October 1, 2022: It's time to clean out the garage and gather discarded household items, appliances, junk and tree trimmings as Sarasota County hosts a free community cleanup in the Gulf Gate from 8 a.m. to noon,. Dumpsters for residential customers will be available at the following location: 7112 Curtis Ave., across from the Gulf Gate Public Library. Hazardous materials may be taken to the Sarasota County Chemical Collection Center 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Saturday. The centers are located at 8750 Bee Ridge Road, Sarasota; and 250 S. Jackson Road, Venice, FL.

October 1, 2022:  Jaguar Festival d’Elegance Returns to St. Armands Circle! It is the 36th Annual Festival d'Elegance on St. Armand's Key in St. Armand's Circle Park. All Jaguar Vehicles are welcome to participate. The event is free and open to the public. 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. St. Armand's Circle, Sarasota, FL.

October 1, 2022: It's Sharktoberfest at Mote Marine Aquarium. Raise a glass with Mote Marine Laboratory & Aquarium during Sharktoberfest, a craft beer festival in the Aquarium after hours. The event will feature more than 15 local and regional breweries that will provide samples of their staple selections alongside unique, seasonal brews. Each guest will receive a commemorative tasting glass for sampling and a branded gift bag. Sharktoberfest guests will experience Mote Aquarium as they never have before, enjoying live entertainment, food stations, merchandise vendors and special experiences provided by Mote’s Education department. October 1, 2022: Check out some heavenly bodies during Sidewalk Astronomy courtesy of the local group of Deep Sky Observers as they return with their program for the first time in over 2 years due to the pandemic.Telescopes will be up and available for public viewing starting at 7:15 p.m., and continuing until at least 10:15 p.m. The members of the Local Group will set up their high-quality telescopes in the parking lot at the southeastern corner of Sarasota's Celery Fields Park. The evening's observing highlights will feature close-up details of the waxing crescent Moon as well as a chance to view the two most spectacular gas-giant planets in the Solar System: Jupiter and Saturn! Parking will be available in the large lot just WEST of the Nature Center building. The telescopes will be set up in the parking lot on the east side of the Nature Center. October 1 - 2, 2022: The 34th Annual Fruitville Grove Pumpkin Fest features hay rides, pony rides, pumpkin painting, face painting, mini train rides, a petting zoo and more. Lots of Halloween decorations for sale, too, from scarecrows to hay bales. Admission, Parking, Petting zoo, playground, live music, and decorated photo spots are FREE! Individual rides and game activity booth, including pony rides, unicorn encounter, hug a goat and pumpkin painting, has their own set price ranging from $1 – $10. Children’s Costume Contest every Saturday at 2 p.m. in front of the animal barn and free to participate in. Torres Family Circus and Extreme Riders Free daily showtimes each weekend 11:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. While some vendor booths may accept cards, many are cash only so please be prepared. October 1 - 2, 2022: It's the 27th Annual Downtown Sarasota Craft Festival. Held in downtown Sarasota at Orange and Main Street.  A variety of jewelry, pottery, ceramics, photography, painting, clothing and much more. An expansive Green Market with plants, orchids, exotic flora, handmade soaps, gourmet spices and freshly popped kettle corn further compliments the weekend. October 2, 2022: Enjoy Sarasota's own Ski-A-Rees Water Ski Team and their Sunday afternoon show at 2 p.m. at Ski-A-Ree Stadium. This free show takes place at 1602 Ken Thompson Parkway (near/behind Mote Marine Aquarium on the water.) 2 p.m. Free. 388-1666.

October 5, 2022: The Phillippi Farmhouse Market is back and it features locally grown fruits and vegetables, including local USDA certified organic produce and hydroponics. There will be plants, herbs, hanging baskets, shrubs and cut flowers for sale along with a wide variety of locally baked goods, delicious barbecue, plenty of food and beverage vendors, arts and crafts, soaps and candles and always live music. 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. every Wednesday, October through April. 5500 S. October 5, 2022: It's NBP Rec Day! A great way to get on the water, family-style! Participants will have the opportunity to try stand-up paddle boarding, kayaking, canoes, fishing and more. Fee is $10 per person. $5 per adult with accompanying child. Free for children ages 6 and younger Family maximum: $35 (for households of five or more). All must complete the waiver forms. Fishing licenses are required for all participants 14 and older who choose to fish. NBP Rec Days! are held at the base of the finish tower on Regatta Island. Depending on events, however, they may move to the west shore, near the playground. October 6, 2022: Check out Ringling Underground with local and regional live music featuring Ringling 6ft Underground  in the museum courtyard while up and coming artists showcase their works also in the museum courtyard. 8 p.m. - 11 p.m. Admission: $15. October 6, 2022: Enjoy the fall "Festival of Music" as SCF music ensembles come together for the season’s first performance in the SCF Neel Performing Arts Center. Join the Symphonic Band, Concert Choir, Chamber Choir, Guitar Ensemble, Jazz Big Band, and Jazz Combo for the annual “Fall Festival of Music.” 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 for general admission and $5 for SCF students and staff. October 5 - 9, 2022: Celebrate their 10th Annual Oktoberfest at Edelweiss in Bradenton with a large, open air beer tent with seating and live entertainment with German music, fire spinner and German Schuplattler dancers, Oktoberfest food, contests & prizes and German beer. October 7, 2022 - November 24, 2022: For the 5th year in a row the annual Autumn Hay Maze returns to the playground/event garden area at Nathan Benderson Park. Construction will be the morning of Oct. 7. Last year’s maze was about 40’x50’, and hundreds of area youths (and their parents) enjoyed the two-bale-high maze — tall enough for toddlers but short enough for them and their parents, too. The maze will open to the public in the afternoon, after it's finished. October 7, 2022: Lakewood Ranch presents Music on Main the first Friday of each month from 6 p.m.- 9 p.m. Live music, beer, wine and food available. The Trevor Bystrom Band will fill the air with calypso, reggae,Latin and blues music; the deejay will keep you dancing with today’s Top 100 hits, The street is lined with food vendors, beer trucks, and sponsor booths, as well as rides and activities for the kids. Bring your chairs, but leave coolers at home. Dogs are welcome, but must be kept on a short leash. Overflow parking is available at the Lakewood Ranch Medical Center. October, 8, 2022: It's the The 16th Annual Master Gardener Volunteer Plant Sale and EdFest. At this family-friendly event, choose from among hundreds of shrubs, trees, palms, annuals, herbs and other plant varieties identified as “Florida-friendly” by the University of Florida, and get gardening and landscaping advice from Extension-trained Master Gardener Volunteers. EdFest booths and demonstrations will highlight the array of programs and services offered through Extension, from gardening advice to youth development. October 8, 2022: Check out Breakfast with the Sharks and start your day with their sharks before the Mote Aquarium opens to the public. You and your chums will have a great time sinking your teeth into a light continental breakfast while you learn about our favorite finned friends and Mote’s breakthrough shark research. During this program, you'll meet our resident sharks, watch a narrated feeding of our bonnetheads, and have all of your shark questions answered. After breakfast, you’ll learn about the breakthrough research going on at Mote during a guided tour of our Aquarium. 8 a.m. - 9:30 p.m. Breakfast with the Sharks does not include general admission to Mote Marine Laboratory. October 8, 2022: Check out their new location for The 24th Annual Cortez Nautical Flea Market with lots of used boat stuff, some new boat stuff, too, to buy or trade along with antiques, dive gear, fishing gear and more. Meet fellow boaters, enjoy some live music, food and have a good time. 8:30 a.m.- 12:30 p.m.  Free admission. Open to the public. October 8, 2022: Manatee Village Historical Park is hosting “Tombstone Tour,” a free, staff-led tour of the historic cemetery. Learn about the history of the cemetery, the meaning of tombstone symbols, and listen to some of the stories of those who were buried there.The 1850 Manatee Burying Ground is the oldest public cemetery in Manatee County. Each staff member will be giving a unique tour and the public will be able to reserve spots in advance. During the hour-long tour, guests will explore different facets of Manatee County’s history while being guided by a staff member. Have a craft brew at the 3rd Annual SRQ Craft Beer Festival featuring breweries, vendors and activities.  There will be food trucks, live entertainment and a pop-up boutique shopping area as well as activities for the kids.Tickets are $20 to enter and that gets you free samples from Gold Coast Eagle and all the local breweries and entry into raffles for gift cards to local businesses. Sun Fiesta

October 14 - 16, 2022: You're invited to The annual Sun Fiesta! Events begin Friday evening and continue all day Saturday and Sunday. Funny Bed Races, a Parade and the Miss Sun Fiesta Pageant culminating in a young woman being selected to win a $1,000 scholarship. Also: arts and crafts, food and drink, live music and entertainment and more throughout the 3-day weekend event. October 14 - 31, 2022: You're invited “Lights at Spooky Point,” which features an array of fantastic creatures and cute creations designed with lights along an eerily lit path through the woods at the preserve and outdoor museum of Historic Spanish Point. Visitors also will see familiar historic sites like Mary’s Chapel and the Pioneer Graveyard in a mysterious (but not too scary) new light during this event for all ages. There will be a one-way path from the Welcome Center Gazebo through several popular areas on the Historic Spanish Point bathed in the glow of orange, purple, and red lights. Along the way, guests will encounter flying “ghost orchids,” webs with “spider orchids,” giant “bat orchids,” vine-twisted skeletons, plenty of pumpkins, and other surprises. This nighttime walk through the woods will finish at a hay maze before guests return to the gazebo to exit.Selby Gardens will offer two entry times each evening for Lights at Spooky Point: 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., and 7:45 to 8:45 p.m. A limited number of tickets will be available for each entry time and must be purchased in advance, either through the Selby Gardens website or at the Welcome Center on either campus. October 15, 2022: The Florida Inline Skating Marathon returns to NBP for its second year, the largest skate race in Florida; and the second largest in the nation. A variety of race distances offer something for everyone, regardless of age or ability. Free admission. May be a fee for parking. October 15, 2022: Something is brewing at The Children’s Garden's Witches Tea! This event is a ghostly delight of Halloween-inspired tea sandwiches and sweet and bubbling tea. Decorate your magical wand and visit their potion table. Tickets go on sale September 13th (and they go quickly, as broom parking is limited!) Come have a wicked good time! October 15, 2022: The Newtown Farmers Market in Sarasota hosts the 5th annual Big Mama's Collard Greens Fest. The fest is a celebration of community and culture, with influence from Cajun, Creole, Southern and Caribbean styles. The legendary "big mama" represents the best-tasting family collard greens recipes, some dating back more than 100 years. In addition, chefs from major restaurants in Sarasota and Manatee counties and the Tampa Bay area will showcase their collard greens and specialty foods. Entertainment will highlight local talent! A family-friendly, no-alcohol event. Food will be available for purchase from multiple food vendors. October 17, 2021: 2023 information to be released in January 2023. It's the Great American Cleanup Keep Sarasota County Beautiful has been granted approval to resume cleanup activities. They will be hosting a "Postponed" Great American Cleanup as KSCB has partnered with Sarasota County's Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources and Libraries and Historical Resources departments to offer new activities to enhance the environmental health and beauty of Sarasota County. In addition to traditional litter removal, there are opportunities to help with other special projects including invasive removal and gardening maintenance at various locations and water based litter removal by kayak. All volunteers MUST individually pre-register to participate by submitting a unique registration form. Currently Lido Beach, Siesta Main Beach and Siesta Key Accesses 5-9 are at full capacity and no longer accepting new volunteers. October 21, 2022: The Jazz Club of Sarasota is kicking off their 43rd season by presenting The Manhattan Transfer in Concert at the Circus Arts Conservatory. On the riverfront, you can learn about our region's rich history of Red Bays, Bahamas and the early 1800's community that was known as Angola, near what is now Bradenton Park. October 28, 2022: Check out Jazz at Two featuring Eddie Tobin and Friends. Eddie Tobin is a favorite in the Sarasota, Manatee area. For eight years, Tobin toured with Englebert Humperdinck, as music director, conductor and pianist. Moving to Sarasota in the early 2000‘s, he joined the area’s favorite club band, the Venturas. October 30, 2022:  It's the 34th Anniversary Bill's Beer Run Marathon. The 5-mile, fund-raising run named after Bill Menard, takes place on Casey Key and the field is limited to 750 runners. October 30, 2021: TBA for 2022. The Bradenton Farmers’ Market is hosting Howl’ween, a pet costume contest and parade on Old Main Street. Watch as lines of pooches strut down Old Main Street in Halloween costumes with their owners. Owners are encouraged to dress up too! There will be a special prize for best owner and pet costumes. October 31, 2022: For the 38th year Siesta Key will host the “Safe Treats.” This FREE event provides a safe venue for children to trick-or-treat and is a fun afternoon for the entire family. October 31, 2022:  It's the Children's Costume and Halloween Parade in downtown Venice in Centennial Park. Meet at the Gazebo at 4 p.m. Children must be accompanied by an adult.Parade line up is at 4:30 p.m.  The parade down West Venice Avenue will begin promptly at 5pm led by the Lions Club of Venice float and members.More than 500 children are expected to receive candy treats from its members.
