Here's my annual list of Sarasota Halloween Events, Haunted Houses and Festivals around the sun coast area. Have Fun!

Due to coronavirus many events are on hold or decisions have not been made yet as to whether the event will go on as scheduled, be canceled or postponed. All dates, times and events are subject to change, cancellation or postponement by organizers due to coronavirus. Before making any major plans check with event organizers to confirm date of event. The Calendar is updated as information is made available. Updated and current information is very difficult to come by as organizations don't know what to do.



October 1- 31, 2020: Are there ghosts in Sarasota? Find out for yourself on a guided, dark and creepy, 75-minute Sarasota ghost walk. Experience the spirited and sinister side of Sarasota on this one-of-a-kind walking tour to learn more about the area and some of the residents who still call it home – many, many, many years later. Hear the haunting tales and feel the chill in the air. Boo! Reservations required – Parental discretion is advised – not recommended for small children. October 10, 2020: Sarasota County has elected not to hold this event in 2020. Makes some plans to come out for the 5th annual Howl-O-Ween Movie night Spooktacular shown on the Ed Smith Stadium outfield video board. Bring the whole family to Ed Smith Stadium for spooktacular Halloween fun including children’s games and activities, photo ops, costume parade and a family-friendly Halloween-themed movie shown on the outfield video board. Bring your blanket to watch from stadium seating. Concessions available. Coolers are not permitted. Open to all ages. Children 14 and under must be accompanied by an adult. October 11, 2019: Due to COVID-19 all Historic Spanish Point campus 2020 events are on hold/TBD this fall. Are you brave enough to dare to explore Historic Spanish Point in the moonlight on their Full Moon walking ghost tour? Hear stories of intrigue and mystery about Sarasota and Florida history as you visit the historic houses, prehistoric burial mound and pioneer cemetery of Historic Spanish Point. Tours start at the Gazebo, and are 1.5 hours in length. 7 p.m, 8 p.m., 9 p.m. $20 per person. Historic Spanish Point, 337 N. Tamiami Tr., Osprey, FL.

October 12, 2019: Canceled for 2020. Enjoy a Halloween Candlelight Tour at Gamble Mansion Historic State Park.This is a family friendly event with children receiving treats at the end of the tour. Halloween costumes are encouraged, but NO SCARY OR BLOODY costumes will be allowed. Visitors will tour the mansion by candlelight and see its many rooms decked out in the Halloween spirit. 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. Tickets for this event are $8.00 per person and are available on line only, kids 6 - 12 $5. October 16, 2020: Have fun at the 18th Annual Goblin Gathering in conjunction with National Night Out at Manatee Counties' G.T. Bray Park as a drive-through only event in 2020. Please enter at 51st Street and exit at 59th Street. Drive-through participation and trick-or-treating is free. Several local businesses will be participating by passing out “treats & sweets” to participants, providing a safe alternative for children to trick-or-treat. October 16 - November 1, 2020: Manatee Village Historical Park is hosting “Tombstone Tour,” a digital event about the 1850 Manatee Burying Ground. Learn about the history of the cemetery, the meaning of tombstone symbols, and listen to some of the stories of those who were buried there. The 1850 Manatee Burying Ground is the oldest public cemetery in Manatee County. This event is digital and will be sent to the email addresses of those who sign up to receive the digital event. October 18, 2019: Canceled for 2020. It's a Night of Fun, Fish & Fright at Mote Aquarium. Kids of all ages are invited to dress up in costume. Unearth shark teeth in “Coffin Creek," enjoy deep sea delights in the “Diner of the Dead." October 18, 2019:  Due to COVID-19 all Historic Spanish Point campus 2020 events are on hold/TBD this fall. Get ready for an  “Eerie Evening” of stories as you walk among Historic Spanish Point’s historic houses, ancient mounds, and their pioneer cemetery. This exclusive October-only event features  paranormal investigations by the Paranormal Society of Bradenton. There will be three tours each evening. The tours will meet at the white Gazebo on the Historic Spanish Point site and each tour will last approximately 90 minutes and will be roughly a ¾ of a mile walk outdoors with some pathways up and down stairs. 7 p.m., 8 p.m., 9 p.m. Repeats on 10/25/19. October 21 - 25, 2019: TBD for 2020. The SCF Venice Pop Culture Club Hosts its 12th Annual Haunted House, "Seasons of Fright." It seems that Halloween isn’t the only holiday with scare-power. In “Seasons of Fright” at SCF Venice, the fictional stars of other holidays (think the Easter Bunny and Cupid) will get a nightmarish makeover. Parents should be aware that even though there is not an age recommendation for the haunted house, it may not be appropriate for younger children. Tickets will be sold at the door for $3 (cash only). A percentage of the proceeds will benefit Safe Place and Rape Crisis Center (SPARCC), a nonprofit agency in Sarasota that serves victims of domestic and sexual violence and promotes a violence-free community through awareness and education. 10/21-10/24: 7 p.m. - 10 p.m.,10/25: 7 p.m. - 11 p.m. State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF), Lakeside Pavilion at SCF Venice, 8000 S. October 24, 2020: It's a Halloween Celebration featuring a "Spooky Clue Hunt!" The Children's Garden and Art Center is sending everyone off on a Spooky Clue Hunt to get your yummy trick-or-treat bag!  Then they are masking up for their Halloween Craft: Draw your best jack-o-lantern on an orange face mask and add a sparkly vine & leaf to complete the look!  Come listen to ghostly stories at the stage at 11:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m. & 3:00 p.m.  This fun family event is included in admission with a portion of the proceeds to benefit All Faiths Food Bank. October 24, 2019: TBD for 2020. State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) will host the "Haunted House of Hoops." The night begins with "Trunk or Treat," which is like 'Trick or Treating' from car-to-car, presented by the SCF Circle K Club. Haunted House of Hoops will also feature a costume contest, games for attendees of all ages, a dunk contest, a haunted hallway and a scrimmage. This event is a great way to meet the SCF Manatees basketball team as they start their season. Food and beverages will be available for sale from Nana Nif's Home Cooking and Kona Ice food trucks. October 25, 2019: Canceled for 2020. Check out the Halloween Trail Carnival at Arlington Park and Aquatic Complex. Enjoy carnival games, costume contest and parade, face painting, and much more. Perfect for ages 2 to 13. Children under the age of 5 years old must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Free family friendly event. Take in the 7th Annual Haunted Trails of Oscar Scherer State Park if you dare!  A spooky haunted trail for those who dare to be scared and a trick-or-treat trail for the younger or more cautious! Lots of activities for kids, costume prizes, food, spooky sounds and more! A frightfully fun time for the howl family! Adults 13+ $10. October 25 - 26, 2019: TBD for 2020. You're invited to the 2019 Swamp Spooktacular at Crowley Museum & Nature Center, presented by The Florida Skunk Ape Project! Guests will go on a spooky adventure through the wilderness, with campfire stories of Sasquatch and paranormal activities. Plus there will be attempts to communicate with a ghost from our historic houses and search the skies for UFOs. This event will include tarot card readings, psychics, witches, ufologist, and Skunk Ape experts. This is a family friendly event, that takes place over the course of TWO days. 6 p.m. - 11 p.m. Admission is $15 an adult per a day. VIP camping is $100 for the weekend. October 26, 2019: Canceled for 2020. It's a Pumpkin Splash! Come take a swim and pick out your favorite pumpkin from a Floating Pumpkin Patch and then decorate or carve your pumpkin! October 26 -  27, 2019: TBD for 2020. Have a roaring fun time and Celebrate Wild-O-Ween at the Big Cat Habitat! It's a Family Friendly, Non Scary Halloween event. Lots of fun including: Face Painting Fun, Hay Bale seek and Find, "Mommy" Wrapping contest, Kid's Costume Contest, Paint a Pumpkin and loads of yummy candy! 12 p.m. - 4 p.m. Adults: $18.00, Kids ( 3-13) $8.00. October 26 - 30, 2020: It's the Siesta Key Chamber of Commerce Pumpkin Carving Contest. Submit a photo of your carved pumpkin to: events@siestakeychamber.com. Categories are: Adult, Child (under 12), and Chamber's Choice. Prizes for each category. Winners will be announced October 30th at  3 pm by website and Facebook. More info: 941-349-3800.

October 27, 2019: Due to COVID-19 all Selby Garden events are on hold/TBD this fall. Enjoy the Selby Gardens Spooktacular with the whole family. With fun and not too scary festivities, bring your camera for pictures of your costumed family! There will be Trick or Treating, pumpkin decorating, and fun educational activities for all. 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. Members: Free, Member's Guests: $10. October 27, 2019: The Italian American Club of venice is Closed until further notice due to COVID-19. The Italian American Club of Venice hosts a Children's Halloween Bash for kids 10 and under. Child must be accompanied by an adult. There will be food, fun, prizes and Treats, not Tricks! 1 p.m. - 3 p.m. Costumers ARE required. October 27, 2020: A new Halloween tradition will proceed this year, but with precautions in mind. Nathan Benderson Park’s second annual NBP Trick Or Treat On The Lake. This year, social distancing and other precautions help ensure safety amid the ongoing pandemic. Candy stations will be spread out along a longer route on the park’s northwest shore to ensure social distancing. To help ensure pedestrian safety, World Championship Drive on the park’s west side will be closed to car traffic.  Pedestrians will walk into the park from the Regatta Island parking lot and from the green parking lot beside the SCAT transfer. here will be volunteers at the park entries, regulating the number of families to ensure social distancing along the candy route. station. 6 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. on the park’s west shore. October 29 - 31, 2020: This Halloween, local artists Dave Gordon and Elln Hagney, will transform the cul-de-sac in front of their home into a free family-friendly drive-through Halloween experience titled Halloween on S. Lime Ave! Over fourteen separate technology-art-based Halloween scenes will feature: Projection mapped experiences, Custom created animatronics, Kinetic sculptures, Lighting, Special effects, Sound effects and more. Highlights include three projection mapped experiences, fire breathing pumpkins, glowing spider eggs, robots, flying ghosts and more. There are also swamp monsters engaged in an epic battle with pumpkin men and a ghoul’s garden filled with light up skull flowers, oversized mushrooms and a creepy caterpillar smoking a hookah. They also invite you to help them create their Western Style Cemetery. For a $25.00 contribution, participants can provide a funny name or the name of someone they know and the artists will add it to a new stone in the graveyard. October 30, 2020: It's the Once in a Blue Moon 3 MASKerade Halloween Party. Wear your costume and mask for this OUTDOOR OPEN AIR Soiree. October 30, 2020: It's the 20th Annual Clancy's Halloween Party and Costume Contest. October 31, 2020: Originally canceled due to COVID-19, they've decided to go forward with the event but safety comes first.The 17th Annual Boo Run is a family oriented 5K run. The race begins at 7:45 a.m.at Nathan Benderson Park. Your race entry includes socially distanced in-person chip timed 5k, bib, finisher medal, Boo Run Buff and race pictures. October 31, 2020: The pet costume contest and parade is Canceled for 2020 but the Farmer's Market will take place. The Bradenton Farmers’ Market is hosting Howl’ween, a pet costume contest and parade on Old Main Street. Watch as lines of pooches strut down Old Main Street in Halloween costumes with their owners. Owners are encouraged to dress up too! There will be a special prize for best owner and pet costumes. Sign up is 10 a.m.; pet parade at 10:30 a.m.; judging at 11 a.m.  The market, located on Old Main Street, between Manatee Ave. W. and Third Avenue West in downtown Bradenton, is open every Saturday through the end of May, 9 a.m.–2 p.m. (941) 621-6471. October 31, 2020: Come Trick or Treat at The Bazaar where you can enjoy interactive experiences from 21 Century Shakespeare Theatre company. Every hour they will be performing Halloween inspired skits outside in the courtyard;  "Let's Create Art:" is hosting a coloring contest with prizes. October 31, 2020: As Selby Gardens makes adjustments due to COVID-19, their traditional Selby Gardens Annual Spooktacular event will not take place this year. However, visit the Downtown Sarasota campus and Historic Spanish Point Campus in Osprey in costume on Halloween-October 31, and all children 12 years and younger dressed in costume will receive a goodie bag filled with safely wrapped Halloween-themed treats, while supplies last! Guests are invited to enjoy the grounds and gardens in costume. 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Admission to the Downtown Sarasota campus is $20 for adults; children ages 5 to 17 are $10; and children four and under are FREE. October 31, 2020: It's the15th Annual Boo Fest Halloween Festival at Lakewood Ranch will take place after all. NEW format, time, and location for 2020! They are excited to announce that they will be having BooFest this year after all, but in a smaller capacity, and organized in a socially distanced  at the Premier Sports Campus. The attendance will be capped at 250 people, and this venue will allow them to provide a large area to ensure social distancing, one entrance/exit so they're able to restrict the number of attendees, and by having it in the daylight, reduce the chances of crowding and extra interaction. The Art & Soul Performing Arts stage will be home to dance performances, a ventriloquist show, and Spheres Bubble show, as seen on America's Got Talent! The field in front of the Performing Arts stage will have pre-drawn “circles” for groups to congregate in a safe way. October 31, 2019: Canceled for 2020. Goblins and Ghouls take over Anna Maria Island on Halloween. "Trail of Treats" starts with a kid's costume contest at the Anna Maria Island Chamber office. Afterwards, enjoy safe trick or treating at participating businesses in all three island cites. A list of participating businesses can be picked up at the Chamber office. October 31, 2020: It's the SJF Mask Parade. The Suncoast Jeep Festival will provide safe socially distanced trick or treating. There will be costume contests for kids and adults. There will be a contest for best decorated Jeep/Vehicle and best overall theme along with raffle prizes, food trucks and more. All proceeds go to The Academy at Glengary.
