October 3, 2018: The Phillippi Farmhouse Market is back and it features locally grown fruits and vegetables, including local USDA certified organic produce and hydroponics. There will be plants, herbs, hanging baskets, shrubs and cut flowers for sale along with a wide variety of locally baked goods, delicious barbeque, plenty of food and beverage vendors, arts and crafts, soaps and candles and always live music. 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. every Wednesday, October through April. 5500 S. October 4, 2018: Get groovin in the courtyard at Ringling Underground where you can enjoy live music in the Museum of Art Courtyard. An eclectic mix of local and regional live music is featured in the series. Plus check out up and coming artists with select galleries open until 11 p.m. 8 p.m. - 11 p.m.  Admission: $15. October 5, 2018: Lakewood Ranch presents Music on Main the first Friday of each month from 6 p.m.- 9 p.m. Live music, beer, wine and food available. The Hydramatic will fill the air with stripped down Soul with Soul music and the deejay will keep you dancing with today’s Top 100 hits. Bring your chairs, but leave coolers at home. Dogs are welcome, but must be kept on a short leash. Overflow parking is available at the Lakewood Ranch Medical Center. Lakewood Ranch is off University Parkway east of I-75. October 5 - 6, 2018: Check out the Business Showcase (formerly Consumer Expo) with more than 100 businesses participating along with door prizes, health screenings and more. Free admission and parking. 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. Venice Community Center, 326 S. Nokomis Ave., Venice.

October 5 - 7, 2018: There's a Gem, Jewelry & Bead Show with lots on display to see from dealers from around the country selling gems, jewelry, beads, crystals and more. Adults $5. 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Sarasota Municipal Auditorium, 801 N. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota.

October 6, 2018: It's the “Fish For United Way” tournament benefiting the region’s United Ways and hosted by Florida Power and Light Company. Anglers can cast their lines in the 4,000-acre cooling reservoir, also known as Lake Parrish, that serves the FPL Plant. Home to bass, crappies and catfish, the reservoir is a delight for anglers, who pay $250 per boat (includes 3 anglers, $50 each additional angler), to participate in one of the open tournament days. The reservoir is normally closed to the public, but opens three times a year for the fishing tournament which benefits the surrounding communities. Top prize: $1,000. Tournament is limited to 50 boats. All of the money raised is shared by United Way of South Sarasota County, United Way Suncoast and United Way of Manatee County. October 6, 2018: Take in an afternoon and early evening at the 4th Annual Beer, Bands and BBQ featuring local food and BBQ Vendors, and of course an assortment of beer available for purchase. The music lineup includes 7 top local bands: The Good Time Groove Band, Auto Kania, Jah Movement, Daisy Dukes Band, Steve Arvey, and Fiya Wata. In between sets there will be student performances, featuring Music Compound students, Sarasota's rising stars. Family friendly. Tickets: $10 - $15 General admission, students $5. October 6, 2018: It's Oktoberfest time in Siesta Key Village with a pub crawl where you can pick up  a "passport" for $20 which gets you beer samples around the village, 2 Oktoberfest-like beers from each bar. October 6, 2018: Don your best Oktoberfest attire for a great time and a big Oktoberfest celebration which will include many of the typical items you actually get when you go to Oktoberfest in Munich including Large Bretzeln, White Radish, and much more. Lots of Halloween decorations for sale, too, from scarecrows to hay bales. Admission, Parking, Petting zoo, playground, live music, and decorated photo spots are FREE! Individual ride and game activity booth, including pony rides, rock wall, bounce house, and pumpkin painting, has their own set price ranging from $2 – $7. October 6 - 7, 2018: are the dates for this year's 24th Annual Downtown Sarasota Craft Festival. Held in downtown Sarasota at Orange and Main Street, this is one of the more popular annual two day events on my Sarasota Calendar of Events and features everything from paintings to woodwork. October 7, 2018: Is your dog the Top Dog? Check out the 2018 Top Dog Show, "Fashion, Fur & Fun." It's a Westminster type dog show. At this year's event you can enjoy the Top Dog event on Sarasota Bay with Sunday Brunch by Executive Chef, Paul Mattison. There will also be a Canine Fashion Show and more! October 7, 2018: Check out the 3rd Annual Porchfest music fest with numerous different acts playing on 20 different porches! It's a grassroots community music fest where front porches become stages. Featuring a variety of music along with food and beverage vendors. Bring your own chair or blanket to sit on. Free admission. 3 p.m. - 8 p.m. Arlington Park Neighborhood, Sarasota, FL. October 11, 2018: State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) will present a “Global Initiative” as the season debut for the SCF Bradenton Symphony Orchestra. The audience will embark on a trip around the world with the orchestra and guest piano soloist and music faculty member Aza Torshkoeva. Sibelius’ “Finlandia,” will take the listener to the land of the midnight sun followed by an excursion to Warsaw with Addinsell’s “Warsaw Concerto” and finally Dvorak’s classic “New World Symphony.” Ticket holders are invited to a reception and music discussion at 6:30 p.m. in The Gallery at SCF adjacent to SCF’s Neel PAC lobby. October 11 – 14, 2018: The Southern Tandem Rally 2018 brings close to 200 visitors to Venice with hundreds of tandem bicyclists will be coming to Venice to ride their bicycles built for two. There's a full schedule of activities for the weekend. If you see tandem riders out on the roads, please give them a friendly wave. More info here.

October 12, 2018: Unfortunately due to the summer construction in downtown Venice their Free Music Friday Night summer concerts in Centennial Park are on hiatus until November, 2018.

October 12 - 13, 2018: Celebrating its 22nd Anniversary, the Giving Hunger the Blues & Jazz on the Bay Music Festival becomes 2 days of music and fun in 2018 and takes place again on the outdoor grounds of the Van Wezel Auditorium. With Sarasota Bay as a backdrop there will be live music with16 national musical, regional and local musical acts. Live music for 2 days! Oct. 12's line up includes: Hot Club SRQ, Synia Carrol with The Phil Magallanes Trio, Fred Johnson and more. Oct. 13's line up includes headliner, Sarasota's own, Lauren Mitchell, the Florida Blues Brothers, Brandi Adams, The Koko Ray 5 and more. A selection of the area’s most delicious restaurants and vendors add to the fun. Proceeds benefit the the Mayor's Feed the Hungry Program and the Generoso Foundation to feed, protect and nurture children and families in our community. October 13, 2018: The 13th Annual UF/IFAS Extension Sarasota County Master Gardener Plant Sale offers visitors the chance to purchase beautiful plants and consult with Master Gardener volunteers on plant selection, gardening tips, and other plant and pest questions. October 13, 2018: Sun Coast Jaguar Club of Florida is hosting the 32nd Annual Concours d'Elegance on St. Armands Key. This is a JCNA Sanctioned event and is open to all vintage thru modern Jaguar cars. Cars may be entered in non-judged or judged classes, $35 - $55. October 13, 2018: START (Solutions to Avoid Red Tide) presents the first Shoreline Shindig, a free event to bring family fun, celebrating the importance of shorelines at a community party. Enjoy music by Passerine, delicious food and over 20 local partners committed to the environment. Attendees at the Shoreline Shindig will also have fun learning how to interact with the marine environment in a positive, sustainable way to support nature’s healing of sea waters. October 13, 2018: It's the 4th annual Howl-O-Ween Movie night Spooktacular shown on the Ed Smith Stadium outfield video board. Children can come dressed in their favorite costume to enjoy free children's games, activities and photo opportunities with the Oriole Bird beginning at 5:00 p.m., followed by a costume parade around the bases. The movie, Hocus Pocus, begins at approximately 7 p.m. Bring your blanket for outfield viewing or watch from stadium seating. Concessions available. Coolers are not permitted. No strollers, lawn chairs or high heels allowed on the field. Parking and admission are free. Guests are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item for All Faith's Food Bank. OneBlood will be conducting blood donations and donors will receive a free, Halloween-themed T-shirt. October 13, 2018: Check out some heavenly bodies during Sidewalk Astronomy courtesy of the local group of Deep Sky Observers. Telescopes will be up and available for public viewing from sunset. - 10 p.m. - 10:30 p.m. (weather permitting). October 13 - 14, 2018: Take part in an exciting weekend of racing and watch top international triathletes compete at the 2nd annual Sarasota-Bradenton Triathlon Festival. A two-day celebration of all things triathlon. With racing opportunities for, age-group, collegiate and elite athletes alike, registration is now open for the USAT Age Group Draft-Legal Sprint Triathlon World Qualifier and Age Group Non Draft Legal Open Sprint Triathlon. October 16, 2018: You're invited to take part in the 4th annual Siesta Key Oyster Bar Pumpkin Carving Contest. You will have 3 hours to carve or paint your pumpkin and judging will take place from 7-8pm. Please bring your own Pumpkin!! We will have a limited amount for purchase at the event. We will have carving and painting supplies, but if you have your own please bring them to make sure we have enough for supplies for everyone! October 19 - 21, 2018: Take a trip down to Charlotte County for the Florida International Air Show at the Punta Gorda Airport.  From static displays of aircraft to flying high overhead, the show will also feature a variety of performers. Various ticket prices and options. Friday: gates open at 5 p.m. with performances from 5:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. and a fireworks finale. Saturday & Sunday: gates open at 9 a.m. with noon shows. October 20, 2018: The Newtown Farmers Market in Sarasota hosts the 3rd annual Big Mama's Collard Greens Fest. The fest is a celebration of community and culture, with influence from Cajun, Creole, Southern and Caribbean styles. The legendary "big mama" represents the best-tasting family collard greens recipes, some dating back more than 100 years. In addition, chefs from major restaurants in Sarasota and Manatee counties and the Tampa Bay area will showcase their collard greens and specialty foods. October 27, 2018: Hit a howl-in-one at the 3rd annual Tee Time for Tots, a Halloween-themed, family-friendly, mini golf fundraiser benefiting the Early Learning Coalition of Sarasota County.From toddlers and tweens to baby boomers and beyond, this benefit will have something for everyone. In addition to trick or treating at every hole, Tee Time for Tots will feature face-painting, a caricature artist, fun Halloween-themed games and more. Enjoy story time on a quilt under large oaks trees. While costumes are optional, there will be a costume contest with prizes for all ages. Don't forget to check out their boo-tiful raffle baskets too! Each ticket includes one round of miniature golf, a slice of pizza and a beverage. Popular local folk/Americana band, Passerine, will provide live music from 9am - 12pm. October 28, 2018: It's the 9th Annual Tour de North Port Bicycle Ride. This year's theme is "It's The Green Pumpkin!" Click here for more details. It's not a race but different courses in and around the streets of North Port. There are 15, 35, and 65 mile routes that highlight North Port’s most natural settings and the parks that border the Myakkahatchee Creek with each route having its own color-coded road markings.
