July 1, 2017: Celebrate the finale of the 3rd annual week long Shark Days at Mote Aquarium. Learn about the science behind these incredible animals, ask questions of Mote shark experts. On Saturday, July 1, enjoy the Fins & Fun Family Festival with shark related games, activities and craft. Entertainment, fun and more. July 1, 2017: The original "Miss Super Boat Grand Prix” Bikini Contest is now the The Miss Powerboat P1 Swimsuit Contest. It will take place at 1 p.m., at the Grand Prix "Fan Fest," back in it's original location in Centennial Park/Van Wezel Parking Lot, 1105 10th St, Sarasota.The contest is open to the general public to participate in. and past year prizes were: 1st Place $1,000, 2nd Place $750, 3rd Place $500, 4th Place $150, 5th Place $100. July 1,2017: Get some pre-4th sparkle and boom boom! Enjoy a spectacular fireworks show with your family and enjoy music, food and games. Bring your blanket or folding chairs. Personal fireworks prohibited. You can bring your own food and drinks, however no glass containers are allowed. On the water rental opportunities are available from 5 p.m. - 7 p.m. Do not bring your dog to this event as the fireworks display may frighten him. Free admission. July 1 ,2017: Enjoy Marauder's Baseball along with Fireworks after the game at McKechnie/LECOM Field in Bradenton as the Marauders take on Florida. The first 1,500 fans will receive free t-shirts. During the game fans will be able to bid on the patriotically themed jerseys the Marauders wear and winning bidders will be invited onto the field to receive the jersey after the game. July 3, 2017: See their biggest fireworks show of their season after the Charlotte Stone Crabs game and before the game they'll drop from a helicopter 100 lbs of candy onto the outfield for kids 14 and younger to gather up at 4:30 p.m. Gates open at 4 p.m. Tickets $5 - $20. July 4, 2017: The 11th Annual Firecracker 5K Run will take place at at the Morgan Family Community Center located at 6207 West Price Blvd, North Port. The race will begin at 7:30 a.m. The course is flat, fast, and well marked with two water stations along the way in the 3.1 mile stretch. Early bird pre-registration fee is $20 before 5/31/17, $25 after 6/1/16. July 4, 2017:  It's the 3rd annual Myakka River Kayak Festival and 4th of July Jam Blast featuring live music and craft beers. Live musical entertainment will take place throughout the day with Steve Arvey from 11 a.m. - noon and George Worthmore from 12:30 p.m. - 4 p.m. Bring your canoe or kayak or kayak and canoe rentals will be available starting at  8 a.m. or you can bring your own. July 4, 2017: It's being billed as A Patriotic Spectacular and will feature Gloria Musicae with a patriotic concert full of choral fireworks celebrating America. The Choral Artists of Sarasota raise their voices in song to celebrate national Independence Day with a rousing concert full of inspiration and patriotism. The American Dream - liberty and justice for all - forms the cornerstone of this annual sell-out performance. Add this great way to feel good about America to your independence day celebration! July 4, 2017: Have a Grand Old Time and Celebrate America’s Independence Day, The Fourth of July! The Sarasota Suncoast puts on as festive an occasion as anywhere else. During the long holiday weekend there are events and fireworks displays up and down the coast, from beach to shining beach! All fireworks displays start around dusk, of course, and all can be viewed by land as well as some by sea. (Please note: schedules may change and weather conditions may force cancellation of events.) July 4 - 5, 2017: The Kids Summer Beach Runs are 1-mile beach runs held every Tuesday (through Aug. 8) at Siesta Beach on Siesta Key near the pavilion, and every Wednesday (through Aug. 9) at Brohard Beach (1600 Harbor Drive) next to the Venice Fishing Pier, near Fins at Sharky's, Venice. Participation ribbons awarded along with a free ice pop each week. Registration at each location begins at 5:30 p.m. and the beach run starts promptly at 6:30 p.m. There's a one-time $1 registration fee. July 5, 2017: Sarasota County is looking for volunteers for the 2017 Liberty Litter Cleanup. Volunteers will help clean up six of the July 4th venues that are utilized the most during the festivities. Cleanup efforts will take place from 7 a.m. - 9 a.m. at Siesta Key, Lido Beach, South Lido Beach, Nokomis Beach, North Jetty Beach and Blind Pass Beach.  All volunteers should report to the Site Captain at their cleaning location. July 7, 2017: Lakewood Ranch presents Music on Main the first Friday of each month from 6 p.m.- 9 p.m.! Live music, beer, wine and food available. Bring your chairs, but leave coolers at home. Dogs are welcome, but must be kept on a short leash. Overflow parking is available at the Lakewood Ranch Medical Center. Lakewood Ranch is off University Parkway east of I-75.

July 7 - 9, 2017:  Get in on the hunt for the 4th Annual Sarasota Lionfish Derby sponsored by and based at Mote Marine Laboratory. Captain's meeting is July 7, Lionfish hunting derby is July 8 offshore from Collier to Escambia Counties. Weigh-in is July 9 at Mote Marie Laboratory and the public is invited. Last year 429 Lionfish were caught and removed from the gulf. Derbies are a way to help divers harvest Lionfish, provide public education and opportunities to taste the delicious lionfish for free. July 9 - 10, 2017: It's time for try-out Auditions for Spirit Voices from Old Manatee, Season VII. Spirit Voices from Old Manatee is an original artistic production  The outdoor drama takes place in the month of October at Manatee Village Historical Park and the 1850 Manatee Burying Grounds in Bradenton, Florida. Costumed thespians personify those interred through graveside dialogue based on narratives from archives, descendants, diaries, military logs, books and legend. Souls highlighted in these cemetery vignettes are early pioneers of the Village of Manatee, veteran soldiers from the Seminole and Civil Wars, community leaders, victims of yellow fever, and other persons of interest buried within these hallowed grounds. July 13, 2017: Check out a traditional Green Tea Ceremony and Koto Concert hosted by the Florida House Institute, a Sarasota-based nonprofit organization. Inspiring environmental stewardship and enhancing the quality of life through exploration, design, and action, they have a demonstration home and civic engagement center. You're invited to enjoy acclaimed musician, storyteller and artist Kuniko Yamamoto, from Osaka, Japan, with stories of Zen and Samurai and the music of Koto, a 13-string Japanese zitar. July 13 - 15, 2017: Time to LOL! It's the 9th Annual Sarasota Improv Festival when laughter takes over the entire Florida Studio Theatre campus! The Sarasota Improv Festival brings together the most creative and inventive improv groups from all across the country and the world to take risks, get raw, and get real on stage in a variety of improv formats. Our own Florida homegrown troupes will appear and the festival will also feature workshops taught by the professional improvisers attending the festival. July 20 - 25, 2017: The USA Volleyball Junior Beach Tournament Championships bounce into Siesta Key with boys 12 and under to 16 and under 7/20 - 7/23 and boys 16 and under through 18 and under and girls 14 and under through18 and under 7/23 - 7/25. 800 players! 400 teams. Crowds will be large for this 6 day tournament. These are the final games for this tour which started back in January. Location: Siesta Key volley ball courts. Take your hat and sunscreen. July 21, 2017: Enjoy an evening on the bayfront and some free live music at the 16th annual summer music fest, "Friday Fest '17", at the Van Wezel with Kettle of Fish, one of the hottest live acts in Southwest Florida, featuring blues, soul and funk with the energy of rock 'n roll. Bring your lawn chair or blanket, take in the music along with the beautiful Sarasota sunset and enjoy food and beverage from local vendors. Outside food and drink is prohibited. July 21 - 22, 2017: Historic downtown Venice brings back Christmas in July. While basically a sales promotion they will have Santa and Mrs. Claus on hand and participating stores will offer entry forms for a competition to win gift baskets donated by various member merchants. There will also be big sales and prizes to win with over 50 downtown stores and sponsors participating. 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Free Christmas Trolley rides throughout downtown. Historic Downtown Venice.

July 22, 2017: Come celebrate and take part in Snooty’s 69th Birthday Bash and Wildlife Festival from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Snooty is the World's Oldest manatee on record. There will be wildlife awareness information plus children's games. A portion of 10th Street West in front of the museum will be closed to traffic from 7 a.m. - 3 p.m. and there will be street vendors, live music and food and beverages for sale (No alcohol).  Snooty was born on July 21, 1948 at the old Miami Aquarium and Tackle Company. Admission to the birthday party in the Spanish Plaza is free. July 22, 2017: Celebrate Star Wars night at LECOM Park as the Bradenton Marauders take on the Clearwater Threshers. Marauders players will wear Star Wars themed jerseys which will be auctioned off for charity during the game. Fireworks will follow the game. July 28 - 30, 2017: It's the Tampa Bay Comic Con, a huge event for fans and aficionados of everything comic books! The weekend will be filled with celebrity guests and appearances. July 29, 2017: The Bradenton Marauders will host Back to School Night at LECOM/McKechnie Field. The first 500 kids age 12 and under will receive a free backpack. The Marauders play the Palm Beach Cardinals at 6:30 p.m. The gates open at 5:30 p.m.Tickets are $6 - $10. The ticket office opens two hours before Saturday, Sunday, and morning games. July 29 - 30, 2017: Check out the Major Beach Soccer Coquina Beach Summer Qualifier Tournament. Watch or put together your own team and play.
