The Waterfront Too Grill and Steakhouse for Steaks, Seafood, Cocktails and more

The Waterfront Too Grill and Steakhouse is a delightful place for some good food with a warm and inviting dining room and it’s not far away, just south of Sarasota on Rt. 41 in Nokomis. Worth a short drive from anywhere in the area, really. Marker 20 by water.

Having been here several times over the years, I don’t know why this dining establishment hasn’t made our review pages earlier.

The service is friendly and fast, but they don’t rush you.

The menu is varied and not overly creative, with what you would expect from a “steakhouse,” although they refer to themselves as a “grille and steakhouse.” But you will find Roast Duck and Rack of Lamb! More on that below.

One of the all-stars of a meal at the Waterfront Too Grill and Steakhouse is their Beer Rolls, served with every Entrée. These are a delight. Tasty and served warm, I would describe them more as “muffins” than “rolls.” They really hit the spot as an accompaniment.

My most recent visit was to take advantage of their Sunset Specials menu (Every day except holidays). Other places it’s known as the “Early Bird.” Here at the Waterfront Too it’s from 4 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.

I arrived at 5 p.m. and was promptly seated and attended to. I put in my drink order, an Amber Bock Beer on draft, at Happy Hour prices! ($2).

I perused their menu while sipping my Amber Bock and enjoying the fresh, warm Beer Rolls.

A nice selection, at reduced prices, was available on their Sunset Specials menu. From slow roasted Prime Rib ($16.95) to Atlantic Salmon ($14.95) to Boneless Pork Loin Chops ($13.95) and Shish-Kabob ($14.95) with Filet Medallions.

Since it was a rain-out for steaks on the grill this particular evening I opted for their Top Sirloin Steak, a 10 oz hand cut and grilled steak. I ordered mine “medium” with a side of rice pilaf.

While I was waiting for the entrée I was brought a nice dinner salad, just the way I like it, cold, on a chilled plate, crisp and fresh and I had requested a Greek Vinaigrette salad dressing. The dressing had just the right amount of flavor and tanginess for my taste buds.

Shortly, I was presented with the main course, the Top Sirloin. It looked bigger that 10 oz to me, but who am I to judge? It actually looked like a whole tenderloin in length and width.

Grilled exactly how I requested, medium, it had a nice pink color in the center and it was nicely grilled and charred on the outside. (Just a tip; usually the sirloin steaks are thick. If you like it rare, you might ask them to cook it medium, and so forth.)

I requested a small cup of Au Jus and it was quickly delivered by my server. I splashed the hot juice over the steak and over the rice pilaf. Yummy.

A delicious meal, quickly enjoyed, in a lovely dining room, tables not too closely together, so one could have privacy while dining alone, yet still enjoy the ambience of the room.

In the past I’ve enjoyed their Atlantic Salmon and Pork Chops entrées with equally delicious results.

Here’s a tip. The Waterfront Too Grill and Steakhouse’s Sunset Specials menu (Every day except holidays) features BBQ Baby Back Ribs on Tuesdays for $13.95 (4 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.).

The Waterfront Too Grill and Steakhouse’s normal dinner menu features entrées and prices ranging from Jumbo Shrimp ($12.95) to Prime Rib ($23.95) to Grouper ($19.95), as well as Rack of Lamb ($26.95), Roasted Half Duck ($25.95) and New Zealand Cold Water Lobster Tail (12 oz  $33.95 / 1 lb $41.95).

For the prompt, friendly service to the pleasant dining accommodations and wide ranging menu and delicious results I would suggest you give the Waterfront Too a try.

They also have a bar, an outdoor covered deck on which to enjoy a drink or a meal and a water view overlooking one of the waterways in Nokomis, making for a picturesque view.

Enjoy!
