July 2, 2019: It's the by invitation only, the Friendliest Catch Fishing Tournament for the physically and mentally challenged.This event is limited to clients with special needs who receive services from local non-profit agencies supported by Suncoast Charities for Children, the organizers of the annual Sarasota Powerboat Grand Prix Festival. 9:00 a.m. Lunch provided at noon.  Sarasota Outboard Club, 1604 Ken Thompson Pkwy, Sarasota, FL.

July 2 - 3, 2019: The Kids Summer Beach Runs are 1-mile beach runs held every Tuesday (through July, 30) at Siesta Beach on Siesta Key near the pavilion, and every Wednesday (through July 31) at Brohard Beach (1600 Harbor Drive) next to the Venice Fishing Pier, near Fins at Sharky's, Venice. For ages 1 - 17, participation ribbons are awarded along with a free ice pop each week. Registration at each location begins at 5:30 p.m. and the beach run starts promptly at 6:30 p.m. Free. The runs are a popular summer event combining exercise and fun. Complete four runs and earn a free custom T-shirt along with other prizes. More at 941-861-5000. July 3, 2019: It's race number 2 of the 3 Holiday Race Challenge, a three-event running challenge that kicked off St. Patrick’s Day weekend at Nathan Benderson Park. The second race in the series is the first annual Fireworks On The Lake 4 Miler on July 3, 2019 in conjunction with the annual NBP Fireworks On the Lake. Runners consider NBP an ideal location for running events because of its generally flat courses and near unlimited visibility of the entire race course from anywhere. The challenge will include running on the “floating final mile,” across the 12-foot-wide floating wave attenuater that runs north-and-south on the NBP lake. The challenge concludes with the second annual Florida Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving morning, November 28, 2019. The race is a part of the Thanksgiving tradition for many area families, drawing more than 2,300 participants in the 2018 inaugural event. Register online and at any area Fit2Run store. In addition to the challenge medal, participants who register for all three races by March 16, 2019 will get an exclusive long-sleeve tri-blend T-shirt to commemorate the inaugural Holiday Challenge. July 3, 2019: See their biggest fireworks show of their season after the Charlotte Stone Crabs game against the St. Lucie Mets and before the game there will be a pregame Helicopter Candy Drop. Tickets $8 - $9. Game time: 6:30 p.m. Charlotte Sports Park, 2300 El Jobean Rd, Port Charlotte, FL.

July 3, 2019: As All-American as it gets: Baseball and fireworks! Take in the Marauder's Baseball game along with Fireworks after the game at LECOM Field. Gates open at 4:30 p.m., game time at 6:30 p.m. against the Jupiter Hammerheads and a post-game fireworks show. The first 1,500 fans will receive free t-shirts. July 4, 2019: Have a Grand Old Time and Celebrate America’s Independence Day, The Fourth of July! The Sarasota Suncoast puts on as festive an occasion as anywhere else. During the long holiday weekend there are events and fireworks displays up and down the coast, from beach to shining beach! All fireworks displays start around dusk, of course, and all can be viewed by land as well as some by sea. (Please note: schedules may change and weather conditions may force cancellation of events.) July 4, 2019: A day of fun and music. Check out the 5th annual Myakka River Kayak Festival and 4th of July Jam Blast with kayaking, live music and craft beers. July 4, 2019: Celebrate the Fourth of July with The Choral Artists of Sarasota as they present Sounds of Independence with rousing songs celebrating America including perennial favorites. A patriotic concert full of choral fireworks celebrating America, the American Dream - liberty and justice for all - forms the cornerstone of this annual sell-out performance. 4:00 p.m. Tickets: $5 - $45. July 4, 2019: Enjoy a spectacular fireworks show with your family. There will also be a festive 4 Miler Race around the lake at Nathan Benderson Park where you can experience the feel of a major race with crowds cheering you on as you celebrate Independence Day with a patriotic themed race just before sundown. There are also several kids' dashes planned. Bands at the starting and finish line, plus food and beverages at the after party and VIP parking for the fireworks make this race an event not to be missed. Bands performing from 7 p.m. - 10 p.m. Personal fireworks prohibited. Do not bring your dog to this event as the fireworks display may frighten it. July 5, 2019: Sarasota County is looking for volunteers for the 6th Annual Liberty Litter Cleanup. Volunteers will focuses on area beaches hit hardest by the July 4th celebrations. Cleanup efforts will take place from 7 a.m. - 9 a.m. at Siesta Key, Lido Beach, South Lido Beach, Nokomis Beach, North Jetty Park, Venice Beach and Blind Pass Beach & Park. All volunteers should report to the Site Captain at their cleaning location. To volunteer and confirm locations call 941-861-5000. July 5, 2019: Lakewood Ranch presents Music on Main the first Friday of each month from 6 p.m.- 9 p.m.! Live music, beer, wine and food available. Bring your chairs, but leave coolers at home. July 5, 2019: The Sarasota Power Boats Grand Prix Festival hosts its Boats on Main Block Party. The event lets you meet the race teams up close and see the powerboats on display and get some great photos plus there's also great food, drinks and live music. 6 p.m. - 10 p.m. Main Street, Sarasota, FL.

July 5, 2019: Join Venice Institute for Performing Arts and Venice MainStreet, Inc. for the premiere of the Gazebo Starlight Cinema series with the showing of Percy Jackson & The Olympians. July 6, 2019: The FST Improv Presents "When X Meets Y:" The American Revolution, a special in honor musical improv show of Independence Day. Inspired by one location and three random notes on the keyboard, the cast of FST Improv’s "When X Meets Y" will weave a story of love taking place during the American Revolution. In the style of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Hamilton, the show follows a band of colonialists as they try to fight the British while falling in love at the same time. July 8, 2019: The City of Venice invites you to a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the Downtown Beautification Project for a short ceremony in Centennial Park followed by a ribbon cutting on West Venice Avenue to officially present the downtown improvements to the citizens and visitors of the City of Venice. July 8, 2019: The Jazz Club of Sarasota summer concert series continues at the Florida Studio Theatre Court Cabaret with Chuck Redd and La Lucha. Chuck Redd is well known internationally as a performer on drums and vibraphone. Chuck began recording and touring the globe when he joined the Charlie Byrd Trio at the age of 21. He also became a member of the Great Guitars (Barney Kessel, Byrd and Herb Ellis.) La Lucha is a Tampa Bay based trio that consists of three best friends from three different parts of the world; Colombia, Mexico & United States; Alejandro Arenas, bass; John O’Leary, piano; and Mark Feinman, drums. Their repertoire is a diverse mixture of Latin inspired rhythms with Jazz standards, twisted arrangements of pop songs and original compositions. La Lucha performed as the "house rhythm section" for the 2019 Sarasota Jazz Festival. Jazz Club members $35; non members $39. A full series subscription is $165 for the five concerts. July 12 - 13, 2019: Time to LOL! It's the 11th Annual Sarasota Improv Festival when laughter takes over the entire Florida Studio Theatre campus! This year’s Festival will bring together over 20 of the top improv troupes from across the nation and as far as Canada and the UK to Florida’s Gulf Coast for a weekend of spontaneous comedy to take risks, get raw, and get real on stage in a variety of improv formats. Headlining this year is Quartet, a group that knows how to shape these core elements into thrilling improvisation. In addition to Quartet, this year’s Festival will welcome two international improv groups: The Maydays from the United Kingdom and 2-Man No Show from Canada. July 12 - 14, 2019:  Get in on the hunt for the 6th Annual Sarasota Lionfish Derby sponsored by and based at Mote Marine Laboratory. Captain's meeting is July 12, Lionfish hunting derby is July 13 offshore from Collier to Escambia Counties. Weigh-in is July 14 at Mote Marie Laboratory and the public is invited. Derbies are a way to help divers harvest Lionfish, provide public education and opportunities to taste the delicious Lionfish for free. Cost to participate in the Derby is $120.00 per team (minimum 2 people per team, maximum 4 people). The public is invited to join Mote scientists and derby participants at the weigh-in for educational dissections and lionfish tastings on Sunday. July 19, 2019: Enjoy an evening on the bay front and some free live music at the 18th annual summer music fest, "Friday Fest", at the Van Wezel with Rebel Heart, featuring some of today's most popular country songs, mixed with a healthy dose of hits from pop, rock, dance and the blues! The 5-piece band will put on a high-energy, powerful and melodic country rock act.  Bring your lawn chair or blanket, take in the music along with the beautiful Sarasota sunset and enjoy food from food trucks and drinks from local vendors. Outside food and drink is prohibited. July 19 - 20, 2019: Historic downtown Venice brings back Christmas in July. While basically a sales promotion, you can catch Santa and Mrs. Claus riding the trolley and visiting the shops. Ride the trolley for free on both days from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. They will also be raffling off 4 large gift baskets and you can pick up your free raffle tickets at many of the participating downtown businesses. The raffle will be done on Tuesday, July 23rd and winners will be contacted. 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Downtown Venice, FL.

July 19 - 21, 2019: Check out the 2nd Back to Angola Festival. On the riverfront, you can learn about our region's rich history of Red Bays, Bahamas and the early 1800's community that was known as Angola, near what is now Bradenton Park. Along with live Bahamian music there will also be wood carvers, basket weavers and food vendors selling Bahamian cuisine among others. Hosted by The Oak Tree Community Outreach, the festival is at Manatee Mineral Springs Park in Bradenton. Free admission. Celebrate their 47th Anniversary of the Triple Crown Dance Sport Event, the first and longest running DanceSport series in the world.
