January 1, 2023: Take part in The First Day Hike and Scavenger Hunt at Oscar Scherer State Park. Hidden among six trails will be concealed signs for you to find. January 1, 2023: Clancy's Irish Pub in Bradenton sponsors their Annual Shamrock Shiver Charity Plunge with volunteers braving the chilly Gulf of Mexico waters of Bradenton Beach. The event will take place at noon on Bradenton Beach at Gulf Drive between 4th Street South and 12th Street South. All participants will be socially distanced to ensure the health and safety of our community. 100% of the proceeds will fund Feeding Empty Little Tummies, Healthy Teens Coalition of Manatee County, Inc., and Take Stock in Children of Manatee County, all 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organizations. January 1 - 2, 2023: It's time to lace up your skates for some wintertime fun at UTC. The Rink at UTC, presented by the Tampa Bay Rays daily through January 2nd. All visits must be reserved in advance by purchasing a timed ticket(s) online. The Rink is located in the East District at UTC, right next to PopStroke. January 1 - 5, 2023: More than two million lights shine and twinkle brightly during the Selby Gardens 19th annual "Lights in Bloom" celebration where you can explore and view life-size garden-themed holiday lights that transform the gardens into a tropical wonderland. Don’t miss a holiday photo opportunity, children’s arts and crafts, activities, and entertainment. January 2, 2023: It's Monday Night Jazz at the Florida Studio Theatre Court Cabaret. Monday Night Jazz at the Cabaret presents an exciting evening of jazz with top entertainment in an intimate cabaret setting in downtown Sarasota at the John C. Court Cabaret at FST; First St and Cocoanut Ave, Sarasota, FL. Concert begins at 7:30 p.m. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for food and beverage service. January 4, 2023: It's a free concert with live music with the Gentlemen of Jazz, which recreates the New Orleans Preservation Hall style of jazz. January 6, 2023: Sarasota County Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources is hosting another food truck rally at North Jetty Park! Come out for this free family friendly event. January 6, 2023: The Friday Jazz at Two Concert Series returns with the Trace Zacur Quartet. Performing in his first Jazz at Two last season, Trace Zacur amazed the audience with his explosive sax sound and high energy. Headlining this season with his own group, Zacur is sure to ignite the audience. A graduate of Berklee College of Music, and while there, he was one of the area’s top saxophonists. January 6, 2023: Dance along to the Music on Main at Lakewood Ranch with The Derek Lersch Band which will fill the air with high energy rockin’ country music from 6 p.m.- 9 p.m. Beer, wine and food. Check out the fountain area for a balloon twister, face painting and other fun. Bring your chairs, but leave coolers at home. Dogs are welcome, but must be kept on a short leash. January 6, 2023: It's a Back to the 80s Block Party in downtown Sarasota. They’re keeping the totally rad block party on State Street from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. with special headliners, Stereotomy. The 80s cover band will be performing everything from Madonna and Cindy Lauper to Depeche Mode and Duran Duran, with all the Day-Glo glam of the iconic era. January 6 - 7, 2023: It's the 10th Annual Shake, Rattle & Soul Fest with A Tribute to the music that shakes you, rattles you and moves your soul! This year’s Shake, Rattle and Soul Fest will feature tributes to Elvis Presley, Roy Orbison, Little Richard, Elton John, Cher and James Brown. It's all on the weekend of Elvis’ birthday with the Saturday night showing being a big Elvis Birthday Bash followed by a Birthday Party After hours! January 6 - 7, 2023: The Venice Symphony Returns to the Venice Performing Arts Center with "Night at the Museum." The Venice Symphony will transport you to your favorite museum with music from Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Mummy, Night at the Museum and The Da Vinci Code. Concertmaster Marcus Ratzenboeck dazzles with his violin solo on Camille Saint-Saens’ Danse Macabre. January 7 - 22, 2023: The Rain forest Masks of Costa Rica exhibition highlights the artistry of the Indigenous Boruca tribe of Costa Rica. For the 19th consecutive year, the Museum of Botany & the Arts will showcase hundreds of beautiful hand-carved and painted balsa wood masks featuring the stunning flora and fauna of the tropical rain forest. Proceeds from mask sales support the Borucan village and also benefit Selby Gardens' education, research, horticulture, and scientific work. January 9, 2023: (Deadline to enter the Gulf Coast Games for Life.) January 14, 2023 - February 5, 2023: It's the 34th Annual Gulf Coast Games for Life. This multi-sport event program is for adults 50 and over. Events take place in Sarasota County, Manatee County and the City of North Port. There are16 events: 5K Road Race, Bag Toss (Corn Hole), Basketball Shooting, Bocce Ball, Bowling, Cycling, Golf, Pickleball, RaceWalk/Power Walk, Racquetball, Rowing an Paddle, Shuffleboard, Swimming, Table Tennis, Target Shooting, Track and Field. January 10, 2020: The park is still closed, due to Hurricane Ian recovery, with a reopening date still to be determined. No concerts have been booked yet. It's the Moon Over Myakka Concert Series 2020 at the South Pavilion with the music of Maiden Cane. 7 p.m. Bring a chair and a picnic! Cost: $25 per person ($20 for Friends members). January 11, 2023: The first NBP Rec Day! of 2022!  This is a great opportunity for natural sound and family-friendly imagery on the water. For a small fee, children and their parents and siblings can get out on the water with their choice of our equipment, and switch out at their whim — kayaks, canoes, stand-up paddleboards, a pedal pontoon boat, even a 15-foot sailboat with captain (masks required). $10 per person. $5 per adult with accompanying child. Free for children ages 6 and younger. Family maximum: $35 (for households of five or more) All must complete the waiver form. January 12 - 16, 2023: The Sarasota Winter Carnival is returning to The Mall at UTC. Located in parking lot 4, it will feature 20+ carnival rides, games, food and more! January 13, 2023: The Friday Jazz at Two Concert Series returns with Kitt Moran and the Mike Moran Trio. Enjoy music from the American Songbook and jazz standards. Before moving to Florida, Kitt Moran and Mike Moran performed in top jazz clubs in NJ and NYC including Michael's Pub, the Village Vanguard, The Blue Note, Gregory’s, Gulliver's, Trumpets and Shanghai Jazz; also Bally’s, Las Vegas and many Atlantic City casinos. The Moran’s perform regularly in Sarasota and Charlotte counties. Joining them are Dominic Mancini, bass & Steve Silverstein, drums. January 13, 2023: It's the Free Music Friday Night Concert. Enjoy the music of The Assisted Living Band in downtown's Centennial Park. January 18 - March 12, 2023: Sarasota's Bayfront Park has been the backdrop for Embracing Our Differences' colorful, larger-than-life canvases integrating powerful imagery and thought-provoking messages celebrating diversity. The scale and impact of this outdoor exhibition has continued to grow. In 2022, 371,256 people visited the exhibition—bringing the total amount of visitors to more than 4 million since 2004. The 2023 Exhibit has had an impressive response to the call for artwork and inspirational quotes, with 13,733 entries pouring in from 119 countries and 45 states. Students from 424 schools around the world submitted artwork or quotes.. (Park entrance is located at the corner of Ringling Boulevard and Bayfront Drive/US Route 41). January 18 - April 12, 2023: Enjoy the Bayfront Gardens at The Ringling for Acoustic Sunsets with a solo musician on Ca' d'Zan Terrace! This event will feature a solo or duo musical group performing acoustic music as the sun sets on beautiful Sarasota Bay. Food and beverages will be available for purchase. 5:30 p.m. $15 Members. Tickets will be available 30 days prior to each event. In the case that there are tickets still available one week prior to each event, members will be able to purchase up to 4 guest tickets for $20 each. January 19 - 22, 2023: The St. Petersburg Power & Sailboat Show is the Largest Boat Show on the Gulf Coast. Explore an impressive selection of powerboats and sailboats in-water & on-land, including a 40,000 sq. ft. tent housing an extraordinary display of marine gear and accessories. Thursday (1/19) from 10am-6pm, Friday (1/20) from 10am-6pm, Saturday (1/21) from 10am-7pm, Sunday (1/22) from 10am-5pm. General admission tickets are $21. Kids (15 & under) are FREE. January 20, 2023: The Friday Jazz at Two Concert Series returns with the Paul Gavin Quartet. Paul Gavin is a drummer, teacher, composer and arranger. Since graduating from the USF in 2015, he has made his living exclusively as a freelance musician. Gavin’s Mosaic band performed highly acclaimed tribute to Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers and to Miles Davis. The band will be swingin’. Don’t miss it! Featuring everything from kitchens and baths to landscapers and pools, solar, builders, contractors and more, you'll pick up some great ideas or find just the folks who can help you with everything for your home. January 20 - 22, 2023: Delicious foods, live music and shopping thru a marketplace of arts, crafts and fine products are all features of the 4th Annual Englewood Seafood & Music Festival. For food, choose from a variety of seafood, meat and vegetarian dishes all cooked fresh on site. Listen to Florida’s top musical groups from genres such as R&B, blues, jazz, rock and Caribbean sounds. During breaks between performances, enjoy time shopping a marketplace of fine arts, crafts, and select fine products and food items. Free admission. January 21, 2023: In shape? Join hundreds of other runners for the 23rd annual  Scrub Jay 5K & 10K run at Oscar Scherer State Park. Registration required for the race. January 22 - April 30, 2023: This concert season, Sarasota Orchestra expands its community engagement tour known as “SO on the Road” to bring live music into local parks and cultural destinations. January 26, 2023: It's a Sarasota Orchestra Parks and Partners Children's Performance as The Sarasota Wind Quintet will perform a variety of kid-friendly music in the playground. The musicians will be set up inside the play area, and the show is specifically geared toward introducing classical music and wind instruments to the children. January 28, 2023:  If you don't mind a short drive the downtown streets of Tampa host the Annual Gasparilla Festival from 9 a.m. - 9 p.m. The Gasparilla Invasion is from 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. complete with the annual re-enecatment of Tampa's historic pirate invasion at the Tampa Convention Center at 1 p.m. The invasion is free to the public. The Gasparilla Parade Of Pirates is from 2 p.m. - 6 p.m. and begins at Bay to Bay and Bayshore Boulevard. It continues along Bayshore Boulevard to Brorein Street, turns east on Brorein Street, then north on Ashley Drive. The parade ends at Cass Street & Ashley Drive. Free and open to the public. January 28, 2022: Cancelled due to cloudy skies. Check out some heavenly bodies during Sidewalk Astronomy courtesy of the local group of Deep Sky Observers. Telescopes will be up and available for public viewing from 6 p.m.. - 10 p.m. (weather permitting). The evening’s observing highlights will feature a veritable parade of planets: Venus, Mars and Jupiter will all be targets, and the evening's event will present the final opportunity to observe Saturn and its beautiful rings at Sidewalk Astronomy until September! Even the two most distant planets, Uranus and Neptune, will be observable through the telescopes during the course of the evening. Parking will be available in the large lot just WEST of the Nature Center building. The telescopes will be set up in the parking lot on the east side of the Nature Center.
