May 2, 2024: It's the Venice National Day Of Prayer Outside Happening. Bring a chair and join the First Baptist Church of Venice for an hour of worship, music, and speakers. May 3, 2024: The finale in the 2024 Jazz at Two series features big and jazz with the Rodney Rojas Ensemble. Enjoy jazz standards, blues, bossas and favorites music from the American Songbook from Rodney’s 10 piece band featuring many of the area’s best musicians. May 3, 2024: It's the first Friday of the month on so that means Music on Main at Lakewood Ranch from 6 - 9 p.m! Beer, wine and food available. Appreciating Nature – Brigade will fill the air with classic rock covers by Heart and the event will benefit Camelot Community Care.The street is lined with food vendors, beer trucks, and sponsor booths, as well as rides and activities for the kids. Bring your chairs, but leave coolers at home. Dogs are welcome, but must be kept on a short leash. Overflow parking is available at the Lakewood Ranch Medical Center. May 4, 2024: It's the 26th annual Corvettes on the Circle Car Show at the beautiful St. Armand's Circle where you can spend the day viewing over 150 models of an American automotive classic. The show is limited to 175 models. The show will include all Corvette model years from the classic 1953 C1 to the current Corvette Stingray. Trophies will be awarded to the top three Corvettes in each generational class as well as Best in Show and Skyway Corvette Club Favorite. It’s a fun-filled day meeting friends and experiencing these beautiful automobiles up close and personal. May 4, 2024: It's Manatee's 3rd Annual Taco Fest. The MAFT 2023 event featured over 85 of Tri-State Area's Best Taco and other Food Vendors alongside a variety of Specialty Cocktails, Artisans and entertainment. May 4, 2024: The former Harvey Milk festival is now called the  Pride | Be Fabulous Arts & Music Festival. May 4, 2024: The Bradenton Marauders are playing a home stand against the Ft. Myers Mighty Mussels and tonight is Star Wars night. Star Wars characters will make appearances at the ballpark and the Marauders will wear Star Wars-themed jerseys that will be auctioned off, with proceeds going to charity. May 4 - 5, 2024:  It's fun for all kids and kids at heart. It's the PAL Sailor Circus Spring Show, "Genesis." Acrobats, clowns and a copious cast of colorful characters will dazzle!  The Greatest "Little Show on Earth" celebrates the tradition of the circus arts with more than 100 young circus artists. May 4 - 5, 2024: Check out the 4th annual Downtown Sarasota Spring Craft Fair. A variety of jewelry, pottery, ceramics, photography, painting, clothing and much more - all handmade in America - will be on display, ranging from $15 to $3,000. May 4 - June 9, 2024: It's time to drop your hook, line and sinker for the 94th Sarasota Tarpon Tournament! Entry fee is $150 and proceeds benefit a local charitable organization. The Kick-Off Event this year will be held at Joyland, 8341 Lockwood Ridge Road in Sarasota on Wednesday night, May 3, at 6:30 PM, dinner is included with your Entry Fee, and a cash bar will be available. Food and drinks available for purchase. 6 p.m. - 9 p.m. Tickets will be available approx. one month prior to each event, and will include a 24 hour pre-sale period for members. May 6, 2023:The Annual Siesta Key Sand Sculpture Contest is no longer. From the Sarasota County Recreation Department: "After 50 years, the Amateur Sand Sculpting Contest has come to a close. Low participation was the main component to our decision. Crystal Classic has an amateur component to the festival in November and we hope some sculptures will come to participate then." May 6, 2023: TBA for 2024. Three organizations — Venice Historical Resources, Venice Heritage, and the Venice Area Historical Society — will celebrate Venice history with the return of Venice Museums Day. This free event takes place at the Venice Museum, 351 Nassau St S, Venice, FL., Lord-Higel House, 409 Granada Ave, Venice, FL., and the Venice Historic Train Depot, 303 E Venice Ave, Venice, FL. Each organization will offer activities at each site. A free trolley bus will shuttle between sites. Start at any site and use the free shuttle to visit all three. May 8, 2024: Marie Selby Botanical Gardens presents its 2024 “Performances at the Point” outdoor evening concert series at the Historic Spanish Point campus in Osprey with Jaqua Pearce. The event is from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., doors open at 6:00 p.m., and guests will have time to enjoy the area around the historic White Cottage, Sunken Garden, and Pergola overlooking Little Sarasota Bay prior to the performance. May 16, 2024: It's the inaugural season of the Manatee Music Series. Paul Fournier is on the bill for the May 16 concert. Accepted into Berklee College of Music in 2011, Paul decided to take a promotion job at BB Kings Blues Club in Manhattan, NY. May 17, 2024: Check out the Venice Hurricane Expo. Speakers from the City will be Fire Chief Frank Giddens, Police Lt. Louis White and City Engineer Kathleen Weeden. Sarasota County Emergency Management Chief Sandra Tapfumaneyi will also speak, along with ABC-7 Chief Meteorologist Bob Harrigan, who emphasizes, “We’re here to prepare you, not scare you.” Speaker topics will include information gained and lessons learned from recent hurricanes, storm prep, the role of emergency services, stormwater/flooding, evacuation centers and the County transportation plan, common myths and misconceptions, and what to do following a hurricane. May 18, 2024: After a several year hiatus Venice Brew Fest returns. Spend the afternoon sipping on locally brewed beers at the Venice Brew Fest! May 24, 2024: It's back! The Van Wezel's Friday Fest! Headlining the event is the Hot Tonic Orchestra, renowned for their high-energy performances that blend swing, Latin jazz, and popular music into a one-of-a-kind live experience. Led by bandleader Victoria Woods, whose sultry vocals and driving acoustic bass anchor the ensemble, and featuring the masterful arrangements of musical director and virtuoso guitarist Josh Hindmarsh, the band guarantees an evening of authentic swing, jazz, and irresistible Cuban dance rhythms. Whether it's lighting up the stage with Latin American flair or putting their own unique spin on popular tunes, Hot Tonic Orchestra promises to deliver a memorable performance that will have the audience grooving all night long. May 25, 2024: SRQ VETS is hosting the 9th Annual Memorial Day 5K Hike to honor the fallen heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice. This event will work to unite the local veterans and civilian communities while raising funds to support SRQ VETS and their efforts to help the local veterans. SRQ VETS is a 100% volunteer veteran-run 501c3 whose mission is to find resources and get them to our local veterans and their families. The hike will start at JD Hamel War Memorial Park then over the Ringling Bridge, then back to the Park for an afternoon of fun that includes a Cookout, Music, & Inflatables. A $35 donation when you pay in advance online tickets sales end 5/21/2024. $40 after online ticket sales are over. Every paid participant 21 yrs old and up will receive an event t-shirt, 1 lunch ticket, 1 beverage ticket. May 25, 2024: Kids and kids at heart can enjoy fun art and nature activities on Saturday morning. It’s the first of four monthly “Family Saturdays” coming up at Selby Gardens’ Downtown Sarasota campus. Activities will run from 10 a.m. to noon each day, and participation is included in admission to the Gardens, which is always free for Selby Gardens members. These Family Saturdays celebrate the current exhibition on view, Yayoi Kusama: A Letter to Georgia O’Keeffe. Several activity stations with different art-focused projects will be set up in the Ann Goldstein Children’s Rainforest Garden during each monthly event. The goal is to invite kids of all ages to explore the artwork of Yayoi Kusama and Georgia O’Keeffe through activities that also connect them to the natural environment.10 a.m. - Noon. May 25, 2024: Enjoy Patriotic Pops & Fireworks at CoolToday Park with the Venice Symphony! Venice Symphony Music Director Music Director Troy Quinn will lead the Venice Symphony in a concert of great American music including a salute to the Armed Forces. May 26, 2024:  To put a little fun in the hot days of a Sarasota summer it's the AquaPalooza 2024, an on the water party for boaters with fun in the sun. The fest takes place at New Pass Sandbar, just in front of the MarineMax Marina, 1601 Ken Thompson Parkway, Sarasota, FL. The fest is being called "the largest party on the water" by organizers. May 27, 2023: TBA for 2024. This year Memorial Day at the Sarasota National Cemetery will honor America's fallen military members in remembrance of their ultimate sacrifice. The Department of Veterans Affairs Sarasota National Cemetery will host a  tribute honoring the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in military service to America. Members of Gold Star families will speak about the service and sacrifice of America’s fallen. Akiel Reyes-Melenzez and Raphael Fabyanic, both graduating cadets from Sarasota Military Academy, will offer remarks about the origins of Memorial Day. Local area musicians Lindsey Graham and Jae Langston will perform patriotic music and their original music scores dedicated to fallen troops. VFW Post 10141 will present colors. May 27, 2024: Manatee County Veterans Council invites you to join them at the newly named “Donald L Courtney Veterans Park” for Bradenton's annual Memorial Day Service. Guest Speaker will be Mayor Shirly Groover-Brynt. They will have the laying of the wreaths. Water will be available. May 27, 2024: The Sarasota Memorial Day Parade will feature the City of Sarasota Police Color Guard and Motorcycle contingent. and will host numerous Veterans groups including SRQ Veterans, American Legion, VFW, Vietnam Veterans, Vietnam Nam Brotherhood, SAR and DAR and many other groups. The 2024 Memorial Day Parade will begin at 10:00 a.m. at Osprey and Main in downtown Sarasota, FL. The Memorial Day Ceremony will be conducted at Chaplain J.D. May 27, 2024:  Snook Haven present its FINAL (One more LAST CALL)  Myakka River Blues Festival on Memorial Day. The lineup for this year’s festival will appeal to all audiences, with styles from American electric and soul blues, international blues and swing to everything in between: 11:00AM to 12:00 noon – Acoustic Blues, 12:00 noon to 1:00PM. – Delta Swamp Rats, 1:30PM to 3:00PM – Backtrack Blues Band, 3:30PM – 5:00PM – Bridget Kelly Band. Tickets must be purchased online and in advance. Tickets are $35 or $50 for a ticket plus a commemorative event t-shirt. May 27, 2024:  Memorial Day, at 3:00 pm, there is a National Moment of Remembrance, an annual event that asks Americans, wherever they are at 3:00 pm local time, to pause for one minute to remember those who have died in military service to the United States. TAPS Across America encourages all who are interested to play TAPS at 3:00 pm. The time 3 p.m. was chosen because it is the time when most Americans are enjoying time off for work for the national holiday.
