More than 1,500 Antique vehicles will be on display at the 48th Annual Deveraux-Kaiser Collector Car Meet. January 29, 2017: Can you carry a tune? The Pittsburgh Pirates will hold National Anthem auditions, open to anyone interested in singing The Star Spangled Banner prior to a Pirates Spring Training game. Prospective singers must feel comfortable performing in front of audiences of 7,000 people or more. Auditions will be conducted a cappella and must be no longer than two minutes in length. Contestants that wish to sing the Canadian National Anthem before the Pirates games against Toronto on Thursday, March 19 or the national anthem of the Dominican Republic for the game on Wednesday, March 8 are welcome to audition using that selection. There is no pre-registration for auditions. Prospective singers will perform in the order they sign up on the day of auditions. Registration will close at noon. National Anthem auditions will be conducted for vocalists only.
