October 1, 2017: Enjoy the final day of the 2017 World Rowing Championships at Nathan Benderson Park. This is the first time in more than 20 years that these championship racing events have been held in the USA! October 1 , 2017: German food & beer and live music  from 3 German Bands are all part of The Sun Coast Oktoberfest presented by Geier’s Sausage Kitchen. Plus participate in the Chicken Dance competition, Stein Hoisting Competition and more are all part of the fun. Get dressed up in your Dirndl or Lederhosen for a free gift. This is the perfect opportunity to experience a little bit of Germany here in Sarasota, all under a big tent. So it's rain or shine! October 2, 2016: It's the Old Miakka Hootenanny which celebrates the 102nd anniversary of the old schoolhouse. Live music, food, living history, craft vendors, Civil War re-enactors, home made butter, pottery, tour the old school house, family oriented activities and more including bbq, food and drinks available. October 4, 2017: The Phillippi Farmhouse Market is back and it features locally grown fruits and vegetables, including local USDA certified organic produce and hydroponics. There will be plants, herbs, hanging baskets, shrubs and cut flowers for sale along with a wide variety of locally baked goods, delicious barbeque, plenty of food and beverage vendors, arts and crafts, soaps and candles and always live music. 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. every Wednesday, October through April. 5500 S. October 5, 2017: Get groovin in the courtyard at Ringling Underground where you can enjoy live music in the Museum of Art Courtyard. An eclectic mix of local and regional live music is featured in the series. Plus check out up and coming artists with select galleries open until 11 p.m. 8 p.m. - 11 p.m.  Admission: $15. October 6, 2017: Rules, rules, rules. So many rules. An evening with Stephen King and Owen King, co-authors of Sleeping Beauties: A Novel. Stephen and Owen King will discuss their new novel followed by a Q&A with the audience. Price of admission is one copy of Sleeping Beauties: A Novel, ($32.50 + tax). Due to capacity limits, each person is allowed to purchase a maximum of one  book and wristband. Only one minor may accompany wristband holder. Reservations for the event can be made via email at CRM2737@bn.com beginning Aug. 25, no earlier than 8 a.m. (EST). Please include King Event Reservation Request in the subject line of your email. October 6, 2017: Lakewood Ranch presents Music on Main the first Friday of each month from 6 p.m.- 9 p.m. Live music, beer, wine and food available. Check out Goodbye Eddie and their Classic Rock sounds. Bring your chairs, but leave coolers at home. Dogs are welcome, but must be kept on a short leash. October 14, 2017: Sun Coast Jaguar Club of Florida is hosting the 32nd Annual Concours d'Elegance on St. Armands Key. This is a JCNA Sanctioned event and is open to all vintage thru modern Jaguar cars. Cars may be entered in non-judged or judged classes, $35-$55. October 15, 2017: It's the Annual InStride Community Barbeque. In addition to delicious BBQ and other fixings at the ranch there will be music, games, pumpkin painting, bounce houses, bake sale, beer and lots of delicious barbeque for the whole family! All proceeds benefit the InStride Rider Scholarship Fund. Purpose: Partnering with horses, they challenge individuals with special needs to reach their fullest potential. Funny Bed Races, a Parade and the Miss Sun Fiesta Pageant culminating in a young woman being selected to win a $1,000 scholarship. Also: arts and crafts, food and drink, live music and entertainment and more throughout the 3-day weekend event. October 21, 2017: The 4th Annual ‘Ghost 5K Run’ and Poker Walk is taking place on Old Main Street in Bradenton. The family fun filled Halloween oriented healthy multi event features a 5K competitive run, a 5K chip timed run for Doggies with their owners, a one mile fitness walk, and the Children’s Monster races for children of all ages. In addition there is a Poker Walk for the 5Kers and casual walkers to attend the Main Street local taverns to obtain playing cards with the top hands winning prizes. Registration starts at 9:00 a.m. on Old Main Street for all events. The 5K Doggie Run follows the competitive 5K runner event and features doggie watering holes on the way and awards to the top doggie finishers. Both events finish on Old Main Street to a great after party celebration. Awards are for top finishers and category winners in the 5K run plus boys and girls in the 3-4; 5-6; 7-9; and 10 to 12 age groups. October 21 - 22, 2017: The Arcadia All-Florida Championship Rodeo is hosting the 4th Annual Arcadia Fall PRCA Rodeo featuring the baddest bulls and broncs this side of the Mississippi along with all of the timed events everyone knows and loves! Gates open at 11:00 a.m. The Arcadia Rodeo Shootout Gang will perform at 1:00 p.m. The Rodeo action begins at 2:00 p.m. Rain or Shine! October 22, 2017: It's the 8th Annual Tour de North Port Bicycle Ride. This year's theme is "It's The Green Pumpkin!" It's not a race but four different courses in and around the streets of North Port. There are 15, 35, and 65 mile routes. $40 pre-registration will get you breakfast and a full lunch at the ride's end. And there will also be homemade snacks and desserts. Begins/Ends at The Imagine School (Upper Campus) located at 2757 Sycamore Street (near the intersection of Toledo Blade and Gateway Blvd.) in North Port. October 23, 2017: One more Oktoberfest with with fun contests, games and prizes. Put on your Lederhosen and bring your stein. Best Dressed Contest - Bring out your Dirndl or Lederhosen for a men's and woman's best dressed competition. Winners will be chosen at 3:30 p.m. and will receive a $50 bar tab. Beer, food, music, Stein race and Stein holding games and more. $4 pints of German beer all day. No cover charge. 11 a.m. - close. J. Dub's Brewing Company & Tap Room, 1215 Mango Ave., Sarasota.

October 25, 2017: The Humane Society of Sarasota County hosts its 20th Annual Howl-O-Ween Pet Costume Contest. Pets of all shapes and sizes dressed in their favorite “Howl-O-Ween” costumes are welcome. Prizes will be awarded for such categories as "Cutest Costume, Funniest Costume, Spookiest Costume, Most Creative Costume, Best Costumed Rescue and Best Pet/Owner Look-a-like Costume." Entry fee: $15 donation per pet. Humans are free! Lots of free parking. All proceeds will benefit the Humane Society of Sarasota County. Pet Costume Contest pre-registration is required. October 27, 2017: Get your toes tapping at "Jazz at Two" featuring South Florida Jazz Hall of Fame pianist, Billy Marcus with music from the movies, the American songbook and jazz standards. $10 for Sarasota Jazz Club members, $15 for non-members. 2 p.m. - 4 p.m. Universalist Church of Sarasota, 3975 Fruitville Rd, Sarasota. October 27 - 28, 2017: It's "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow," A Theatre in the Filed Experience! Ichabod Crane, Katrina Van Tassel and of course the Headless Horsemen come to life in this immersive outdoor theatre experience held at The Sarasota Polo Grounds. What will be the outcome when Ichabod confronts his desires, fears, and of course, the Headless Horseman of Sleepy Hollow? A Fun family event! 6 p.m. Tickets: $12 - $50. October 27 - 29, 2017: Check out the Coin Show and Sale put on by the Sarasota-Manatee Coin Clubs. Learn the history behind the coins that also reflects the history of the country. October 27 - 29, 2017: Cast a spell of sights, sounds and tastes of fall at The Manasota Pumpkin Festival at DeSoto Square Mall, sure to be entertaining and exciting for all ages. A Sarasota and Bradenton area tradition, festival Goers will be amazed by the new performances, pumpkin patch and maze, pie eating contests, free shows, family midway amusement area complete with rides, games, inflatable land, petting zoo and pony rides along with delectable food, craft vendors and a beer garden. October 28, 2017: Help Keep Sarasota County Beautiful on the Annual International Coastal Clean Up Day.  More info by clicking here. Locations include: Sarasota, Venice, Laurel, Nokomis, North Port and Englewood. Due to the large number of participants this event usually draws volunteers are asked to only sign-up for one day. The first 1,200 volunteers who register will have FIRST OPTION ACCESS* to this year's commemorative t-shirts and all volunteers will receive trash bags and gloves. 8 a.m. - 11 a.m. 

October 28, 2017: Celebrating its 21st Anniversary, the Giving Hunger the Blues & Jazz on the Bay Music Festival takes place again on the outdoor grounds of the Van Wezel Auditorium. With Sarasota Bay as a backdrop there will be live music including Rythym & Blues featuring headliner John Nemeth and Albert Castiglia and a new addition this year, the Jazz Stage, which will feature 8 local and regional performers. Live music all day! A selection of the area’s most delicious restaurants and vendors add to the fun. Proceeds benefit the the Mayor's Feed the Hungry Program and the Generoso Foundation to feed, protect and nurture children and families in our community. Click here for more info. October 28, 2017: The Main Street Live Downtown Street Party kicks off its new season with a Halloween Party and it takes place on Historic Old Main Street in Bradenton from 5 p.m. - 12  a.m. with live music throughout the night. The event also features food and drink vendors and arts and crafts. Music ends at 10 p.m. but Old Main Street will remain closed until midnight. No charge to attend. October 28, 2017: Check out some heavenly bodies during Sidewalk Astronomy courtesy of the local group of Deep Sky Observers. Telescopes will be up and available for public viewing from sunset. - 10 p.m. - 10:30 p.m. (weather permitting). Celery Fields / Sarasota Audubon. The Celery Fields, 6893 Palmer Blvd, Sarasota, FL. Telescopes are set up in the parking lot at the southeast corner of the Celery Fields. (The intersection of Palmer Blvd. and Center Road.). Visitor parking is available in the parking lot on the west side of the Audubon Society building.

October 28 - 29, 2017: Get into the 26th Annual Hunsader Farms Pumpkin Festival featuring fun for all including craft booths, live music, pioneer trades village, scarecrow displays, pumpkin games for charity, hayrides, pony rides, petting zoo, frog jumping championships, kids train ride, fresh roasted sweet corn, rock climbing wall, face painting and more. 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Admission $10, kids 12 & under free, parking $5. October 28 - 29, 2017: The 29th Annual Fruitville Grove Pumpkin Fest features hay rides, pony rides, pumpkin painting, face painting, mini train rides, a petting zoo and more. Lots of Halloween decorations for sale, too, from scarecrows to hay bales. Food available for purchase. 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Free admission and parking. October 28 - 29, 2017: are the dates for this year's 23rd Annual Downtown Sarasota Craft Festival. Held in downtown Sarasota at Orange and Main Street, this is one of the more popular annual two day events on my Sarasota Calendar of Events and features everything from paintings to woodwork. Find , explore and shop among a variety of jewelry, pottery, ceramics, photography, painting, clothing and much more. Free admission. 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Main Street, downtown Sarasota . October 29, 2017: It's the 29th Anniversary Bill's Beer Run Marathon. The 5-mile, fund-raising run named after Bill Menard, takes place on Casey Key and the field is limited to 750 runners. October 29, 2016: The Bradenton Farmers’ Market is hosting Howl’ween, a pet costume contest and parade on Old Main Street. Dress your pet in its best Halloween costume and celebrate the fostering and adopting of animals by participating in a parade. Participants must sign in and line up at the intersection of Third Avenue West and Old Main Street at 10 a.m. The pet parade will begin at 10:30 a.m. Downtown Bradenton.

October 29, 2016: It's the 5th Annual Doggie & Kitty Halloween Festival and Costume Contest for pets! There will be prizes, refreshments, raffles, music, games, exhibits, treats and more including the pet parade at 11:15 a.m. There will also be animal adoptions in the park. Registration: $5 and a portion of the proceeds benefit local animal groups. Event takes place at Five Points Park in downtown Sarasota from 10 a.m.. - 3 p.m. Click here for more info. October 31, 2017: It's the Children's Costume and Halloween Parade in downtown Venice in Centennial Park. Meet at the Gazebo at 4 p.m. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Parade starts at 4:30 p.m. followed by trick or treating at Venice Avenue shops.

October 31, 2017: Bring your little ghosts and goblins for a Safe Treats Halloween in Siesta Key Village. Look for participating members displaying orange and black balloons and pumpkin flyers in their windows in Siesta Village along Ocean Blvd. and the surrounding streets. October 31, 2017: It's the 9th Annual Fright Night on St Armand's Circle for Halloween fun from 6 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. There will be haunted store fronts, frightening characters around every corner and statues dressed in the Halloween spirit. Kids can trick-or-treat around The Circle with numerous shops and restaurants contributing to the Halloween spirit with customized promotions.
