October 1 - 2, 2016: The 28th Annual Fruitville Grove Pumpkin Fest features hay rides, pony rides, pumpkin painting, face painting, mini train rides, a petting zoo, a costume contest every Saturday at 1 p.m. by the stage and more including live music starting at noon. Lots of Halloween decorations for sale, too, from scarecrows to hay bales. Food available for purchase. 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Additional dates are:10/08 - 10/09, 10/15 - 10/16, 10/22 - 23, & 10/29 - 10/30.  Free admission and parking. East of I-75 off exit 210, on the right. 7410 Fruitville Road, Sarasota.

October 6 - 8, 2016: Tour the old Manatee Burial Grounds' "Spirit Voices" and witness costumed actors bring the dead to life. This tour is based on diaries, narratives, archives and military logs. Souls highlighted in these cemetery vignettes are early pioneers of the Village of Manatee, veteran soldiers from the Seminole and Civil Wars, community leaders and other persons of interest buried within the hallowed grounds. (All shows take place outdoors, except the Sunday, October 23rd show, which takes place in the 1887 Old Meeting House Church for those who either cannot, or do not wish to trek through the 1850 Manatee Burying Grounds. (In case of inclement weather, outdoor shows will be held in the 1887 Church.) Gates open at 6:30 p.m., tour starts at 7:00 p.m. Continues October 13 - 16, 2016 and October 20 - 23, 2016. October 15 - 16, 2016: Get into the 25th Annual Hunsader Farms Pumpkin Festival featuring fun for all including craft booths, live music, pioneer trades village, scarecrow displays, pumpkin games for charity, hayrides, pony rides, petting zoo, frog jumping championships, kids train ride, fresh roasted sweet corn, rock climbing wall, face painting and more. Additional dates: Oct 22 - 23 and Oct  29 - 30. 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Admission $10, kids 12 & under free, parking $5. October 15, 2016: Enjoy the Howl-O-Ween Movie Night Spooktacular with the whole family at Ed Smith Stadium! Halloween fun will also include children’s games and activities, photo ops, a costume parade around the bases and a family-friendly Halloween-themed movie, "Hotel Transylvania," shown on the outfield video board. Bring your blanket for outfield viewing or watch from stadium seating. Concessions available. Coolers are not permitted. No strollers, lawn chairs or high heels allowed on the field. Admission is one non-perishable food item. Open to all ages. October 15, 2016: Enjoy a Halloween Candlelight Tour at Gamble Mansion Historic State Park. It's billed as a family friendly "spooky fun" event. Halloween costumes are encouraged, however, no gore allowed. 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. Tickets: $6.00 for adults, $4 for kids 6 - 12, under 6 are free. October 14 - 15, 2017: Join thousands at the 4th annual DeSoto Pumpkin Festival in Arcadia which will offer families with children of all ages an opportunity to enjoy an affordable and fun-filled experience and all things pumpkin! This year take in new thrills at the event including: Zip Lines, Costume Contests, Local Company Demonstrations, Business and Craft Vendors, Amazing Cuisine, Pony Rides, Carnival rides and games, art & crafts, Live entertainment, delicious food vendors, pie eating contest, FREE hay rides, safe trick or treating, pumpkin patch, pumpkin maze, over 50 Free Shows and more. October, 2016: Boo-Hoo! Frightmares, one of the area's largest haunted house attractions, has announced they will be Closed for 2016 Halloween Season. Frightmares is re-imagining its production and will re-open again in 2017. Frightmare's is one of the largest haunted attractions in Southwest Florida with over 12,000 square feet of terrifying, chest-pounding scares around every corner! Experience the most unique mix of horror and fun in Florida, with ghastly sights, horrifying sounds, terrifying FX and your worst nightmares brought to life. More info here.

October 21, 2016: It's a Night of Fun, Fish & Fright at Mote Aquarium. Kids of all ages are invited to dress up in costume. Sail the spooky seas and discover creatures from the deep in a safe and fun trick-or-treating zone.  And don’t miss Mote's signature underwater pumpkin carving in their spooktacular shark tank! Admission is $12 per person non member at the door. Special Member rate is $10 per person at the door. October 21, 2016: Have fun at the 14th Annual Goblin Gathering at Manatee Counties' G.T. Bray Park. A costume contest, face painting, hay rides, bounce houses and more for the kids. A $5 wristband is sold for children to participate in activities. Parents are free. Several local businesses will be handing out treats and sweets. 6:30 p.m. - 9:30 p.m. G.T. October 21 - 22, 2016: Historic Spanish Point hosts its Ghost Hunting Tours: A Walking tour featuring “un-living” encounters with history and spooky surprises at: 7:00 p.m., 8:00 p.m. & 9:00 p.m. It's a night-time investigation of the spooks, specters, and other ghostly activities of Spanish Point’s 30 acre outdoor museum. October 21 - 22, 2016: Take in the 4th Annual Haunted Trails of Oscar Scherer State Park if you dare! Two trails will wind through their haunted woods with varying degrees of fright. There will also be family fun activities for the youngest and faint of heart on the Trick or Trail. Costume contests, spooky sounds and more. $5 per person, age 4 and under are free. 8 p.m. - 10 p.m., Oscar Scherer State Park, Rt 41, Osprey. October 22, 2016: It's the Great Floating Pumpkin Patch, Charley Brown! With free candy, prizes and fun for kids, take part in the "Pumpkin Splash!" Grab one of a limited number of pumpkins and head inside the gym to decorate your pumpkin. Afterwards there will be a variety of Halloween themed games and activities as well as free candy and prizes. Hosted by Sarasota County Parks and Recreation Department from 2 p.m. - 5 p.m. for children age 12 and younger. Must be accompanied by an adult. Flotation devices must be U.S. Coast Guard approved. October 26, 2016: The Humane Society of Sarasota County returns to Phillippi Estate Park to host its 19th Annual Howl-O-Ween Pet Costume Contest. Pets of all shapes and sizes dressed in their favorite “Howl-O-Ween” costumes are welcome. Prizes will be awarded for such categories as "Cutest Costume, Funniest Costume, Spookiest Costume, Most Creative Costume and Best Dog/Owner Look-a-like Costume." Registration the day of the contest will begin at 9 a.m. Entry fee: $10 donation per pet. Humans are free! All proceeds will benefit the Humane Society of Sarasota County. October 26 - 27, 2016: Are you brave enough to join in the Venice Ghost Walk Tour hosted by the Venice Gondolier's Kim Cool? These are walking tours around the downtown area. Kim will talk about the sightings or stories of ghosts at several properties. There will be two tours each day, the first at 4:30 p.m. and the second at 5:30 p.m., and last about 45 minutes. The tours are limited to 15 people. The cost is $15. On October 26, beginning at 4 p.m., two volunteers will be at the Gazebo selling tickets for both days and both times and also at 4 p.m. on October 27. Meet at the Gazebo at Centennial Park in downtown Venice.

October 27 - 29, 2017: Cast a spell of sights, sounds and tastes of fall at The 9th annual Manasota Pumpkin Festival at DeSoto Square Mall, sure to be entertaining and exciting for all ages. Festival Goers will be amazed by the new performances, pumpkin patch and maze, pie eating contests, free shows, family midway amusement area complete with rides, games, inflatable land, petting zoo and pony rides along with delectable food, craft vendors and a beer garden. In addition there will be free hayrides and safe trick or treating from vendor to vendor, live bands and more! 12 p.m. - 10 p.m. daily. October 28, 2016: It's the 11th Annual Boo Fest Halloween Festival at Lakewood Ranch. Moving back to Main Street, the fest will be featuring Trick or Treating, a haunted house, get your family's picture taken in the pumpkin patch plus there will be face painting to match your costume, music and more. Dress in costume, bring your trick or treat bag and explore the Dark Maze! Fun for kids of all ages. Food and drinks available for purchase. October 28, 2016: Experience a Victorian Themed Funeral with grieving widow and fellow mourners where you can also take part as a mourner. It takes place in Mary's Chapel and there are two tours. The 7 p.m. tour is recommended for families. There's also one at 9 p.m. Seating in the chapel is limited and reservations are required. Tickets are $15 per non-member adult; $10 per non-member child; $8 per member adult; and $4 per member child. October 29, 2016: The 13th Annual Boo Run is a family oriented 5K run with a costume contest and awards. With over 1,200 runners and spectators expected, the race begins at 8:30 a.m. with a Boo Dash Kids Race at 7:45 a.m. All runners will receive a bib, t-shirt and a treat bag at registration. Costumes will be judged in these categories: Best Couple, Most Creative, Most Funny, Best Male/Female Kids Under 10. October 29, 2016: Enjoy something extra at The Bradenton Farmers’ Market. The Market is hosting Howl’ween, a pet costume contest and parade on Old Main Street. Dress your pet in its best Halloween costume and celebrate the fostering and adopting of animals by participating in a parade. Participants must sign in and line up at the intersection of Third Avenue West and Old Main Street at 10 a.m. The pet parade will begin at 10:30 a.m. Downtown Bradenton.

October 29, 2016: It's Halloween fun for our four legged friends with the 5th Annual Doggie & Kitty Halloween Festival and Costume Contest for pets! There will be prizes, refreshments, raffles, music, games, exhibits, treats and more including the pet parade at 11:15 a.m. There will also be animal adoptions in the park. October 29, 2016: Get your scare on and boogie with the boogie man! The Main Street Live Downtown Street Party kicks off its new season with a Halloween Party and it takes place on Historic Old Main Street in Bradenton from 5 p.m. - 12  a.m. with live music  throughout the night. The event also features food and drink vendors and arts and crafts. From 6 p-m - 8 p.m. the Del Couch Foundation will supply multiple acts with different genres. Seven Years Past, a rock group, will play from 8 p.m. - 10 p.m. Music ends at 10 p.m. but Old Main Street will remain closed until midnight. No charge to attend. October 30, 2016: The Italian American Club of Venice is hosting a Children's Halloween Bash with food, fun, prizes and treats for little ones 10 and younger (must be accompanied by an adult). October 31, 2016: It's the Children's Costume and Halloween Parade in downtown Venice in Centennial Park. Meet at the Gazebo at 4 p.m. and march behind Old Betsy the Firetruck and then trick or treat for candy at the businesses on W. October 31, 2016: Bring your little ghosts and goblins for a Safe Treats Halloween in Siesta Key Village. Look for participating members displaying orange and black balloons and pumpkin flyers in their windows. October 31, 2016: Take part in the Community Trick-or-Treat Stroll, perfect for families with small children. October 31, 2016: It's Fright Night on St Armand's Circle for Halloween fun from 6 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. There will be haunted store fronts, frightening characters around every corner and statues dressed in the Halloween spirit. Kids can trick-or-treat around The Circle with numerous shops and restaurants contributing to the Halloween spirit with customized promotions. A performance of "Thriller" will take place in collaboration with the Sarasota H.S. Drama Dept. about 8 p.m. Sarasota Halloween Events on Escape-to-Sarasota

October 31, 2016: Get into the spirit of Halloween with a Halloween Costume Party. Don your spookiest, most creative, etc. costume. Prizes will be awarded later in the evening.
