July 1, 2018:  It's the Sarasota Offshore Boat Races with Superstock & AquaX Races. Live Race Broadcast & Activities from the Sandcastle Resort at Lido Beach. Best Viewing off Lido Beach. Free admission and open to the public.There's also VIP Race Viewing available at the Sandcastle Resort. July 3, 2018: See their biggest fireworks show of their season after the Charlotte Stone Crabs game against Ft. Myers and before the game there will be a pregame Candy Drop, a $20 All-You-Can-Eat Picnic, and live pregame music from musician Tiki Tom! Tickets $8.50 - $25. July 3, 2018: Get some pre-4th sparkle and boom boom! Enjoy music and a spectacular fireworks show with your family. Bring your picnic, blanket or folding chairs. Personal fireworks prohibited. You can bring your own food and drinks, however no glass containers are allowed. A variety of musical groups will perform. Do not bring your dog to this event as the fireworks display may frighten it. July 3, 2018: Enjoy Marauder's Baseball along with Fireworks after the game at LECOM Field in Bradenton. The first 1,500 fans will receive free t-shirts. During the game fans will be able to bid on the patriotically themed jerseys the Marauders wear and winning bidders will be invited onto the field to receive the jersey after the game. July 3 - 4, 2018: The Kids Summer Beach Runs are 1-mile beach runs held every Tuesday (through Aug. 7) at Siesta Beach on Siesta Key near the pavilion, and every Wednesday (through Aug. 8) at Brohard Beach (1600 Harbor Drive) next to the Venice Fishing Pier, near Fins at Sharky's, Venice. For ages 1 - 17, participation ribbons are awarded along with a free ice pop each week. Registration at each location begins at 5:30 p.m. and the beach run starts promptly at 6:30 p.m. Free. The runs are a popular summer event combining exercise and fun. Complete four runs and earn a free custom T-shirt along with other prizes. More at 941-861-5000. July 4, 2018: The 12th Annual Firecracker 5K Run will take place at the Morgan Family Community Center, 6207 West Price Blvd, North Port.  The race will begin at 7:30 a.m. The course is flat, fast, and well-marked with a water station along the 3.1 mile stretch. Early bird pre-registration fee is $20 before 5/31 and $25 after 6/1. Race Day Registration is $30 and will take place at the Morgan Center from 6 a.m. to 7 a.m. Packet Pickup is at the Morgan Center on 7/3 if pre-registered before 6/29 or on 7/4 if registered after 6/29. July 4, 2018: Venice:  A day of fun and music. Check out the 5th annual Myakka River Kayak Festival and 4th of July Jam Blast with kayaking, live music and craft beers. Live musical entertainment will take place from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.. Artists include Treble Hook and Steve Arvey, plus a few more surprises along the way! Performers will bring a unique and powerful Americana/Bluegrass sound to the Snook Haven stage. Kayak and canoe rentals will be available starting at 8 a.m. or you can bring your own. No cover charge for entrance. July 4, 2018: The Choral Artists of Sarasota Present “Patriotic Spectacular,” a salute to Independence Day with rousing songs celebrating America including perennial favorites “God Bless America,” “You’re a Grand Old Flag,” “The Battle Hymn of the Republic,” “America, the Beautiful” and more. July 4, 2018: Have a Grand Old Time and Celebrate America’s Independence Day, The Fourth of July! The Sarasota Suncoast puts on as festive an occasion as anywhere else. During the long holiday weekend there are events and fireworks displays up and down the coast, from beach to shining beach! All fireworks displays start around dusk, of course, and all can be viewed by land as well as some by sea. (Please note: schedules may change and weather conditions may force cancellation of events.) Here's my list of free events and fireworks displays around the Sarasota Suncoast!

July 5, 2018: Sarasota County is looking for volunteers for the 5th Annual Liberty Litter Cleanup. Volunteers will help clean up 7 of the July 4th venues that are utilized the most during the festivities. Cleanup efforts will take place from 7 a.m. - 9 a.m. at Siesta Key, Lido Beach, South Lido Beach, Nokomis Beach, North Jetty Beach and Blind Pass Beach.  All volunteers should report to the Site Captain at their cleaning location. July 6, 2018: Lakewood Ranch presents Music on Main the first Friday of each month from 6 p.m.- 9 p.m.! Live music, beer, wine and food available. Bring your chairs, but leave coolers at home. Dogs are welcome, but must be kept on a short leash. Overflow parking is available at the Lakewood Ranch Medical Center. Lakewood Ranch is off University Parkway east of I-75.

July 6 - 8, 2018:  Get in on the hunt for the 5th Annual Sarasota Lionfish Derby sponsored by and based at Mote Marine Laboratory. Captain's meeting is July 6, Lionfish hunting derby is July 7 offshore from Collier to Escambia Counties. Weigh-in is July 8 at Mote Marie Laboratory and the public is invited. Last year 429 Lionfish were caught and removed from the gulf. Derbies are a way to help divers harvest Lionfish, provide public education and opportunities to taste the delicious Lionfish for free. July 7, 2018: Take the kids to Selby's Splashin Saturdays during July and have fun with water activities, water slides and games in the cool shade and around the lagoon and waterfall of the Children's Rain Forest Garden.  There are also kids' corner activities. July 12 - 14, 2018: Time to LOL! It's the 10th Annual Sarasota Improv Festival when laughter takes over the entire Florida Studio Theatre campus! The Sarasota Improv Festival brings together more than 15 groups of the most creative and inventive improv groups from all across the country and the world to take risks, get raw, and get real on stage in a variety of improv formats. In honor of this milestone Festival, this year there is not one, but THREE, headliners—one for each night of the Festival. Headliners include Impro Madrid, Baby Wants Candy, and Impro Theatre. Our own Florida homegrown troupes will appear and the festival will also feature workshops taught by the professional improvisers attending the festival. Various ticket prices and packages. July 13, 2018: As part of the 10th Anniversary Sarasota Improv Festival, That’s My Song: An Intimate Evening with Dick Smothers will take place in in FST’s Bowne’s Lab Theatre. July 13 - 15, 2018: Check out the 1st ever Back to Angola Festival. On the riverfront, you can learn about our region's rich history of Red Bays, Bahamas and the early 1800s community that was known as Angola, near what is now Bradenton Park. Along with live Bahamian music there will also be wood carvers, basket weavers and food vendors selling Bahamian cuisine among others. Hosted by The Oak Tree Community Outreach, the festival is at Manatee Mineral Springs Park in Bradenton. Free admission. July 19 - 24, 2018: The USA Volleyball Junior Beach Tournament Championships. The 12U and 16U age groups in both genders will compete July 19-21 with titles in the National Open, Region and Patriot Divisions. The 14U and 18U age groups for both genders compete for Open, Region and Patriot Division titles from July 22-24. The tournament expects to feature over 400 boys’ and girls’ teams from across the country ranging in age from 10-18. Crowds will be large for this 6 day tournament. Siesta Key volley ball courts. July 20, 2018: Take in your best chance this year to see the red planet, Mars, with the Local Group of Deep Sky Observers, who will have dozens of telescopes set up, and a special mid-summer "Sidewalk Astronomy" event. See the planet and perhaps learn something new, too! This free viewing event is hosted by the Manatee County Parks and Natural Resources Dept. and Robinson preserve. While basically a sales promotion they will have Santa and Mrs. Claus on hand and participating stores will offer entry forms for a competition to win prizes donated by various member merchants including 4 gifts baskets totaling $1,000. There will also be big sales with over 50 downtown stores and sponsors participating. 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Free Christmas Trolley rides throughout downtown from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m..

July 21, 2018: Celebrate Star Wars night at LECOM Park as the Bradenton Marauders take on the Daytona. Marauders players will wear Star Wars themed jerseys which will be auctioned off for charity during the game. The jerseys will be available for auction online and inside the park during the game where the jerseys are worn. Winning bidders will be allowed onto the field post game to receive the jersey from the player or coach who wore it.
