January 1, 2021: Clancy's Irish Pub in Bradenton sponsors their 13th Annual Shamrock Shiver Charity Plunge with volunteers braving the chilly Gulf of Mexico waters of Bradenton Beach to raise donations for Caring for Children Charities to help disadvantaged children of Manatee & Sarasota Counties. The challenge takes place at noon on Bradenton Beach at Gulf Drive between 4th Street South and 12th Street South, Anna Maria Island, FL. January 1 - 3, 2021: Enjoy Asolo Rep's Holiday Concert, "We Need a Little Christmas." The stage will be set up outside and seating will be limited to 200 per show. All tickets are advance sale until 2 hours before each show. No walk-up sales. Actors will perform in 12-foot bubbles and audience seating will be widely spaced out. Masks and temperature checks will be required for audience members. Portable restrooms will be available as audience members will not have access to the building. There will be no concession sales. January 1 - 3, 2021: Check out "A Digital Old-Fashioned Christmas" by Manatee Village Historical Park. Normally, the museum holds an annual event called “An Old Florida Christmas” on site. Due to COVID-19, this year will be different. While the museum will not be having an in-person event, they are excited to offer a different, free digital event called “A Digital Old-Fashioned Christmas.” This special event for 2020 will include a story time, a craft, and a recipe. The public is invited to view “A Digital Old-Fashioned Christmas” from the comfort of their own homes. Those who access the digital event will be able to enjoy the Manatee Village Historical Park version of “The Night Before Christmas” which includes a funny twist. Museum staff will show how to make orange & clove pomanders, an easy Holiday decoration that smells fresh and spicy. January 1 - February 28, 2021: The Photoville FENCE makes its third consecutive appearance at Nathan Benderson Park.The public photography project is exhibited year-round in major parks and downtowns across North America. Featuring more than 90 photographers annually, the exhibition brings compelling visual stories into the public realm, and to a wide and diverse audience. As an outdoor exhibition, social distancing is a distinct built-in feature of the show.“The local show also includes a showcase of seven Florida photographers, judged separately from the international show. The Photoville Fence will appear on the upper finish tower parking lot, on both sides of a chain-link fence between the two bridges onto the park’s Regatta Island. January 9 - 31, 2021: It's the Rainforest Masks of Costa Rica Exhibit and Sale at Selby Gardens. Rainforest Masks of Costa Rica showcases artists from the Borucan Indian tribe. Join us and experience the vibrant, hand-carved, and painted balsa wood masks on display in the Museum of Botany & the Arts at our Downtown Sarasota campus. It's a celebration of circus history and heritage as The 33rd Annual Circus Ring of Fame induction ceremony takes place in St. Armand's Circle Park. January 10 - April 25, 2021: Due to the temperature forecast for January 10, outdoor concerts at Benderson Park and Bay Preserve (Osprey) are cancelled to avoid any risk of damage to valuable musical instruments. Please see their list of future Parks and Partners dates for the next opportunity to enjoy live music in warmer weather. This concert season, Sarasota Orchestra expands its community engagement tour known as “SO on the Road” to bring live music into local parks and cultural destinations. While admission is free, attendees will be required to register to hold a seat at performances. Registration will open on Eventbrite one month prior to concerts. Events take place in Sarasota County, Manatee County and the City of North Port. In 2019 there were 16 events: Bag Toss (Corn Hole), Basketball Shooting, Bocce Ball, Bowling, Cribbage, Cycling, Golf, Horseshoes, Pickleball, Racquetball, Shuffleboard, Swimming, Table Tennis, Target Shooting, Track and Field, and Volleyball. January 12, 2021: No Bridge Run in 2021. UPDATE: The Annual Ringling Bridge Run, usually held each year in January was first tentatively moved to March for 2020 in the hopes of being able to continue the run. Unfortunately due to complications, we assume, from the change over at the Sarasota YMCA in 2019, they are not able to hold the Bridge Run in 2020. January 14, 2021: The Bridge Jazz Concert series is a collaborative project with the Jazz Club of Sarasota, Fogartyville/WSLR, and SAMBA, a group of area jazz enthusiasts anxious to bridge the void of excellent jazz performances created by the pandemic. This four evening monthly series will feature 2 sets of incredible music each show. This show will feature the groups Ariella and The Barker Project. Shows also on Feb 18, Mar. 18, Apr 15. This live-streamed event will also allow for a very limited live audience with safe and responsible social distancing. It's the 6th Annual Sarasota Seafood and Music Festival featuring family entertainment, local bands with a variety of live music, food vendors, arts and crafts vendors, kids activities, magicians, face painters and more. Live musical performances in genres from rock, jazz, R&B, big band, calypso and Caribbean sounds. Performers on Friday night are: RJ Howson (R&B, blues, rock), JP Soars & The Red Hots (soul, blues) and the Black Honkeys (rock, soul). January 16, 2021: Derek Lersch will take the stage on the plaza at CoolToday Park for Party on the Plaza, their first live show of 2021. Lersch is a rising star on the country music circuit. He was raised in Lakewood Ranch and spent some time in Nashville on his musical journey. This country concert will take place on the Plaza out in front of CoolToday Park, in a safe outdoor and socially distant environment. January 17, 2022: Come out for Ringling by the Bay featuring live music and dancing with Big Z Band on the Bolger Campiello. Food and drinks available for purchase. 6 p.m. - 9 p.m. Tickets will be available approx. one month prior to each event, and will include a 24 hour pre-sale period for members. January 18, 2021: No live vocalist auditions this year but video auditions! The Pittsburgh Pirates, this year, are inviting Manatee School District bands, choirs and orchestras to submit a video for a virtual audition. The Pirates will select a video to be played on their video board before each spring training home game. The video and audio must be high quality in order to be considered. January 18, 2020: Canceled for 2021. All children (up to age 12) are invited to take part in the Buckaroo Bike Rodeo! Presented by People for Trees and the North Port Kiwanis Club, this is the bike rodeo that was originally planned for October 19, 2019 but was cancelled due to inclement weather. A bike rodeo is not a competition between participants but rather allows young riders to test their bike riding skills at various stations such as “ZigZag”, “Stop on a Dime”, and “Figure 8” earning points that can be redeemed for prizes. The top scoring riders will be eligible to enter raffles for one of three free bikes in the age groups of 5-7, 8-9, 10-12. There will also be a Bike Safety Check station and Helmet Fittings/Giveaways provided by the Friends of the Legacy Trail. Children need to bring a helmet, bike, and a parent/guardian. Proudly showcasing their outstanding St. Armands Circle restaurants as they share a sampling of some of their delicious recipes. January 30, 2021:The Van Wezel is proud to announce a partnership with Impact100 SRQ to host the Mayors’ Feed the Hungry food drive.
