The July Sarasota Events Calendar has the best of the best fun free (or next to nothing) "happenings" in Sarasota, Florida and around the sun coast.



July 1, 2021 -  August 8, 2021: An international art exhibit designed to proclaim inclusion, respect and kindness debuts at Sarasota-Bradenton’s Nathan Benderson Park. The annual, juried art exhibit is composed by a Sarasota-based arts and education non-profit, Embracing Our Differences (EOD). It consists of 50 billboard-sized works of art, each accompanied by an inspirational quote. The international exhibit uses the power of art and prose to promote diversity and inclusion. The 2021 exhibit brought 15,912 entries from 128 nations, and from 48 U.S. states. The winning quotes and art are showcased in Sarasota’s Bayfront Park every year, from January through March. Thanks to the generosity of the Charles & Margery Barancik Foundation, the public will have another opportunity to see this exhibit. July 2, 2021: Canceled TFN due to COVID. Lakewood Ranch presents Music on Main the first Friday of each month from 6 p.m.- 9 p.m.! Live music, beer, wine and food available. Bring your chairs, but leave coolers at home. Dogs are welcome, but must be kept on a short leash. Overflow parking is available at the Lakewood Ranch Medical Center. Lakewood Ranch is off University Parkway east of I-75.

July 3, 2021: Start off your 4th of July weekend at the Sarasota Farmers Market! Celebrate Independence Day weekend with featured non-profits, Vendor specials for Veterans and Active Duty Military, more than 70 market vendors, and the long-awaited return of the Sarasota Jazz Project! July 3, 3021: It's the “Suncoast Summer Fest” Boat Fun Run on Sarasota Bay. 11a.m. - 4 p.m. Registration and more details here. (All boats must preregister by June 1, 2021 or until the run is sold out.). The official fun run begins at 11 am and goes til 4:00 pm. Boats who have already checked-in will be able to start from any of the official stops listed and must stop at five stops to collect their card draw chips. Cash prizes and awards. Various entry fees. July 3, 2021: It's NBP Rec Days! A great way to get on the water, family-style! Participants will have the opportunity to try stand-up paddle boarding, kayaking, canoes, fishing and more. Fee is $10 per person. $5 per adult with accompanying child. Free for children ages 6 and younger  Family maximum: $35 (for households of five or more). All must complete the waiver forms.  Fishing licenses are required for all participants 14 and older who choose to fish. NBP Rec Days! are held at the base of the finish tower on Regatta Island. Depending on events, however, they may move to the west shore, near the playground. July 3, 2021:  Nathan Benderson Park’s annual July 3 tradition, NBP Fireworks On The Lake returns. There will also be food, exhibitors, live music, a 4-mile run, family fun and fireworks. The event is free to the public, but because of positive response to designated parking at the 2020 show, parking is ticketed. Family fun on Regatta Island returns with two live bands. The Black Honkeys will bring a compelling mix of Motown, funk, rock and more, and the Derek Lersch Band plays modern country sounds. A DJ will fill out the evening’s music. Also returning for this year is the Kids Zone, a fun, safe, controlled environment for children to play games and enjoy activities. Runners and walkers alike will enjoy the annual Fireworks 4-Miler On The Lake. The race course winds around the park’s Cooper Creek Lake. The Fireworks will begin at 9 p.m. July 3 at the park and WWSB ABC 7, will televise the fireworks as the finale of its Independence Day special at 9 p.m. Sunday, July 4.Tickets will be sold beginning June 16, 2021. July 3, 2021: As part of your holiday weekend enjoy an outdoor concert by Bandana at the South Venice Civic Association. Food, beer, wine, soda and water available for sale; no coolers permitted. Bring your own chair. July 3 - 4, 2021: Part of the Suncoast Summer Fest, check out A “Celebration In The Park,” organized by the Sarasota Downtown Enrichment Association, is scheduled to take place in J.D. Hamel Park. July 4, 2021: Have a Grand Old Time and Celebrate America’s Independence Day, The Fourth of July! The Sarasota Suncoast puts on as festive an occasion as anywhere else. During the long holiday weekend there are events and fireworks displays up and down the coast, from beach to shining beach! All fireworks displays start around dusk, of course, and all can be viewed by land as well as some by sea. (Please note: schedules may change and weather conditions may force cancellation of events.) Here's my list of free events and fireworks displays around the Sarasota Suncoast!

July 4, 2020: Venice: TBA for 2021. Check out the 7th annual Myakka River Kayak Festival with kayaking, live music and craft beers. Kayak rentals will be offered by the hour. Receive a one-hour "bounce back" with your rental. Basically, it's buy an hour, get one free! Must be redeemed by July 31st. Raise your glass to $1 off all draft beers. Grilling out all day with gator burgers, brats, hot dogs, hamburgers & corn on the cob available in the spirit of the 4th. Live entertainment, too! Steve Arvey will be playing onstage from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Please note that all social distancing and sanitation measures will be enforced. Tables will be spaced at least 6 feet apart, and live entertainment will play a minimum of 6 feet away from the nearest table. At this time, dancing is not permitted. July 4, 2021: Celebrate the Fourth of July with The Choral Artists of Sarasota as they present American Fanfare with rousing songs celebrating America including perennial favorites. A patriotic concert full of choral fireworks celebrating America, the American Dream - liberty and justice for all - forms the cornerstone of this annual performance. The Lakewood Ranch Wind Ensemble joins Choral Artists for the first time, performing Sousa marches to complement the program. July 4, 2021: The Marauders are away so no fireworks show for 2021. As All-American as it gets: Baseball and fireworks! Take in the Marauder's Baseball game along with Fireworks after the game at LECOM Field. Gates open at 4:30 p.m., game time at 5:30 p.m. against the Clearwater Threshers and a post-game fireworks show. The first 1,500 fans will receive free t-shirts. July 4, 2021: Plans have been announced  to hold a July 4th parade along the Sarasota Bayfront, as part of Sun coast Summer Fest’s “Celebrate Sarasota.” The parade will pay tribute to veterans, first responders,  medical  professionals, and front line workers. The parade will begin at 8 pm starting at Mound St. (U.S. 41) and Orange Ave. ending at  Bayfront Drive (U.S. 41) and Main St. (J.D. Hamel Park) . Designated areas for public viewing will be marked along the parade route.

July 4, 2021: The Sarasota Bayfront Fireworks, organized by Suncoast Charities for Children in partnership with Marina Jack, will follow the July 4 Sarasota Bayfront Parade to close out the evening celebration around dark. Following the parade, and preceding the Sarasota Bayfront Fireworks display, this season’s American Idol local breakout star Alana Sherman will be performing our National Anthem.

July 5, 2021:  Sarasota County is looking for volunteers for the 7th Annual Liberty Litter Cleanup. Volunteers will focuses on area beaches hit hardest by the July 4th celebrations. Cleanup efforts will take place from 7 a.m. - 9 a.m. at Siesta Key, Lido Beach, South Lido Beach, Nokomis Beach, North Jetty Park, Venice Beach and Blind Pass Beach & Park. July 6 - 7, 2021: One of the Annual Summer Events in Sarasota: The Kids Summer Beach Runs are 1-mile beach runs held every Tuesday (through July 27) at Siesta Beach on Siesta Key near the pavilion, and every Wednesday (through July 28) at Brohard Beach (1600 Harbor Drive) next to the Venice Fishing Pier, near Fins at Sharky's, Venice. This one-mile fun run for kids is a summer favorite and a great opportunity for families to exercise together and have fun at the beach! Weekly registration begins at 5:30 p.m. with race time at 6:30 p.m. Kids receive a participation ribbon at each run. Complete four runs and earn a free custom t-shirt. (More at 941-861-5000. July 9, 2021: It's the Free Music Friday Night Concert. Grab a mask and enjoy the music and fun in downtown's Centennial Park. Free and open to the public.7 p.m. - 9 p.m. Bring your lawn chair or blanket for seating. COVID-19 safety plan is in place! They are asking family and friend groups to limit to a maximum of 6 people sitting together or less. Attendees are REQUIRED TO WEAR A MASK during the entire concert. Everyone is asked to remain socially distant and follow CDC guidelines for safety.

July 9 - 11, 2021: The largest-ever national championship regatta in the sport of dragon boat paddling will be the sole American qualifier for the 2022 International Dragon Boat Federation Club Crew World Championships. This is also a great opportunity to expose the sport to our area residents, and maybe inspire some to get up, get out and join one of our community dragon boat program at Nathan Benderson Park. July 10, 2021: It's the Sarasota International Dragon Boat Festival. Everyone ages 12+ are invited to take part. Gather 20 of your friends, co-workers, church friends, family, etc. and form a team! Boats, life-vests, paddles and coaches are provided...you provide the fun! Race distances include 200m and 500m events for Sport and Community Division teams, with the addition of the ever-thrilling 2k pursuit for Sport Division teams only. July 10 - 12, 2020: TBA for 2021. Florida Studio Theatre will present an online improv festival the same weekend its annual Sarasota Improv Festival was slated to take place: Held completely online, this Festival features workshops, shows, and interviews with established improvisers from around the world, including Joe Bill (a founding member of Chicago’s Annoyance Theater), Craig Cackowski (Quartet, Orange Tuxedo), and Gael Perry (French improv troupe, La Carpe Haute). Shows and interviews can be accessed for free on the Sarasota Improv Festival’s Facebook page. Workshops will be conducted over Zoom and cost $30 each. July 19 - 21, 2019: TBA for 2021. They may perhaps hold this fest in the fall of 2021. Check out the 2nd Back to Angola Festival. On the riverfront, you can learn about our region's rich history of Red Bays, Bahamas and the early 1800's community that was known as Angola, near what is now Bradenton Park. Along with live Bahamian music there will also be wood carvers, basket weavers and food vendors selling Bahamian cuisine among others. Hosted by The Oak Tree Community Outreach, the festival is at Manatee Mineral Springs Park in Bradenton. Free admission. July 20 - 25, 2021: It's the US Youth Soccer National Championships at Premier Sports Campus. This caps a yearlong series of competitions for boys and girls teams in multiple age brackets as teams earn their way from the top teams in their state to the regional championship tournaments. July 24 - 25, 2021: It's the 10th Annual Mystic Faire featuring everything metaphysical. Billed as the largest psychic fair in southwest Florida it will feature over 75 exhibitors and more than 25 psychics. Hear free lecturers and see psychics, healers and vendors of many kinds.
