January 1, 2023: Clancy's Irish Pub in Bradenton sponsors their Annual Shamrock Shiver Charity Plunge with volunteers braving the chilly Gulf of Mexico waters of Bradenton Beach. The event will take place at noon on Bradenton Beach at Gulf Drive between 4th Street South and 12th Street South. All participants will be socially distanced to ensure the health and safety of our community. 100% of the proceeds will fund Feeding Empty Little Tummies, Healthy Teens Coalition of Manatee County, Inc., and Take Stock in Children of Manatee County, all 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organizations. January 2, 2023: It's Monday Night Jazz at the Florida Studio Theatre Court Cabaret. Monday Night Jazz at the Cabaret presents an exciting evening of jazz with top entertainment in an intimate cabaret setting in downtown Sarasota at the John C. January 4, 2023: It's a free concert with live music with the Gentlemen of Jazz, which recreates the New Orleans Preservation Hall style of jazz. January 6, 2023: The Friday Jazz at Two Concert Series returns with the Trace Zacur Quartet. Performing in his first Jazz at Two last season, Trace Zacur amazed the audience with his explosive sax sound and high energy. Headlining this season with his own group, Zacur is sure to ignite the audience. A graduate of Berklee College of Music, and while there, he was one of the area’s top saxophonists. January 6, 2023: It's a Back to the 80s Block Party in downtown Sarasota. They’re keeping the totally rad block party on State Street from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. with special headliners, Stereotomy. The 80s cover band will be performing everything from Madonna and Cindy Lauper to Depeche Mode and Duran Duran, with all the Day-Glo glam of the iconic era. January 7 - 22, 2023: The Rain forest Masks of Costa Rica exhibition highlights the artistry of the Indigenous Boruca tribe of Costa Rica. For the 19th consecutive year, the Museum of Botany & the Arts will showcase hundreds of beautiful hand-carved and painted balsa wood masks featuring the stunning flora and fauna of the tropical rain forest. For a small fee, children and their parents and siblings can get out on the water with their choice of our equipment, and switch out at their whim — kayaks, canoes, stand-up paddleboards, a pedal pontoon boat, even a 15-foot sailboat with captain (masks required). $10 per person. $5 per adult with accompanying child. Free for children ages 6 and younger. Family maximum: $35 (for households of five or more) All must complete the waiver form. January 18 - March 12, 2023: Sarasota's Bayfront Park has been the backdrop for Embracing Our Differences' colorful, larger-than-life canvases integrating powerful imagery and thought-provoking messages celebrating diversity. The scale and impact of this outdoor exhibition has continued to grow. In 2022, 371,256 people visited the exhibition—bringing the total amount of visitors to more than 4 million since 2004. The 2023 Exhibit has had an impressive response to the call for artwork and inspirational quotes, with 13,733 entries pouring in from 119 countries and 45 states. Since graduating from the USF in 2015, he has made his living exclusively as a freelance musician. January 22 - April 30, 2023: This concert season, Sarasota Orchestra expands its community engagement tour known as “SO on the Road” to bring live music into local parks and cultural destinations. January 26, 2023: It's a Sarasota Orchestra Parks and Partners Children's Performance as The Sarasota Wind Quintet will perform a variety of kid-friendly music in the playground. The musicians will be set up inside the play area, and the show is specifically geared toward introducing classical music and wind instruments to the children. January 28, 2023: If you don't mind a short drive the downtown streets of Tampa host the Annual Gasparilla Festival from 9 a.m. - 9 p.m. The Gasparilla Invasion is from 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. complete with the annual re-enecatment of Tampa's historic pirate invasion at the Tampa Convention Center at 1 p.m. The invasion is free to the public. The Gasparilla Parade Of Pirates is from 2 p.m. - 6 p.m. and begins at Bay to Bay and Bayshore Boulevard. It continues along Bayshore Boulevard to Brorein Street, turns east on Brorein Street, then north on Ashley Drive. The parade ends at Cass Street & Ashley Drive. Free and open to the public. January 28, 2022: Cancelled due to cloudy skies. Check out some heavenly bodies during Sidewalk Astronomy courtesy of the local group of Deep Sky Observers. Telescopes will be up and available for public viewing from 6 p.m.. - 10 p.m. (weather permitting). The evening’s observing highlights will feature a veritable parade of planets: Venus, Mars and Jupiter will all be targets, and the evening's event will present the final opportunity to observe Saturn and its beautiful rings at Sidewalk Astronomy until September! Even the two most distant planets, Uranus and Neptune, will be observable through the telescopes during the course of the evening. Parking will be available in the large lot just WEST of the Nature Center building. The telescopes will be set up in the parking lot on the east side of the Nature Center.
