October 1, 2023: It's the St Armand's Craft Festival and Sidewalk Sale. The event offers art from a broad spectrum of mediums including sculpture, photography, glass, paintings, ceramics, jewelry, mixed media, and more! In addition to fine art, this festival will feature a craft marketplace on the street. With over 175 artisans you're bound to find something nice. 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Free. October 1, 2023: Enjoy Sarasota's own Ski-A-Rees Water Ski Team and their Sunday afternoon show at 2 p.m. at Ski-A-Ree Stadium. This free show takes place at 1602 Ken Thompson Parkway (near/behind Mote Marine Aquarium on the water.) 2 p.m. Free. 388-1666.

October 1, 2023:  The 35th Annual Fruitville Grove Pumpkin Fest features hay rides, pony rides, pumpkin painting, face painting, mini train rides, a petting zoo and more. Lots of Halloween decorations for sale, too, from scarecrows to hay bales. Admission, Parking, Petting zoo, playground, live music, and decorated photo spots are FREE! Individual rides and game activity booth, including pony rides, unicorn encounter, hug a goat and pumpkin painting, has their own set price ranging from $1 – $10. Children’s Costume Contest every Saturday at 2 p.m. in front of the animal barn and free to participate in. Torres Family Circus and Extreme Riders Free daily showtimes each weekend 12 p.m. and 3 p.m. While some vendor booths may accept cards, many are cash only so please be prepared. October 1, 2023: Check out Parktoberfest at The Bay. This family-friendly event has a hoppy twist and no Deutsch required. The DeLeon Family Band returns to The Bay to perform traditional ‘oom-pah’ style Polka and more. Make sure to be a part of the world-famous “Chicken Dance” tradition. Or, challenge those you know (or perhaps, those you don’t know) to Cornhole. Sun King Brewery partners with The Nest to offer a range of must-try German-inspired and locally crafted brews and beers. The Nest will serve brats and soft pretzels with beer cheese sauce. Currywurst food truck will be on hand with tasty favorites. 5 p.m. - 7 p.m. Free public parking is located along Blvd of Arts, Van Wezel way, in front of the Van Wezel, and in front of the Blue Pagoda (655 N Tamiami Trl, Sarasota). October 4, 2023: The Phillippi Farmhouse Market is back and it features locally grown fruits and vegetables, including local USDA certified organic produce and hydroponics. There will be plants, herbs, hanging baskets, shrubs and cut flowers for sale along with a wide variety of locally baked goods, delicious barbecue, plenty of food and beverage vendors, arts and crafts, soaps and candles and always live music. 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. every Wednesday, October through April. 5500 S. October 5, 2024: You're invited to Repticon Sarasota 2024, an expo highlighting reptile shows, events, activities and sales. October 5, 2023: It's Ringling Underground. October 6, 2023: Lakewood Ranch presents Music on Main the first Friday of each month from 6 p.m.- 9 p.m. Live music, beer, wine and food available. The RJ Howson & Friends will fill the air with groovin’ originals and classic sounds and the deejay will keep you dancing with today’s Top 100 hits, The street is lined with food vendors, beer trucks, and sponsor booths, as well as rides and activities for the kids. Bring your chairs, but leave coolers at home. Dogs are welcome, but must be kept on a short leash. Overflow parking is available at the Lakewood Ranch Medical Center. October 7, 2023: Check out their new location for The 25th Annual Cortez Nautical Flea Market with lots of used boat stuff, some new boat stuff, too, to buy or trade along with antiques, dive gear, fishing gear and more. Meet fellow boaters, enjoy some live music, food and have a good time. 8:00 a.m.- 12:00 p.m.  Free admission. Open to the public. October 7 - November 26, 2023: It's The Orchid Show 2023: A 50th Anniversary Celebration. The Orchid Show 2023 will include a horticultural display in the Tropical Conservatory and an exhibition in the Museum of Botany & the Arts. Orchids of various shapes, colors, and patterns will abound in the Conservatory, illustrating the beauty and diversity of one of the largest and most beloved families of flowering plants. The Museum exhibition will present a selection of rare artifacts and historical images to help tell the rich story of Selby Gardens’ first 50 years, with emphasis on the plants and people who have made it such a special place. October 13, 2023: It's Spyro Gyra in Concert at the Sailor Circus Arena. Spyro Gyra headlines the opening event of the Jazz Club's 2023 - 2024 season. A world renowned group, Spyro Gyra has performed on six continents and released 35 albums, garnering platinum and gold records along the way. Ocotber 13 - 15, 2023: It's the International Canoe Federation (ICF) SUP World Cup. Stand Up Paddling athletes from around the world will be coming to Sarasota, Florida to race for world titles. This highly anticipated event, to be hosted by Nathan Benderson Park, promises to thrill spectators new to the event and dedicated SUP athletes alike. Come watch three epic days of racing with sprint, distance and technical races along with a fun recreation race on Saturday. ICF will award $10,000 in prize money that will be evenly distributed between men and women across all three races. Those who are excited about this event but are not interested in competing should know that attendance is free of charge for spectators! October 13 - 15, 2023:  A weekend fest of live music and beer, song and dance at the 8th Annual Sarasota Celtic Music Festival which will feature Celtic Fusion, Celtic Folk and Celtic Rock. Eat, drink and be merry and sample a variety of craft beers plus authentic Celtic food, drink and craft vendors; a beautiful fusion of beer-swilling, kilt-sporting, lederhosen-loving merriment and live music throughout the weekend. October 13 - 31, 2023:  You're invited “Lights at Spooky Point,” which features an array of fantastic creatures and cute creations designed with lights along an eerily lit path through the woods at the preserve and outdoor museum of Historic Spanish Point. Visitors also will see familiar historic sites like Mary’s Chapel and the Pioneer Graveyard in a mysterious (but not too scary) new light during this event for all ages. There will be a one-way path from the Welcome Center Gazebo through several popular areas on the Historic Spanish Point bathed in the glow of orange, purple, and red lights. Along the way, guests will encounter flying “ghost orchids,” webs with “spider orchids,” giant “bat orchids,” vine-twisted skeletons, plenty of pumpkins, and other surprises. This nighttime walk through the woods will finish at a hay maze before guests return to the gazebo to exit. Selby Gardens will offer two entry times each evening for Lights at Spooky Point: 6:30  p.m. and 7:45 p.m. A limited number of tickets will be available for each entry time and must be purchased in advance, either through the Selby Gardens website or at the Welcome Center on either campus. Ticket prices are $20 for Selby Gardens members, $30 for non-members, $15 for ages 5 to 17, and free for children 4 and under. October 14, 2023: It's Sharktoberfest at Mote Marine Aquarium. Raise a glass with Mote Marine Laboratory & Aquarium during Sharktoberfest, a craft beer festival in the Aquarium after hours. The event will feature local and regional breweries that will provide samples of their staple selections alongside unique, seasonal brews. Each guest will receive a commemorative tasting glass for sampling and a branded gift bag. October 14, 2023:  it's the 17th Annual Master Gardener Volunteer Plant Sale and EdFest. At this family-friendly event, choose from among hundreds of shrubs, trees, palms, annuals, herbs and other plant varieties identified as “Florida-friendly” by the University of Florida, and get gardening and landscaping advice from Extension-trained Master Gardener Volunteers. EdFest booths and demonstrations will highlight the array of programs and services offered through Extension, from gardening advice to youth development. October 14, 2023:  Manatee Village Historical Park is hosting Cemetery Tours,” a free hour-long tour of the 1850 Manatee Burying Grounds led by a member of Manatee Village's staff. Tours cover different facets of life during Manatee's Founding Period (1840-1918) as well as stories of those buried in the burying grounds. Topics vary depending on the staff member leading the tour. Space is limited and filled on a first come, first served basis. All members of your party must be present to receive a wristband. Check in at the Wiggins General Store at Manatee Village Historical Park on the morning of the tour to receive your free wrist band. Please note that this is an outdoor event. Participants will traverse over curbs and uneven terrain. There will be no seating during the tour. October 14, 2023: Check out the 5K SUP Rec Paddle & Costume Contest at NBP! Come dressed in your best for our 5K paddle and SUP costume contest! Costumes are optional. Prizes will be awarded for best individual costume or best group theme. Note: All costumes must be tasteful and appropriate to be permitted to participate in the event. Open to all ages and skill levels! Hop on a paddleboard, test your balance, get a great workout and have a blast! With Halloween just around the corner, we encourage you to add an extra level of fun by participating in our costume contest! Wear a costume that best shows off your SUPerpower! Participation is optional but there will be a prize for the best costume or for the group with the best costume theme. October 15, 2023: The Sarasota Firemen's Benevolent Fund will host the 23rd  Annual Morton's Firehouse Chili Cook-Off features Sarasota firehouses competing for the best chili award. Celebrity judges, live music and more. 2 p.m. - 5 p.m. at Morton's Gourmet Market in Southside Village on Osprey Avenue between Hyde Park street and Hillview Avenue. October 17, 2021: TBA for 2024. It's the Great American Cleanup Keep Sarasota County Beautiful has been granted approval to resume cleanup activities. They will be hosting a "Postponed" Great American Cleanup as KSCB has partnered with Sarasota County's Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources and Libraries and Historical Resources departments to offer new activities to enhance the environmental health and beauty of Sarasota County. In addition to traditional litter removal, there are opportunities to help with other special projects including invasive removal and gardening maintenance at various locations and water based litter removal by kayak. All volunteers MUST individually pre-register to participate by submitting a unique registration form. Currently Lido Beach, Siesta Main Beach and Siesta Key Accesses 5-9 are at full capacity and no longer accepting new volunteers. October 20, 2023: The Ringling Museum of Art (The Ringling) will kick off the 2023-24 cultural season with the White Hot Fête party and performances in the Museum of Art Courtyard. The event will feature Yaite Ramos Rodriguez, the singer, flautist and percussionist whose stage name is La Dame Blanche and DJ Moses Belanger of Montreal. Guests are invited to wear all-white in the spirit of white party revelry and traditions for a full night that celebrates The Ringling’s cultural season of exhibitions and worldclass programs, as well as the upcoming Art of Performance season. The fest is a celebration of community and culture, with influence from Cajun, Creole, Southern and Caribbean styles. October 21, 2023: Check out some heavenly bodies during Sidewalk Astronomy courtesy of the local group of Deep Sky Observers as they return with their program. Telescopes will be up and available for public viewing starting at 7 p.m. until 10 p.m. Weather permitting, the members of the Local Group will set up their high-quality telescopes in the parking lot at the southeastern corner of Sarasota's Celery Fields Park. Observing highlights will include the beautiful ringed planet Saturn, giant Jupiter (after about 9:00 p.m.) as well as extraordinary close-up views of the features on our own Moon. Other deep-sky objects, as well as a couple of additional planets will also be featured in the club member’s telescopes. October 28, 2023:  Manatee Village Historical Park is hosting Cemetery Tours,” a free hour-long tour of the 1850 Manatee Burying Grounds led by a member of Manatee Village's staff. Tours cover different facets of life during Manatee's Founding Period (1840-1918) as well as stories of those buried in the burying grounds. Topics vary depending on the staff member leading the tour. Space is limited and filled on a first come, first served basis. All members of your party must be present to receive a wristband. Check in at the Wiggins General Store at Manatee Village Historical Park on the morning of the tour to receive your free wrist band. Please note that this is an outdoor event. Participants will traverse over curbs and uneven terrain. There will be no seating during the tour. November 8-10, 2024 downtown Sarasota FloridaThe Sarasota Chalk Festival at the Venice Airport Festival Grounds hosts scores of chalk artists from all over who will create artwork using the pavement of the Venice Airport Festival Grounds as their canvas, the 2022 theme being "A SPIRITED Museum in Motion." Attend in costume! Zombie field, Music, and interactive zones are only a part of the family fun activities to celebrate this 'Spirited' time of year! The grounds will also serve as the main parking area and site of the 4 day event. Over 500 national and international artists participate in the Sarasota Chalk Festival each year. October 31, 2023: Time for ghosts, goblins, monsters, and tricks or treats! The Anna Maria Island Chamber of Commerce is excited to announce the annual "TRAIL OF TREATS." This super fun event will kick off at the AMI Chamber of Commerce, 5313 Gulf Drive in Holmes Beach. A costume contest for ages up to 11 will be judged promptly at 4:00 p.m. and participants should plan to check in at the Chamber at 3:30 p.m. They will have four age groups for the contest, with trophies awarded! After the judging and snacks, kids will have the opportunity to safely trick or treat at area businesses in Bradenton Beach, Holmes Beach and Anna Maria. October 31, 2023: It's the Children's Costume and Halloween Parade in downtown Venice in Centennial Park. Meet at the Gazebo at 4 p.m. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Parade line up is at 4:30 p.m.  The parade down West Venice Avenue will begin promptly at 5 p.m. led by the Lions Club of Venice float and members. More than 500 children are expected to receive candy treats from its members. All ages welcome. Following the brief parade, children will be free to trick or treat for more goodies at participating locations along the avenues.
