February 1, 2020: Check out the 26th Annual Sarasota Highland Games and Celtic Festival at the Sarasota County Fairgrounds.  Enjoy the sound of bagpipes, drums, Highland dancing and athletic events, Border Collie demonstrations, kid's games and events and all things Scottish. 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. rain or shine. 3000 Ringling Blvd, Sarasota, FL.

February 1, 2020: Young and old are invited to Sarasota Modern Quilt Guild's 5th annual "Airing of the Quilts: Quilt Show and Sale." See not only modern quilts made by talented members of the guild but there will also be quilts and other boutique items for sale along with food trucks offering tasty treats. Quilts will be hung under and around the Big Pavilion in a beautiful beach-side park. Admission is free! 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Maxine Barritt Park (near Sharkey's and the pier) at 1800 S. February 1, 2020: Check out some heavenly bodies during Sidewalk Astronomy courtesy of the local group of Deep Sky Observers. February 1 - 2, 2020: The Venice Area Orchid Society presents their 53rd annual show and sale. Thousands of blooming orchids will be for sale and on display in 15 artistically designed exhibits. Orchid art, accessories and supplies will also be for sale. Widely regarded as the most popular orchid show on Florida's west coast. February 1 - 2, 2020: The 11th Annual Sarasota Masters Art Festival features 50 or more of the nations' finest artists with their one of a kind works in categories including oil, acrylic and watercolor paintings, sculpture, ceramics, fine jewelry and blown glass. February 1 - 3, 2019: Venice Airport will once again host The Wings of Freedom Tour. On display and available for walk through tours will be the B-17 Flying Fortress, a B-25 Liberator and TF-51D Mustang. Walk through tours are $15 adults, $5 for 12 and under. WWII vets get into the ground tours free. Walk through tour times are: Fri - Sun: 9 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.  Flight Experiences take place before and after tours. February 1 - 8, 2020: The largest public photo exhibition in North America will return to Sarasota this fall and winter, this time including a showcase of the best from Gulf Coast photographers. “The Fence” will appear on Nathan Benderson Park’s Regatta Island. The exhibit will appear on both sides of a fence between the island’s twin bridges. Participating artists’ work spans the categories of creatures, home, people, streets, nature, food and play. Each photo series is comprised of as many as five images that share a thematic connection or tell a story. February Sarasota Events

February 1 - 9, 2020: It's the 31st Annual Gulf Coast Games for Life. This multi-sport event program is for adults 50 and over. Events take place in Sarasota County, Manatee County and the City of North Port. In 2019 there were 16 events: Bag Toss (Corn Hole), Basketball Shooting, Bocce Ball, Bowling, Cribbage, Cycling, Golf, Horseshoes, Pickleball, Racquetball, Shuffleboard, Swimming, Table Tennis, Target Shooting, Track and Field, and Volleyball. One-time registration fee of $12. Entry fee of $3 per event. Bowling and golf have a facility fee. Registration deadline: Jan. 13, 2020. Call 941-861-PARK (7275) to register by phone.

February 2, 2020: Run for a song and rock your way along! The 5th Annual  Sarasota Music Half Marathon will be a 10K and new 5K courses that will start and end at the Van Wezel Performing Arts Center parking lot and will wind its way through Selby Gardens, up Orange Avenue into the Cherokee Park neighborhood, back through Selby Gardens and finish back at Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall. There will also be 20 bands along with cheerleaders, lawn parties, crowds and energy and after party. Starts at 6:30 a.m. Sarasota, FL.

February 2, 2020: Enjoy Sarasota's own Ski-A-Rees Water Ski Team and their 1st Sunday afternoon show of the new season at 2 p.m. at Ski-A-Ree Stadium. This free show takes place at 1602 Ken Thompson Parkway (near/behind Mote Marine Aquarium on the water.) 2 p.m. 388-1666.

February 2 - 3, 2019: You're invited to the 19th Annual Plantation Festival at Gamble Mansion and Plantation. Enjoy an arts and crafts show, a student art competition, free tours of the Gamble Mansion, food and beverage vendors and more. 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Free admission and $1 donation for parking. Directions: Exit 224 from I-75. Head west for 1 mile on US 301. Look for the Landmark white picket fence and turn right into the main park entrance. 3708 Patten Avenue, Ellenton, FL.

February 2 - 3, 2019: Billed as the Sarasolo Festival, this 2 weekend event will feature 16 local and international solo performers featuring a variety of performances from improv to musical, story telling to dance, plays, cabaret, stand up and more featuring a selection of some of our best local performers. Numerous and varied performances and show times during the fest's schedule (Also January 26 - 27, 2019). Tickets: $15. The Historic Crocker Memorial Church, 1260 12th Street, Sarasota. February 3, 2020: Come out for Ringling by the Bay featuring live music and dancing with Vertigo on the Bolger Campiello. Food and drinks available for purchase. 6 p.m. - 9 p.m. Admission: $5 - $15. February 4, 2020: It's the 17th Annual Anna Maria Jazz Fest. Jazz Fest. Line up to be announced. Proceeds benefit the Anna Maria Island Concert Chorus and Orchestra. Sarasota Pet Fest

February:  On indefinite hiatus, this event may return at a later date, according to organizers. It's the 6th annual Celebration of Pets Fest at the Sarasota Fairgrounds. There will be pet adoptions; cats/kittens – puppies/dogs. Fun for the whole family including a wiener dog derby and live music. Free parking, admission $5 for adults. Kids 6 & under & leashed pets are free and welcome. February 4 - 5, 2020: It's a free concert with live music on Tuesday with the Happy Time Band and Wednesday with the Gentlemen of Jazz. Enjoy the tunes from 3 p.m. - 5 p.m. These free concerts take place in Centennial Park's Gazebo in downtown Venice, FL.

February 5 - 8, 2020: Quilts, quilts & more quilts are the highlights of the Palm Grove Amish Quilt & Craft Show. See beautiful quilts of all sizes (mostly Amish made) and a variety of handmade crafts for sale and watch quilters at work. You can surely find one you'll like. $3 admission donation for charity to a Haiti Mission Project. Wed - Fri: 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Sat: 8 a.m. - noon. February 6, 2020: Enjoy the free Brown Bag Concert Series at Phillippi Estate Park every Thursday from noon - 1 p.m. through March 26. February 6, 2020: Get groovin' in the courtyard at Ringling Underground where you can enjoy live music in the Museum of Art Courtyard. An eclectic mix of local and regional live music is featured in the series. Plus check out up and coming artists with select galleries open until 11 p.m. 8 p.m. - 11 p.m.  Admission: $15. February 6 - 9, 2020: It's the 36th Annual "Greek Glendi - A Greek Festival."  Food and festivities abound from traditional Greek food & pastries to live Greek music and dancing. Thursday - Saturday: 11 a.m. - 9 p.m, Sunday: Noon - 8 p.m. Admission is $4, kids under 12 free. February 6 - 17, 2020: The Florida State Fair takes place and gates open daily at 9 a.m.The fairgrounds are at 4800 U.S. 301N. Tampa. You can also get there via I-75. (From I-75 N, take exit 261 to merge onto I-4 W toward Tampa. Take exit 7 to merge onto FL-600 W/E Hillsborough Ave/US-92 W toward US-301 W/Busch Gardens. Take the ramp to Riverview, Merge onto FL-41 S/FL-43 S/US-301 S. Continue to follow FL-43 S/US-301 S - fairgrounds will be on the right).  I've gotten there in about 75 minutes from Sarasota. February 7, 2020: Get your toes tapping at "Jazz at Two" with the Sarasota Jazz Project Big Band. One of the finest big bands in the Bay area, the Sarasota Jazz Project is dedicated to the preservation, promotion and performance of big band jazz music. The band is comprised of the best available local musicians, many with resumes and careers in performing with name bands and other well known jazz musicians. Directed by George McLain, co-founder. February 7, 2020: It's the first Friday of the month so that means Music on Main at Lakewood Ranch from 6 p.m. - 9 p.m! Beer, wine and food sales plus check out the fountain area for a balloon twister, face painting, and more fun. Bring your chairs, but leave coolers at home. Dogs are welcome, but must be kept on a short leash. Overflow parking is available at the Lakewood Ranch Medical Center. Lakewood Ranch is off University Parkway east of I-75. February 7, 2020: It's the Moon Over Myakka Concert Series 2020 at the South Pavilion with Ventura Highway and Southern Cross. 7 p.m. Bring a chair and a picnic! February 7 - 9, 2020: The Sarasota Shell Club presents its 57th Annual Shell Show! Whether a serious shell lover or seeking a new shell idea, the Sarasota Shell Show is one of the largest shell shows in the world and the perfect place for new creative ideas for you! Beautiful shell crafts and rare shell exhibits are displayed from around the world. February 7 - 9, 2020: See historic stamps during the Sarasota Philatelic Club's Sarasota National Stamp Exhibition. This is part of the American Philatelic Society's "World Series of Philately" program. It's the largest annual Florida stamp show and exhibition. They offer free appraisals, seminars and door prizes. February 7, 2020 - March 1, 2020: Ladies & Gentleman, Boys & Girls....It's Circus Sarasota celebrating 23 years of Big Top Performances. Previous headliners have included comic daredevil, Sarasota's own international star, Bello Nock and Sarasota's high wire artist, Nik Wallenda. The all new winter production features 33 performances under the Red and White Big Top at various times, dates and ticket prices. Every year features a new cast in an intimate one-ring European style Big Top. This year’s show features incredible artistry on the flag pole and single trapeze, fast paced Alanian riders on horseback, hand-to-hand acrobatics, juggling and much more! February 8, 2020: Water sports is the order of the day at the 6th annual  Bradenton Area River Regatta on the Manatee River just east of the Green Bridge. Watch the boat races from either the Bradenton or Palmetto river fronts or on the bridge itself. It's a free event featuring Formula 2 powerboat racing. The daylong fest will also feature live music on two stages in both Bradenton and Palmetto, a food fest, a fireworks finale over the river and much more. It's ranked as one of the Top 100 Fine Arts Shows in the country by a national artists magazine. February 9, 2020: The State College of Florida Foundation (SCFF) will host the 18th annual Sundays at Neel entertainment series through  March 22, 2020. The series continues with: The James Taylor Experience with the Fire & Rain Band - Lead guitarist Greg Pitts spent years mastering Taylor's distinctive style in order to capture the intimate energy of a 1970's Taylor concert. February 9, 2019: There's a street party for you: "Main Street Live!" on Historic Old Main Street in downtown Bradenton from 5 p.m. - 12  a.m. with live music. The event also features food vendors and arts and crafts. Music ends at 10 p.m. but Old Main Street will remain closed until midnight.

February 9, 2019: The one-day festival called The Hawkins Road Festival provides space and activities to celebrate community through music, art, spirituality, and social awareness. The fest will feature, among other things, Live local music, food and beverage vendors, captivating speakers, activities for kids & teens, topics surrounding spirit and social awareness, beer & wine (after 4 p.m.), art & craft exhibits, community organizations and much more. February 10, 2019: Enjoy the Backyard Concert Series at Summerfield Park in Lakewood Ranch. The free concerts take place on the 2nd Sunday of the month. Featuring live music from The Music Makers, there will also be food trucks on site or bring your own picnic (no glass) for live music in the park. February 10, 2020: Check out the Jazz Club of Sarasota Monday Night Jazz at the Florida Studio Theatre Cabaret Series with Chuchito Valdes. Chuchito Valdes, following in the footsteps of his famed father Chucho Valdes and grandfather Bebo Valdes, continues the legacy of great piano players form Cuba.  With influences of Caribbean rhythms and jazz, Chuchito creates an exciting and energetic blend of spicy music that drives audiences wild. He has also performed at festivals, clubs and concerts throughout the world: from Cuba and the Caribbean to North America, South America, and Europe.Members $35; non members $39. February 14, 2020: Get your toes tapping at "Jazz at Two" with Al Hixon's Underheard Herd. With his Underheard Herd,  Al has introduced many newcomers and some top jazz artists to the area and the Jazz Club audience. February 14, 2019: It may not be quite the Tennessee Bird Walk but the Siesta Key Village Valentine Stroll offers live music throughout the village and free candy kisses from the merchants. Participating merchants will have pink and red balloons outside their businesses. Free admission. 5 p.m. - 8 p.m. Siesta Key Village. There will be pedicab and golf cart cab services from the Siesta Public Beach parking lot to the Village.

February 14, 2019: Celebrate Valentines Day at the Beach with love and romance: Renew your wedding vows and say “I Do” all over again on Siesta Key Beach in a non-denominational service. Couples of all ages and length of marriage gather for the annual group renewal of vows at the Siesta Beach Pavilion, presided over by a 12th Judicial Circuit Court Judge. Event begins at 5 p.m. but couples are encouraged to arrive as early as 4:30 p.m. to check in. It’s a tradition that dates to 1989 and it’s open to all, but you must pre-register by Feb. 11. February 14, 2019: Now you may say "I Do" all over again in a new second location for Valentine's Day. This event, originally only at Siesta Beach, has grown so popular over the years that a second location has been added at Nokomis Beach, with one of the most beautiful views of the Gulf of Mexico in the area. As in the event at Siesta Beach, you must pre-register by Feb. 11. Call 941-861-5000. There's a $10 per couple fee ($20 on site, day of event) and includes a certificate, a commemorative gift, flower, music on the beach and light refreshments. February 14, 2019: Have you renewal of Vows and Valentine's Dinner at the bayside Powel Crosley Estate on Valentine's Day. The renewal of vows starts at 5:00 p.m., in time for photographs on the sunset. Complimentary champagne toast for all of couples. February 15 - 16, 2020: It's the 38th Annual Cortez Commercial Fishing Festival and it is held in the historic fishing village of Cortez, Florida.  It celebrates the rich heritage of the area's commercial fishing industry and features two days of marine life exhibits, seafood, events for kids and live music. It runs from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. East end of town adjacent to the Florida Maritime Museum located at 4425 119th St. West, Cortez, Florida. February 16, 2019: It's the start of the annual Florida Cracker Trail Ride. Manatee Village Members of the Florida Cracker Trail Association will ride on horseback through Manatee Village Historical Park, stopping for photographs with Manatee Village’s commemoration plaque to Manatee County’s Cracker heritage, as they begin their annual Trail Ride. Manatee Village Historical Park will be open  so that visitors can see the start of this 8 day, cross-state ride. February 16, 2019: The Lakewood Ranch 13th Annual Youth Fishing Tournament happens at Lake Uihlein (behind Town Hall) from 9 a.m. - Noon. This "catch and release" fishing tournament is for different age groups: 5-8, 9-11, and 12-15. Prizes will be awarded for the various age categories. February 16, 2019: Batter up! The Orioles invite fans to celebrate the start of Spring Training at Sarasota SpringFest, a free, family-friendly event for fans of all ages. Along with watching Orioles pitchers and catchers practice on the back fields, fans can also enjoy games and interactive activities in the stadium. The event will feature a question and answer session with Orioles outfielder Cedric Mullins at approximately 12:30 p.m. Fans will once again have opportunities to play catch on the Ed Smith Stadium field, take a behind-the-scenes tour of the ballpark, and participate in a “Pitch for Charity” event to benefit Miracle League of Manasota, scheduled for approximately 12:00 p.m. at the Left Field Pavilion. Fans may purchase balls, ranging in price from $3-$10, at the event entrance and test their skill by pitching from the Pavilion into a target on the main field. Field conditions permitting, two sessions of “Have A Catch” will be offered on the main field, at approximately 10:00 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. Access is first-come, first-served, and participants must bring their own gloves and sign a liability waiver. February 23, 2019: The Rubonia Mardi Gras Parade returns for another year after being on hiatus for a couple of years. The traditional Mardi Gras style parade, in this small Manatee County town, is scheduled to step off at noon just north of the I-275 overpass at Bayshore Rd and 79th Street East. Bring a lawn chair to view the parade from plus there are numerous front yard vendors selling seafood and BBQ on the streets that run off of Bayshore Road. February 23, 2019: The Baltimore Orioles will play their first of 17 home Spring Training games at 1:05 p.m. against the Minnesota Twins. The game launches an historic season in which the Orioles will reach the milestone of one million fans attending Orioles Spring Training games in Sarasota. Within the first three games, the Orioles will celebrate the “ONE MILLIONTH FAN” to attend an Orioles Spring Training game in Sarasota. The ballclub will select one fan at random on the day the milestone is reached to represent the one million fans. Each home will host culinary and cocktail demonstrations by chefs, local artists and musicians, and designers so visitors can not only enjoy the architectural design and decoration of the homes, but will come away with tips and tricks on how to entertain in their own homes. It will be a vintage collector’s paradise with offerings from a variety of artists who create wearable clothing and accessories that feature vintage photographs and who specialize in re-purposing vintage apparel. Also find wall hangings crafted from stained glass and natural elements to sculpted work and intricate jewelry created from antique buttons, sterling silver and semi-precious stones. February 29, 2020: It's the Manatee Sunrise Kiwanis club's 1st Annual Cornhole & Cocktails Festival, a fun event with indoor cornhole, music, food, drinks, door prizes and raffles. There will be restaurants with samples of their food and cocktails along with breweries and wineries with samples of their selections! Eric Von will be performing live music from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.! Manatee County Fairgrounds, 1402 14th Avenue W., Palmetto, FL. 21 and older. Free parking is available on the fairgrounds.

February 29, 2020: It's the 1st Annual Concert Under the Stars. Join us for our 1st evening concert. There will not be a concert on this date for another 4 years! Popular local band “Passerine” with an opening act. Fun kid’s activities. Bring blankets and chairs to enjoy the music under the stars at Lake Osprey picnic area.
