October 1- 31, 2022: Are there ghosts in Sarasota? Find out for yourself on a guided, dark and creepy, 75-minute Sarasota ghost walk. Experience the spirited and sinister side of Sarasota on this one-of-a-kind walking tour to learn more about the area and some of the residents who still call it home – many, many, many years later. October 1 - 31, 2022. Check out the Spooktacular Ghost Tour. If you’re looking for something truly unique, take the Haunted History Tour. This 75 minute tour is packed with history and ghost stories. We’ll also share ghost hunting tips and tricks. Hear live audio of a disembodied voice in a local Venice building. October 8, 2022: Manatee Village Historical Park is hosting “Tombstone Tour,” a free, staff-led tour of the historic cemetery. Learn about the history of the cemetery, the meaning of tombstone symbols, and listen to some of the stories of those who were buried there.The 1850 Manatee Burying Ground is the oldest public cemetery in Manatee County. Each staff member will be giving a unique tour and the public will be able to reserve spots in advance. During the hour-long tour, guests will explore different facets of Manatee County’s history while being guided by a staff member. October 8 - 9, 2022: The 34th Annual Fruitville Grove Pumpkin Fest features hay rides, pony rides, pumpkin painting, face painting, mini train rides, a petting zoo and more. Lots of Halloween decorations for sale, too, from scarecrows to hay bales. Admission, Parking, Petting zoo, playground, live music, and decorated photo spots are FREE! Individual rides and game activity booth, including pony rides, unicorn encounter, hug a goat and pumpkin painting, has their own set price ranging from $1 – $10. Children’s Costume Contest every Saturday at 2 p.m. in front of the animal barn and free to participate in. Torres Family Circus and Extreme Riders Free daily showtimes each weekend 11:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. While some vendor booths may accept cards, many are cash only so please be prepared. October 12, 2022: Postponed. To be rescheduled. Check out Transformative Mourning! Mourning during the Victorian era was a ritualized and necessary process to effectively grieve loved ones but, like many other aspects, the bloodshed caused by the American Civil War changed how mourning was carried out. From dog tags to embalming, many of the changes forced by the Civil War are still felt today and show how people adapt even in the most devastating circumstances to find a meaning in loss. Manatee Village Historical Park Supervisor Krystin Miner will present "Transformative Mourning: How the Civil War Changed Mourning" ectures are held in the Wiggins Store Conference Room and will begin at 3 p.m. Seating is limited on a first come basis. October 14, 2022: The 20th annual Goblin Gathering is an annual event hosted by Manatee County Parks and Natural Resources and held at GT Bray Park. $5 (cash only) WRISTBANDS are sold for entrance to the hay maze, bounce, slide and crawl over the inflatables and have face painted. BEAT THE LINES: Wristbands will be on sale at the GT Bray Park front desk, beginning October 7 (no refunds or replacements will be issued). Cash-only at event entrance on event day (October 14). A costume contest will be held in the following categories: 1 year and under, 2 to 4 years old, 5 to 8 years old, 9 and older and families. Three winners will be chosen for each category. Those interested can sign up at the stage between 5:30 to 6:15 p.m. Judging begins at 6:30 p.m. on stage. October 14 - 31, 2022: You're invited “Lights at Spooky Point,” which features an array of fantastic creatures and cute creations designed with lights along an eerily lit path through the woods at the preserve and outdoor museum of Historic Spanish Point. Visitors also will see familiar historic sites like Mary’s Chapel and the Pioneer Graveyard in a mysterious (but not too scary) new light during this event for all ages. There will be a one-way path from the Welcome Center Gazebo through several popular areas on the Historic Spanish Point bathed in the glow of orange, purple, and red lights. Along the way, guests will encounter flying “ghost orchids,” webs with “spider orchids,” giant “bat orchids,” vine-twisted skeletons, plenty of pumpkins, and other surprises. This nighttime walk through the woods will finish at a hay maze before guests return to the gazebo to exit.Selby Gardens will offer two entry times each evening for Lights at Spooky Point: 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., and 7:45 to 8:45 p.m. A limited number of tickets will be available for each entry time and must be purchased in advance, either through the Selby Gardens website or at the Welcome Center on either campus. Ticket prices are $20 for Selby Gardens members, $25 for non-members, $15 for ages 5 to 17, and free for children 4 and under. Food, beverages, and other items will be sold separately on site. October 15, 2022: Something is brewing at The Children’s Garden's Witches Tea! This event is a ghostly delight of Halloween-inspired tea sandwiches and sweet and bubbling tea. Decorate your magical wand and visit their potion table. Tickets go on sale September 13th (and they go quickly, as broom parking is limited!) Come have a wicked good time! October 20, 2022: It's the Manatee County Sheriff's Office Sheriff's Spooktactical Night! It's a Spooktactical evening of family fun at the Manatee County Sheriff's Office Operations Center! MCSO Units and community partners will have vehicles on display, demonstrations, activities for kids, free food, and trick or treating at each unit's station. October 21 2022: It's the Arlington Park and Aquatic Complex Haunted Trail Carnival complete with frightfully fun games, tricks and treats and a haunted trail carnival. Enjoy carnival style games along the half mile walking trail, a costume contest, face painting and more. Perfect for ages 2 - 13. Children under 5 must be accompanied by an adult. October 21 - 22, 2022: Canceled. It's the 10th Annual Halloween Haunted Trails at Oscar Scherer State Park offers an event that is fun for the whole family. Featuring multiple stations along the parks dark haunted roadway trail full of props with plenty of scare. A frightfully fun family event featuring: Haunted Trail winds along the dark, haunted road to a terrifying Haunted House for those who truly dare to be scared. If you make it to the end of the road, Nokomis Volunteer Fire Department will be there to ramp up the scare. There's also a fun kids area and Lil' Monster Manor.There are plenty of treats and sweets along the Trick or Treat Trail with Osprey Nokomis Chamber of Commerce businesses to sweeten the fun. October 21 - 25, 2019: TBD for 2022. The SCF Venice Pop Culture Club Hosts its 12th Annual Haunted House, "Seasons of Fright." It seems that Halloween isn’t the only holiday with scare-power. In “Seasons of Fright” at SCF Venice, the fictional stars of other holidays (think the Easter Bunny and Cupid) will get a nightmarish makeover. Parents should be aware that even though there is not an age recommendation for the haunted house, it may not be appropriate for younger children. Tickets will be sold at the door for $3 (cash only). October 22, 2022: Bring the whole family to Ed Smith Stadium for a Spooktacular Halloween-themed movie shown on the outfield video board. Attendees can enjoy a screening of the 2017 film Coco from the Ed Smith Stadium outfield or ballpark seats beginning at 7:00 p.m. Prior to the movie, attendees are invited to participate in a costume parade led by the Oriole Bird. The event will also feature concessions, various activities, children’s games, and photo opportunities. Bring your blanket to watch from the stadium seating. Coolers are not permitted. October 27 - 29, 2022: The Players Centre for Performing Arts is proud to present the 6th annual Legend of Sleepy Hollow at The Sarasota Polo Club. This family-friendly, spooky, festive play about Ichabod Crane, the object of his affection Katrina, his rival Brom Bones, and of course, one of the most famous ghosts in America, the Headless Horseman has become a Halloween Favorite in Sarasota. Sleepy Hollow is known for its many ghost stories and the towns people that love to tell them, but the most prominent specter haunting the region is The Headless Horseman. *Please bring your own chairs and/or blankets, this is an outdoor event. October 28, 2022: It's been announced that BooFest is officially back on Lakewood Ranch's Main Street! The family-friendly fun includes entertainment, food and drink vendors, and more. October 28 - 30, 2022: Jiggs Landing turns into the "HAUNTED FISH CAMP." See Jiggs himself come back just for Halloween and other scary creatures lurking in the pavilion. Even the kid's play area is spooky. The giant wolf spider may be seen on the giant web. Tales of Halloween from the 1940s will be shared around the fire. Smores can be eaten under the night sky. October 29, 2022: The 19th Annual Boo Run is a family oriented 5K run or walk. There is also a Virtual 5K Run or Walk. Exciting changes this year with a brand new certified 5k course in Lakewood Ranch! In-Person Option - Saturday, October 29th - 5k run or walk with pups at 8:05 am 5k run or walk with Humans starts at 8:00 am., Boo Dash starts at 7:30 a.m. Your race entry includes a chip-timed 5k, bib, finisher medal, and race shirt. October 29, 2022: It's their 2nd Annual Halloween at the Farm with free Halloween Trunk or Treat event at Inverness Farm. October 29, 2022: The 14th Annual Sarasota Dog-A-Ween costume contest returns to the Sarasota Farmers Market Halloween Festival. All proceeds benefit the Donte’s Den Foundation. Guest moderator: Tyler Butler with Out & About. After the event dogs in costume can go to Wet Noses with their human to pick out a free toy donated by Wet Noses. This super fun event will kick off at the AMI Chamber of Commerce, 5313 Gulf Drive in Holmes Beach. October 31, 2022: It's the Children's Costume and Halloween Parade in downtown Venice in Centennial Park. Meet at the Gazebo at 4 p.m. Children must be accompanied by an adult.Parade line up is at 4:30 p.m. The parade down West Venice Avenue will begin promptly at 5pm led by the Lions Club of Venice float and members.More than 500 children are expected to receive candy treats from its members.
