Here's my annual list of Sarasota Halloween Events, Haunted Houses and Festivals around the sun coast area. Have Fun!


October 6 - 7, 2017: Tour the old Manatee Burial Grounds' "Spirit Voices," now celebrating their 7th and final season, and witness costumed actors bring the dead to life. This outdoor drama and cemetery tour premiered in 2011 as an original living history production. It features costumed actors who portray the early settlers interred in the 1850 Manatee Burying Grounds with riveting graveside stories based on archives, descendants, diaries, military logs, books and legend. Viewers learn more about the development of the area from 1840 to the turn of the century. The program is an experience like no other, unfolding at the 1887 Meeting House Church at Manatee Village Historical Park with a Victorian wake and continuing by torch-light “on the other side,” at the 1850 Manatee Burying Grounds as the sun sets. Gates open at 6:30 p.m., Act 1  starts at 7:00 p.m. Continues October 12 - 15, 2017 and October 19 - 22, 2017. Lots of Halloween decorations for sale, too, from scarecrows to hay bales. Food available for purchase. 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Additional dates are:10/14 - 10/15, 10/21 - 22, & 10/28 - 10/29.  Free admission and parking. October 14, 2017: Enjoy the Howl-O-Ween Movie Night Spooktacular with the whole family at Ed Smith Stadium! Come out to enjoy a movie, games and a Halloween costume parade with the Orioles' bird out under the stars. Halloween fun will also include a family-friendly Halloween-themed movie shown on the outfield video board. Bring your blanket for outfield viewing or watch from stadium seating. Concessions available. Coolers are not permitted. No strollers, lawn chairs or high heels allowed on the field. Admission is one non-perishable food item. Open to all ages. October 14 - 15, 2017: Join thousands at the 4th annual DeSoto Pumpkin Festival in Arcadia which will offer families with children of all ages an opportunity to enjoy an affordable and fun-filled experience and all things pumpkin! This year take in new thrills at the event including: Zip Lines, Costume Contests, Local Company Demonstrations, Business and Craft Vendors, Amazing Cuisine, Pony Rides, Carnival rides and games, art & crafts, Live entertainment, delicious food vendors, pie eating contest, FREE hay rides, safe trick or treating, pumpkin patch, pumpkin maze, over 50 Free Shows and more. October 15, 2016: Enjoy a Halloween Candlelight Tour at Gamble Mansion Historic State Park. It's billed as a family friendly "spooky fun" event. Halloween costumes are encouraged, however, no gore allowed. 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. Tickets: $6.00 for adults, $4 for kids 6 - 12, under 6 are free. October, 2016: Boo-Hoo! Frightmares, one of the area's largest haunted house attractions, has announced they will be Closed for 2016 Halloween Season. Frightmares is re-imagining its production and will re-open again in 2017. Frightmare's is one of the largest haunted attractions in Southwest Florida with over 12,000 square feet of terrifying, chest-pounding scares around every corner! Experience the most unique mix of horror and fun in Florida, with ghastly sights, horrifying sounds, terrifying FX and your worst nightmares brought to life. More info here.

October 20, 2017: It's a Night of Fun, Fish & Fright at Mote Aquarium. Kids of all ages are invited to dress up in costume.Unearth shark teeth in “Coffin Creek," enjoy deep sea delights in the “Diner of the Dead" and take part in Mad Science experiments and activities. Don’t miss their signature underwater pumpkin carving in their spooktacular shark habitats! NEW THIS YEAR: Mad Science Experiments and Live Shows. October 20 - 21, 2017: Take in the 5th Annual Haunted Trails of Oscar Scherer State Park if you dare! A spooky haunted trail and haunted house for those who dare to be scared, a trick-or-treat trail for the younger or more cautious! Lots of activities for kids, costume contests, food, spooky sounds and more! A frightfully fun time for the howl family! Adults 13+ $10. October 21, 2016: Have fun at the 14th Annual Goblin Gathering at Manatee Counties' G.T. Bray Park. A costume contest, face painting, hay rides, bounce houses and more for the kids. A $5 wristband is sold for children to participate in activities. Parents are free. Several local businesses will be handing out treats and sweets. 6:30 p.m. - 9:30 p.m. G.T. October 21 - 22, 2016: Historic Spanish Point hosts its Ghost Hunting Tours: A Walking tour featuring “un-living” encounters with history and spooky surprises at: 7:00 p.m., 8:00 p.m. & 9:00 p.m. It's a night-time investigation of the spooks, specters, and other ghostly activities of Spanish Point’s 30 acre outdoor museum. This tour will both frighten and entertain your family. (appropriate for kids ages 8 & up). 7 p.m. - 11 p.m. Only 30 spaces per tour. Tickets: $15 for members, $20 non-members. 337 N. October 22, 2016: It's the Great Floating Pumpkin Patch, Charley Brown! With free candy, prizes and fun for kids, take part in the "Pumpkin Splash!" Grab one of a limited number of pumpkins and head inside the gym to decorate your pumpkin. Afterwards there will be a variety of Halloween themed games and activities as well as free candy and prizes. Hosted by Sarasota County Parks and Recreation Department from 2 p.m. - 5 p.m. for children age 12 and younger. Must be accompanied by an adult. Flotation devices must be U.S. Coast Guard approved. October 24 - 27, 2016: SCF hosts its 9th annual haunted house event, “Game House." The "Game House” will offer a scary twist on childhood games to anyone who dares to check in. Parents should be aware that even though there is not an age requirement for the haunted house, it may not be appropriate for younger children. A percentage of the proceeds will benefit Safe Place and Rape Crisis Center (SPARCC), a nonprofit agency in Sarasota that serves victims of domestic and sexual violence and promotes a violence-free community through awareness and education. 7 p.m. - 10 p.m. October 28 until 11 p.m. Tickets will be sold at the door for $3 (cash only). October 25, 2017: The Humane Society of Sarasota County hosts its 20th Annual Howl-O-Ween Pet Costume Contest. Pets of all shapes and sizes dressed in their favorite “Howl-O-Ween” costumes are welcome. Prizes will be awarded for such categories as "Cutest Costume, Funniest Costume, Spookiest Costume, Most Creative Costume, Best Costumed Rescue and Best Pet/Owner Look-a-like Costume." Entry fee: $15 donation per pet. Humans are free! Lots of free parking. All proceeds will benefit the Humane Society of Sarasota County. Pet Costume Contest Pre-registration is required. October 26 - 27, 2016: Are you brave enough to join in the Venice Ghost Walk Tour hosted by the Venice Gondolier's Kim Cool? These are walking tours around the downtown area. Kim will talk about the sightings or stories of ghosts at several properties. There will be two tours each day, the first at 4:30 p.m. and the second at 5:30 p.m., and last about 45 minutes. The tours are limited to 15 people. The cost is $15. On October 26, beginning at 4 p.m., two volunteers will be at the Gazebo selling tickets for both days and both times and also at 4 p.m. on October 27. Meet at the Gazebo at Centennial Park in downtown Venice.

October 27, 2017: Experience a Victorian Themed Funeral with grieving widow and fellow mourners where you can also take part as a mourner. It takes place in Mary's Chapel and there are two tours. The 7 p.m. tour is recommended for families. There's also one at 9 p.m. Seating in the chapel is limited and reservations are required. Tickets are $20 per non-member adult; $15 per member adult. October 27, 2017: It's the 12th Annual Boo Fest Halloween Festival at Lakewood Ranch. The fest will be featuring Trick or Treating, the Spooktacular Maze, a spooky balloon artist, local dancers, music and more. Dress in costume for the Halloween Costume Contest and bring your trick or treat bag. Fun for kids of all ages. Food and drinks available for purchase. 6 p.m. - 9 p.m. Admission is Free. October 27 - 29, 2017: Cast a spell of sights, sounds and tastes of fall at The 9th annual Manasota Pumpkin Festival at DeSoto Square Mall, sure to be entertaining and exciting for all ages. Festival Goers will be amazed by the new performances, pumpkin patch and maze, pie eating contests, free shows, family midway amusement area complete with rides, games, inflatable land, petting zoo and pony rides along with delectable food, craft vendors and a beer garden. In addition there will be free hayrides and safe trick or treating from vendor to vendor, live bands and more! 12 p.m. - 10 p.m. daily. October 28, 2017: The 14th Annual Boo Run is a family oriented 5K run with a costume contest and awards. With over 1,200 runners and spectators expected, the race begins at 8:30 a.m. with a Boo Dash Kids Race at 7:45 a.m. All runners will receive a bib, t-shirt and a treat bag at registration. Costumes will be judged in these categories: Best Couple, Most Creative, Most Funny, Best Male/Female Kids Under 10. October 28, 2017: Get into the spirit as the Main Street Live Downtown Street Party kicks off its new season with a Halloween Party and it takes place on Historic Old Main Street in Bradenton from 5 p.m. - 12  a.m. with live music throughout the night. The event also features food and drink vendors and arts and crafts. Music ends at 10 p.m. but Old Main Street will remain closed until midnight. October 29, 2016: Enjoy something extra at The Bradenton Farmers’ Market. The Market is hosting Howl’ween, a pet costume contest and parade on Old Main Street. Dress your pet in its best Halloween costume and celebrate the fostering and adopting of animals by participating in a parade. Participants must sign in and line up at the intersection of Third Avenue West and Old Main Street at 10 a.m. The pet parade will begin at 10:30 a.m. Downtown Bradenton.

October 29, 2017: Enjoy the Selby Gardens Spooktacular with the whole family. With fun and not too scary festivities, bring your camera for pictures of your costumed family! Trick or treating and pumpkin decorating, fun and educational activities like seed planting, as well as more frightening (but not too scary) options for older children like a mad scientist experiment center. October 29, 2016: It's Halloween fun for our four legged friends with the 5th Annual Doggie & Kitty Halloween Festival and Costume Contest for pets! There will be prizes, refreshments, raffles, music, games, exhibits, treats and more including the pet parade at 11:15 a.m. There will also be animal adoptions in the park. October 30, 2016: The Italian American Club of Venice is hosting a Children's Halloween Bash with food, fun, prizes and treats for little ones 10 and younger (must be accompanied by an adult). October 31, 2017: It's the Children's Costume and Halloween Parade in downtown Venice in Centennial Park. Meet at the Gazebo at 4 p.m. Children must be accompanied by an adult. October 31, 2017: Bring your little ghosts and goblins for a Safe Treats Halloween in Siesta Key Village. Look for participating members displaying orange and black balloons and pumpkin flyers in their windows in Siesta Village along Ocean Blvd. and the surrounding streets. October 31, 2016: Take part in the Community Trick-or-Treat Stroll, perfect for families with small children. October 31, 2017: It's the 9th Annual Fright Night on St Armand's Circle for Halloween fun from 6 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. There will be haunted store fronts, frightening characters around every corner and statues dressed in the Halloween spirit. Kids can trick-or-treat around The Circle with numerous shops and restaurants contributing to the Halloween spirit with customized promotions.
