October 2, 2019: The Phillippi Farmhouse Market is back and it features locally grown fruits and vegetables, including local USDA certified organic produce and hydroponics. There will be plants, herbs, hanging baskets, shrubs and cut flowers for sale along with a wide variety of locally baked goods, delicious barbecue, plenty of food and beverage vendors, arts and crafts, soaps and candles and always live music. 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. every Wednesday, October through April. 5500 S. October 3, 2019: Get groovin' in the courtyard at Ringling Underground where you can enjoy live music in the Museum of Art Courtyard. An eclectic mix of local and regional live music is featured in the series. Plus check out up and coming artists with select galleries open until 11 p.m. 8 p.m. - 11 p.m.  Admission: $15. October 4, 2019: Lakewood Ranch presents Music on Main the first Friday of each month from 6 p.m.- 9 p.m. Live music, beer, wine and food available. The HeadTones, St. Petersburg’s Funk and Soul Sextet, will fill the air with Funk & Soul music and the deejay will keep you dancing with today’s Top 100 hits; the event will benefit the Healthy Start Coalition of Sarasota County. Bring your chairs, but leave coolers at home. Dogs are welcome, but must be kept on a short leash. Overflow parking is available at the Lakewood Ranch Medical Center. October 4, 2019: Is your dog the Top Dog? Check out the 2019 Top Dog Show, "Doggies Do Disco." It's a Westminster type dog show. Dinner, dancing, dog competitions and lots of surprises.The theme is Doggies Do Disco, so wear your Disco dancing clothes. $125.00. October 4, 2019: Join Venice Institute for Performing Arts and Venice MainStreet, Inc. for  the Gazebo Starlight Cinema series with the showing of  Book of Life. Movies start at sundown in downtown Venice's Centennial Park. October 4 - 5, 2019: Check out the Business Showcase (formerly Consumer Expo) with more than 100 businesses participating along with door prizes, health screenings and more. $100 giveaways 5 times per day. October 4 - 6, 2019: There's a Gem, Jewelry & Bead Show with lots on display to see from dealers from around the country selling gems, jewelry, beads, crystals and more. Adults $5. 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Sarasota Municipal Auditorium, 801 N. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota.

October 5, 2019: It's the “Fish For United Way” tournament benefiting the region’s United Ways and hosted by Florida Power and Light Company. Anglers can cast their lines in the 4,000-acre cooling reservoir, also known as Lake Parrish, that serves the FPL Plant. Home to bass, crappies and catfish, the reservoir is a delight for anglers, who pay $300 per boat (includes 3 anglers, $50 each additional angler), to participate in one of the open tournament days. The reservoir is normally closed to the public, but opens three times a year for the fishing tournament which benefits the surrounding communities. Various payouts-prizes. Tournament is limited to 50 boats. All of the money raised is shared by United Way of South Sarasota County, United Way Suncoast and United Way of Manatee County. October 5, 2019: It's the Sarasota Pirates & Rum Festival Hosted by Sarasota Caribbean Festival. Great live music, exotic cuisines, pirates, soul food, and rum brands from around the world. October 5, 2019: Check out some heavenly bodies during Sidewalk Astronomy courtesy of the local group of Deep Sky Observers. Telescopes will be up and available for public viewing from sunset. - 10 p.m. - 10:30 p.m. (weather permitting). October 5, 2019: Oompa! Enjoy and take part in the MGB 5th Annual Oktoberfest. Come dressed in your best dirndl or lederhosen and as always you get to keep your liter stein with your purchase of your favorite German beer. October 5, 2019: It's the Water Lantern Festival, an amazing experience where you'll witness the magic of the lanterns as they light up the water. Founded in 2017, Water Lantern Festival is an incredible experience where you, your friends, and your family will create a magical memory of life. It can be a very emotional experience, writing down some of your hopes and dreams, or a letter to a loved one, and then sending it out into the water. Water Lantern Festival brings people together in a magical night that includes food, music, and beauty as the lanterns light up the water. October 5 - 6, 2019: The 31st Annual Fruitville Grove Pumpkin Fest features hay rides, pony rides, pumpkin painting, face painting, mini train rides, a petting zoo and more. Lots of Halloween decorations for sale, too, from scarecrows to hay bales. Admission, Parking, Petting zoo, playground, live music, and decorated photo spots are FREE! Individual ride and game activity booth, including pony rides, unicorn encounter, hug a goat and pumpkin painting, has their own set price ranging from $1 – $7. October 5 - 6, 2019: are the dates for this year's 25th Annual Downtown Sarasota Craft Festival. Held in downtown Sarasota at Orange and Main Street, this is one of the more popular annual two day events on my Sarasota Calendar of Events and features everything from paintings to woodwork. October 6, 2019: You can enjoy Sarasota's own Ski-A-Rees Water Ski Team and their Sunday afternoon show at 2 p.m. at Ski-A-Ree Stadium. October 11, 2019: Get your toes tapping at "Jazz at Two" as Al Hixon opens the 2019 - 20 Jazz at Two season with a jam session. Al Hixon invited a number of artists to perform with his trio in a jam session to open the Jazz at Two concert series. A Jazz Club favorite, he performs regularly at Jazz at Two and for the annual Jazz Trolley night. October 11, 2019: It's the Free Music Friday Night Concert featuring the  Brown Campbell Blues Band in Centennial Park in downtown Venice. Free. 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. Enjoy an evening of Live Entertainment under the stars at the Gazebo.

October 11, 2019: Are you brave enough to dare to explore Historic Spanish Point in the moonlight on their Full Moon walking ghost tour? Hear stories of intrigue and mystery about Sarasota and Florida history as you visit the historic houses, prehistoric burial mound and pioneer cemetery of Historic Spanish Point. Tours start at the Gazebo, and are 1.5 hours in length. 7 p.m, 8 p.m., 9 p.m. $20 per person. Historic Spanish Point, 337 N. Tamiami Tr., Osprey, FL.

October 11 - 12, 2019: Manatee Village Historical Park will host Tombstone Tours, guided walking tours of the 1850 Manatee Burying Grounds where you will experience the historic grounds by torchlight, led by a costumed interpreter. Docents will describe the history of the Burying Grounds, personal histories of those buried there, and why the tombstones look the way they do. The 1850 Manatee Burying Grounds is the oldest public cemetery in Manatee County. It was the first burying ground for the Village of Manatee, which was the first established community between Tampa and Key West, dating to 1842. Gates open at 6:30pm, with tours beginning at 6:45 p.m. Tours will conclude by 8 p.m. Repeats October 18 - 19, 2019. *Presentation of tour in Church (rather than cemetery) at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 24, 2019.* Tickets are $20. October 12, 2019: The 14th Annual UF/IFAS Extension Sarasota County Master Gardener Plant Sale offers visitors the chance to purchase beautiful plants and consult with Master Gardener volunteers on plant selection, gardening tips, and other plant and pest questions. October 12, 2019: Sun Coast Jaguar Club of Florida is hosting the 34th Annual Concours d'Elegance on St. Armands Key. This is a JCNA Sanctioned event and is open to all vintage thru modern Jaguar cars. Cars may be entered in non-judged or judged classes, $35 - $55. October 12, 2019: It's the 5th annual Howl-O-Ween Movie night Spooktacular shown on the Ed Smith Stadium outfield video board. Bring the whole family to Ed Smith Stadium for spooktacular Halloween fun including children’s games and activities, photo ops, costume parade and a family-friendly Halloween-themed movie shown on the outfield video board. October 18, 2019: Get ready for an  “Eerie Evening” of stories as you walk among Historic Spanish Point’s historic houses, ancient mounds, and their pioneer cemetery. This exclusive October-only event features  paranormal investigations by the Paranormal Society of Bradenton. There will be three tours each evening. The tours will meet at the white Gazebo on the Historic Spanish Point site and each tour will last approximately 90 minutes and will be roughly a ¾ of a mile walk outdoors with some pathways up and down stairs. 7 p.m., 8 p.m., 9 p.m. Repeats on 10/25/19. October 19, 2019: The Newtown Farmers Market in Sarasota hosts the 4th annual Big Mama's Collard Greens Fest. The fest is a celebration of community and culture, with influence from Cajun, Creole, Southern and Caribbean styles. The legendary "big mama" represents the best-tasting family collard greens recipes, some dating back more than 100 years. In addition, chefs from major restaurants in Sarasota and Manatee counties and the Tampa Bay area will showcase their collard greens and specialty foods. October 20, 2019: It's the 10th Annual Tour de North Port Bicycle Ride. This year's theme is "It's The Green Pumpkin!" It's not a race but different courses in and around the streets of North Port. There are 15, 35, and 65 mile routes that highlight North Port’s most natural settings and the parks that border the Myakkahatchee Creek with each route having its own color-coded road markings. Catered breakfast by First Watch Cafe, catered lunch, desserts that include homemade pies and rest stops that feature homemade snacks. The first 400 to register will also receive a free ride t-shirt, "got shade?" sunglasses and a goodie bag. Full mobile Support And Gear (SAG) provided by Louie’s Bicycle and The Bicycle Center. October 25, 2019: Get ready for an  “Eerie Evening” of stories as you walk among Historic Spanish Point’s historic houses, ancient mounds, and their pioneer cemetery. This exclusive October-only event features  paranormal investigations by the Paranormal Society of Bradenton. There will be three tours each evening. October 26, 2019: The 16th Annual Boo Run & Boo Dash is a family oriented 5K run & Dash with a costume contest and awards. With over 1,200 runners and spectators expected, the race begins at 8:30 a.m. with a Boo Dash Kids Race at 7:45 a.m. All runners will receive a bib, t-shirt and a treat bag at registration. Costumes will be judged in these categories: Best Couple, Most Creative, Most Funny, Best Male/Female Kids Under 10.
