January 3, 2018: It's a free concert with live music on Wednesday with the Gentlemen of Jazz. Enjoy the tunes from 3 p.m. - 5 p.m. These free concerts take place in Centennial Park's Gazebo in downtown Venice, FL.

January 4, 2018: It's your chance to enjoy "Deck the Halls at Ca' d'Zan" on the grounds of the Ringling Museum. The mansion is all decked out for the holiday season including a 10' tall tree during extended hours. 5 p.m. - 8 p.m. Tickets: $15 Free for members and included with "Art After Five" admission. 5401 Bay Shore Road, Sarasota. 941-358-3180. January 5, 2018: Get your toes tapping at "Jazz at Two" featuring Skip's Dixie Mix playing some of your Dixieland favorites with that New Orleans swing. January 5, 2018: Dance along to the Music on Main at Lakewood Ranch from 6 p.m.- 9 p.m. Beer, wine and food. Check out the fountain area for a balloon twister, face painting and other fun. Bring your chairs, but leave coolers at home. Dogs are welcome, but must be kept on a short leash. Overflow parking is available at the Lakewood Ranch Medical Center. January 6 - 7, 2018: Enjoy the 60th Annual Orchids Expo Show and Sale put on by the Sarasota Orchid Society. "For the Love of Orchids,” is the theme for 2018's celebration and the show will spotlight thousands of award-winning orchids in the displays created by orchid vendors and local orchid societies. Interact with growers, attend seminars, purchase orchids or just enjoy the beauty of orchids! Sat: 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., Sun: 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Adults $5, under 8 free. January 6 - 7, 2018: The Venice Antiques Show features over 50 national and regional exhibitors. Featured: Art Glass, Pottery, Fine Art, Jewelry, Asian and  European Antiques, Americana and much more. $7. Saturday 10 a.m. - 5 p.m., Sunday 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Venice Community Center, 326 S Nokomis Ave, Venice.

January 6 - 7, 2018: It's the 11th Annual Coquina Beach "Winter Fest Arts & Crafts Show." On Anna Maria Island, this arts and crafts show takes place right on Gulf Of Mexico Drive. 10 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. daily. Featuring artists and crafts people from all over. Location: in the town of Bradenton Beach just north of the Longboat Key Pass Bridge. Free admission and parking. Look for the crowds!

January 7, 2017: Honk Honk! It's big time fun for kids where they can "Touch a Truck" live and in person! Street sweepers, fire engines, dump trucks and monster trucks. January 9 - 10, 2018: It's a free concert with live music on Tuesday with the Happy Time Band and Wednesday with the Gentlemen of Jazz. Enjoy the tunes from 3 p.m. - 5 p.m. These free concerts take place in Centennial Park's Gazebo in downtown Venice, FL.

January 10, 2018: Party inside Selby Public Library! Friends of Selby Public Library will sponsor the 8th Annual "Looking into the Crystal Ball" Fundraiser. Featured will be specialties from local restaurants, continuous entertainment including specialty acts, singers, musicians, and other quality performances plus intuitive readers, wellness, art and author exhibits. Cash bar. All proceeds support Selby Library’s youth programs. 6 p.m. - 9 p.m. Tickets are an inclusive low price- $30 advance at Selby Friends Bookstore, $40 door. January 11 - 14, 2018: Check out the 25th Annual Sarasota Dollhouse Miniatures Festival now called the 2018 Venice Fun in the Sun Miniature Show. Dolls, teddy bears and more are being featured at the new location along with two days of workshops January 11 - 13. Show preview Saturday January 13 ($18)  5 p.m. - 8 p.m. The show is Sunday January 14 10 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Adults $7, under 12 $3. January 11 - 21, 2018: It's not peanuts and crackerjack, but cotton candy and elephant ears at The Annual Manatee County Fair taking place at the Manatee County Fairgrounds, 1303 17th St. W., Palmetto. General admission: $7 for ages 13 and older, $6 for seniors 55 and older, $5 for kids 6-12, free for ages 5 and under. Click for more about the Manatee County Fair. January 12, 2018: It's Free Music Friday Night with live music opening the year at Centennial Park's 2018 Friday Night Concerts featuring David Smash. The music takes place at the Gazebo in the park. Free. 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. Downtown Venice. Bring your folding chairs or blankets.

January 12 - 14, 2018: There's a Gem, Jewelry and Bead Show featuring  exhibitors with a wide variety of the finest gem, jewelry and bead collections and more. Adults $5. 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Sarasota Municipal Auditorium, 801 N. Tamiami Trail.

January 13, 2018: It's the Anna Maria Island Privateers Thieves Market, a Flea Market only Pirate Style! 100’s of Vendors, Treasures to be Found, Food to be Eaten, Fresh Veggies to be bought. Custom Handmade Jewelry to Sharks Teeth on a String, T-Shirts to Bikini’s, Hamburgers & Hot Dogs, Golf paraphernalia to Fishing Lures, Nuts to Bolts, Antiques to Knock offs, BBQ Brisket to Hot Links. January 13, 2018: Another of our fun January Sarasota Events is The 15th Annual Ringling Bridge Run starting at 7:30 a.m. from the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall, 777 N. Tamiami Trail. One of the most popular yearly Sarasota events, the run draws thousands each year. Various entry fees. Sarasota Ring of Fame induction

January 13, 2018: It's a celebration of circus history and heritage as The 31st Annual Circus Ring of Fame induction ceremony takes place at 2 p.m. in St. Armand's Circle Park. There (usually) will be a live concert performance of circus music with a 60 piece band prior to the induction ceremony at 2 p.m.. Pre-ceremony festivities begin at 1:15 p.m. Here's more on the ceremonies and the Circus Ring of Fame.

January 13, 2017: Enjoy the Full Moon Concert at Myakka River State Park featuring the Jonnie Morgan Band, described as a jam band with a singer-songwriter twist. Bring a chair and picnic to enjoy the music by a fire pit. Park entrance fee waived for concert upon arrival after 5 p.m. Come early to get your spot. 7:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. Cost: $20.00 ($15.00 for Friends of Myakka State Park members) Click here for more info. January 13 - 14, 2018: It's the 22nd Annual Anna Maria Island-Fest Arts & Crafts Show. On Anna Maria Island, this arts and crafts show is right at City Hall in the heart of Anna Maria/Holmes Beach. Featuring artists and crafts people from all over. 10 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. daily. Free admission and parking. Look for the crowds!  5801 Marina Drive, Holmes Beach, FL Pass Bridge.

January 13 - 14, 2018: Enjoy the 6th Annual Sarasota Winter Fine Arts Festival and marvel at unique creations by 120 of America’s top artisans in the mediums of painting, jewelry, sculpting, photography, woodworking, ceramics, glass, fiber art, mixed-media and more. Enjoy the rare opportunity to meet and interact with the talented creators of the artwork.  Discover how each came to their art form and how they are inspired.  Free admission. January 19 - 21, 2018: Take in the Sarasota Native American Indian Festival and experience the culture and artistry of the of the Native American people. Find authentic, handmade, one-of-a-kind fine arts and crafts, paintings, pottery, jewelry, sculpture, bead work and leather work along with story telling, dance and Native American food. The festival will continue to be a tribute to the extraordinary life of artist Rex A. Begaye, its founder. January 19 - 21, 2018: The Venice-Nokomis Rotary's 26th Annual Fine Art & Craft Festival & Rotary Concert Bandana Bash features talented artists and craftspeople and music.  Friday night, January 19, 2018,  it's the Rotary Bandana Bash, 3 hours of Rock & Roll as it should be played. The gate opens at 5:30 with beer, wine, soft drinks, and food from local vendors and restaurants. Music is from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Venice Airport Festival Grounds, $10.00 entrance fee per person. The Fine Art & Craft Festival is Saturday and Sunday. There's also free entertainment throughout the weekend plus children's play area,  It all takes place at the Venice Airport Festival Grounds. January 20, 2018: You're invited to take part in ”The 5k Zombie Run," family friendly and fun for all ages and participants of all abilities. Click here for more on the Zombie Run. The choice is yours: Be a Runner (human) and run from the Zombies or be a Zombie and pull the runner's flags as they run through your "Zombie Zone." The runs are purely for fun and neither run is timed or competitive in any way. There will be t-shirts & finisher medals for everyone plus an after race party with music, food, vendors and a family fun atmosphere. Registration dead line and entry fee. January 27, 2018: Check out the 24th Annual Sarasota Highland Games and Celtic Festival at the Sarasota County Fairgrounds. Here's more info on the event. January 27, 2018: You're invited to take in Sarasota County's Fire Fest 2018. Fire Fest provides a first-hand look at how prescribed burns protect our communities and property from wildfires as well as maintain Florida’s natural ecosystems for present and future generations.There will be prescribed burn demos, helicopter water drops, games for kids, guided nature walks, free food and more! 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. (rain or shine). January 27, 2018: Aarrgg! If you don't mind a short drive the downtown streets of Tampa host the Annual Gasparilla Festival from 9 a.m. - 9 p.m. The Gasparilla Parade Of Pirates is from 2 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. and begins at Bay to Bay Boulevard and Bayshore Boulevard. It continues along Bayshore Boulevard to Brorein Street, turns east on Brorein Street, then north on Ashley Drive. The parade ends at Cass Street & Ashley Drive. The Pirate Fest will feature stages along the Riverwalk in downtown Tampa with live entertainment, pre and post parade, in Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park (Ashley and Twiggs), MacDill Park (Ashley and Whiting), The Sail Pavilion at the Tampa Convention Center, and Fergs Tampa (Jefferson and Channelside Drive). January 27, 2018: Check out some heavenly bodies during Sidewalk Astronomy courtesy of the local group of Deep Sky Observers. Telescopes will be up and available for public viewing from sunset. - 10 p.m./10:30 p.m. (weather permitting). At Riverview High School, 1 Ram Way, Sarasota, FL

January 27 - 28, 2018: Check out the 15th annual St. Armand's Circle’s Art Festival for fun and creativity at new levels. Usually held on the last weekend in January on St. Armand’s Circle in Circle Park, there are over 175 artists and craftsmen displaying their works. 10 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Free. January 27 - 28, 2018: Billed as the Sarasolo Festival, this two weekend event will feature local performers featuring a variety of performances from improv to musical, story telling to dance, plays, cabaret, stand up and more featuring a selection of some of our best local performers. January 27 - 28, 2018: It's the 11th Annual Downtown Venice Craft Festival featuring a blend of contemporary craft, all handmade in the U.S. 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. This is one of the very popular fests on my Sarasota Calendar of Events and it takes place on Miami Avenue in downtown Venice, FL. January 27 - 28, 2018: It's the 6th Annual Shake, Rattle and Soul Fest featuring world champion Elvis impersonator Dwight Icenhower. There will also be tribute performances for other music legends: Rod Stewart, James Brown, Roy Orbison, Tom Jones, and Little Richard. Deveraux-Kaiser Collector Car Meet

January 28, 2018: Here's a blast from the past for historic and vintage car enthusiasts: More than 1,500 Antique vehicles will be on display at the 48th Annual Deveraux-Kaiser Collector Car Meet. The show is free and features vehicles vintage 1991 and older. Spectator parking: $2. 8 a.m. - 3 p.m. 12205 on Rangeland Parkway in Lakewood Ranch. January 29, 2017: Can you carry a tune? The Pittsburgh Pirates will hold National Anthem auditions, open to anyone interested in singing The Star Spangled Banner prior to a Pirates Spring Training game. Prospective singers must feel comfortable performing in front of audiences of 7,000 people or more. Auditions will be conducted a cappella and must be no longer than two minutes in length. Contestants that wish to sing the Canadian National Anthem before the Pirates games against Toronto on Thursday, March 19 or the national anthem of the Dominican Republic for the game on Wednesday, March 8 are welcome to audition using that selection. There is no pre-registration for auditions. Prospective singers will perform in the order they sign up on the day of auditions. Registration will close at noon. National Anthem auditions will be conducted for vocalists only. Pirates employees will supervise the auditions and determine which performers to invite to fill open spots in the Spring Training schedule. 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.  McKechnie Field, 1611 9th Street W, Bradenton. January 30 - 31, 2018: It's a free concert with live music on Tuesday with the Happy Time Band and Wednesday with the Gentlemen of Jazz. Enjoy the tunes from 3 p.m. - 5 p.m. These free concerts take place in Centennial Park's Gazebo in downtown Venice, FL.
