February 1, 2020: Canceled for 2021 Next event February 5, 2022. Check out the 26th Annual Sarasota Highland Games and Celtic Festival at the Sarasota County Fairgrounds.  Enjoy the sound of bagpipes, drums, Highland dancing and athletic events, Border Collie demonstrations, kid's games and events and all things Scottish. 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. rain or shine. 3000 Ringling Blvd, Sarasota, FL.

February 1 - 2, 2020: Canceled for 2021. The Venice Area Orchid Society presents their 53rd annual show and sale. Thousands of blooming orchids will be for sale and on display in 15 artistically designed exhibits. Orchid art, accessories and supplies will also be for sale. Widely regarded as the most popular orchid show on Florida's west coast. Sat: 10 a.m. - 5 p.m., Sun: 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.  Admission is $5.00, children under 10 free. Venice Community Center, 326 S. February 1 - 2, 2020: TBA for 2021. The 11th Annual Sarasota Masters Art Festival features 50 or more of the nations' finest artists with their one of a kind works in categories including oil, acrylic and watercolor paintings, sculpture, ceramics, fine jewelry and blown glass. Live entertainment, food vendors too. Free admission. 10 a.m - 5 p.m. Gulf Stream Avenue on the corner of Main and Rt. 41, downtown Sarasota, FL.

February 1 - 7, 2021: It's the 32nd Annual Gulf Coast Games for Life. This multi-sport event program is for adults 50 and over. Events take place in Sarasota County, Manatee County and the City of North Port. In 2019 there were 16 events: Bag Toss (Corn Hole), Basketball Shooting, Bocce Ball, Bowling, Cribbage, Cycling, Golf, Horseshoes, Pickleball, Racquetball, Shuffleboard, Swimming, Table Tennis, Target Shooting, Track and Field, and Volleyball. One-time registration fee of $12. Entry fee of $3 per event. Bowling and golf have a facility fee. Registration deadline: Jan. 11, 2021. Call 941-861-PARK (7275) to register by phone.

February 1 - 28, 2021: The Photoville FENCE makes its third consecutive appearance at Nathan Benderson Park.The public photography project is exhibited year-round in major parks and downtowns across North America. Featuring more than 90 photographers annually, the exhibition brings compelling visual stories into the public realm, and to a wide and diverse audience. As an outdoor exhibition, social distancing is a distinct built-in feature of the show.“The local show also includes a showcase of seven Florida photographers, judged separately from the international show. The Photoville Fence will appear on the upper finish tower parking lot, on both sides of a chain-link fence between the two bridges onto the park’s Regatta Island. February 1 - May 17, 2021: Enjoy the Bayfront Gardens at The Ringling for Acoustic Sunsets with a solo musician on Ca' d'Zan Terrace! This socially distanced event will feature live music with food and drink for purchase. Tickets are limited and must be purchased in advance. Masks are encouraged when social distancing isn't possible. Enjoy a relaxing evening of music during sunset. Sandwiches, snacks, and drinks will be available for purchase on the terrace, and The Ringling Grillroom is offering other tasty items for pre-order. Please pre-order your items 24 hours in advance. For pick-up, just stop by The Ringling Grillroom in the Visitors Pavilion. Orders can be available after 4:00 pm. $20 / $18 Members. Tickets will be available 30 days prior to each event. February 2, 2020: Canceled for 2021. Run for a song and rock your way along! The 5th Annual  Sarasota Music Half Marathon will be a 10K and new 5K courses that will start and end at the Van Wezel Performing Arts Center parking lot and will wind its way through Selby Gardens, up Orange Avenue into the Cherokee Park neighborhood, back through Selby Gardens and finish back at Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall. There will also be 20 bands along with cheerleaders, lawn parties, crowds and energy and after party. Starts at 6:30 a.m. Sarasota, FL.

February 3, 2021: Enjoy world-class performances by local performing arts organizations at the Sunken Garden on Little Sarasota Bay. This performance is by Choral Artists of Sarasota, Marching to Freedom.Historic Spanish Point Campus.  6 p.m.- 8 p.m. Food and beverages available for purchase. February 3, 2022: Check out Ringling Underground with local and regional live music in the museum courtyard while up and coming artists showcase their works also in the museum courtyard. 8 p.m. - 11 p.m. Admission: $15. February 4 - March 25, 2021: The Brown Bag Concert series begins the first Thursday in February and continues to the last Thursday in March. Adding new local musicians. Bring your lawn chair and lunch, relax and enjoy wonderful music in a delightful park setting. 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. Free admission and Free parking. February 4, 2020: Postponed for 2021. May be rescheduled later in  the year. It's the 17th Annual Anna Maria Jazz Fest. The Gulf Drive Duo will perform along with Koko Ray and Matt Coates. Koko is an outstanding vocalist and plays two saxes at the same time! He has been a Jazz Fest guest performer for many years and always presents a first-class performance. Local vocalist Matt Coates returns and will play a full variety of music from the 1940s to 2000s. Proceeds benefit the Anna Maria Island Concert Chorus and Orchestra. 3 p.m. - 5 p.m. Sandbar Restaurant Pavilion, 100 Spring Ave, Anna Maria Island. Sarasota Pet Fest

February:  On indefinite hiatus, this event may return at a later date, according to organizers. It's the 6th annual Celebration of Pets Fest at the Sarasota Fairgrounds. There will be pet adoptions; cats/kittens – puppies/dogs. Fun for the whole family including a wiener dog derby and live music. Free parking, admission $5 for adults. Kids 6 & under & leashed pets are free and welcome. February 4 - 5, 2020: TBD for 2021. It's a free concert with live music on Tuesday with the Happy Time Band and Wednesday with the Gentlemen of Jazz. Enjoy the tunes from 3 p.m. - 5 p.m. These free concerts take place in Centennial Park's Gazebo in downtown Venice, FL.

February 5, 2021: The Venice Symphony presents  Brilliant Brass and Percussion. Join the symphony for the premier of their 3rd virtual concert, recorded at tehe Venice Performing Arts Center. This concert is free and available on demand after 7:30 p.m. February 5, 2021.

February 5, 2021: Canceled TFN. It's the first Friday of the month so that means Music on Main at Lakewood Ranch from 6 p.m. - 9 p.m! Beer, wine and food sales plus check out the fountain area for a balloon twister, face painting, and more fun. Bring your chairs, but leave coolers at home. Dogs are welcome, but must be kept on a short leash. Overflow parking is available at the Lakewood Ranch Medical Center. Lakewood Ranch is off University Parkway east of I-75. February 6, 2021: It's the 1st First Saturday Cleanup of 2021! Sign up here. Part of the Keep Manatee Beautiful campaign, this event takes place at Coquina Beach. Join your fellow citizens. They will have a table set up at the bus loop for you to check-in and pick up supplies. 9 a.m. - 11 a.m. Coquina Beach, Anna Maria Island, FL.

February 6, 2021: Due to COVID and healthy practices, the 2021 Airing of the Quilts is canceled. Young and old are invited to Sarasota Modern Quilt Guild's 5th annual "Airing of the Quilts: Quilt Show and Sale." See not only modern quilts made by talented members of the guild but there will also be quilts and other boutique items for sale along with food trucks offering tasty treats. Quilts will be hung under and around the Big Pavilion in a beautiful beach-side park. Admission is free! 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Maxine Barritt Park (near Sharkey's and the pier) at 1800 S. February 6, 2021: ALL LGDSO EVENTS CANCELLED TILL FURTHER NOTICE.Check out some heavenly bodies during Sidewalk Astronomy courtesy of the local group of Deep Sky Observers. February 6 - 7, 2021: Canceled for 2021.You're invited to the 19th Annual Plantation Festival at Gamble Mansion and Plantation. Enjoy an arts and crafts show, a student art competition, free tours of the Gamble Mansion, food and beverage vendors and more. 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Free admission and $1 donation for parking. February 6 - 7, 2021: Canceled for 2021. The 27th Annual Winterfest at the Mansion Arts & Crafts Show features artists and crafters from 12 states. Free admission and parking. 10 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Phillippi Estate Park, 5500 S. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota, FL.

February 6 - 7, 2021: Canceled for 2021. Enjoy the 5th Annual Lido Beach Winter Fine Art Festival and marvel at unique creations by 120 of America’s top artisans in the mediums of painting, jewelry, sculpting, photography, woodworking, ceramics, glass, fiber art, mixed-media and more. Enjoy the rare opportunity to meet and interact with the talented creators of the artwork. Discover how each came to their art form and how they are inspired. February 6 - 9, 2020: Postponed to March  5 - 7, 2021. The St. Barbara Greek Festival has been changed to March 4 - 7, 2021. It's the 36th Annual "Greek Glendi - A Greek Festival."  Food and festivities abound from traditional Greek food & pastries to live Greek music and dancing. Thursday - Saturday: 11 a.m. - 9 p.m, Sunday: Noon - 8 p.m. Admission is $4, kids under 12 free. February 6 - 17, 2020: Postponed to April 22 - May 2, 2021. The Florida State Fair takes place and gates open daily at 9 a.m.The fairgrounds are at 4800 U.S. 301N. Tampa. You can also get there via I-75. (From I-75 N, take exit 261 to merge onto I-4 W toward Tampa. Take exit 7 to merge onto FL-600 W/E Hillsborough Ave/US-92 W toward US-301 W/Busch Gardens. Take the ramp to Riverview, Merge onto FL-41 S/FL-43 S/US-301 S. Continue to follow FL-43 S/US-301 S - fairgrounds will be on the right).  I've gotten there in about 75 minutes from Sarasota. February 7, 2021: TBD for 2021. Enjoy Sarasota's own Ski-A-Rees Water Ski Team and their 1st Sunday afternoon show of the new season at 2 p.m. at Ski-A-Ree Stadium. This free show takes place at 1602 Ken Thompson Parkway (near/behind Mote Marine Aquarium on the water.) 2 p.m. 388-1666.

February 7, 2020: Due to the challenges and uncertainty of trying to plan a safe event the series is canceled for 2021. It's the Moon Over Myakka Concert Series 2020 at the South Pavilion with Southern Cross. 7 p.m. Bring a chair and a picnic! Cost: $25 per person ($20 for Friends members). February 7 - 9, 2020: Canceled for2021. The Sarasota Shell Club presents its 57th Annual Shell Show! Whether a serious shell lover or seeking a new shell idea, the Sarasota Shell Show is one of the largest shell shows in the world and the perfect place for new creative ideas for you! Beautiful shell crafts and rare shell exhibits are displayed from around the world. February 7, 2020 - March 1, 2020: Circus Sarasota is Canceled for 2021 due to covid. Ladies & Gentleman, Boys & Girls....It's Circus Sarasota celebrating 23 years of Big Top Performances. Previous headliners have included comic daredevil, Sarasota's own international star, Bello Nock and Sarasota's high wire artist, Nik Wallenda. The all new winter production features 33 performances under the Red and White Big Top at various times, dates and ticket prices. Every year features a new cast in an intimate one-ring European style Big Top. This year’s show features incredible artistry on the flag pole and single trapeze, fast paced Alanian riders on horseback, hand-to-hand acrobatics, juggling and much more! February 7 - April 25, 2021: This concert season, Sarasota Orchestra expands its community engagement tour known as “SO on the Road” to bring live music into local parks and cultural destinations. While admission is free, attendees will be required to register to hold a seat at performances. Registration will open on Eventbrite one month prior to concerts. Sunday afternoons at 2:30 p.m. through April. Various outdoor locations around Sarasota and Bradenton parks.

February 8, 2020: No updated information available for 2021 on the Rays' website so we assume this is not happening. It's the Tampa Bay Rays Fan Fest with autographs and photo opportunities on the field, clubhouse tours and numerous other fan fest special attractions from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. Free admission and free parking in lots 6 & 7. All attendees 18 years and older must individually obtain an admission ticket to attend. Children 17 and under do not need a ticket. An email notification will be sent out when tickets are available to claim. Tropicana Field, 1 Tropicana Drive, St. Petersburg, FL. 

February 12, 2022: Water sports is the order of the day at the annual  Bradenton Area River Regatta on the Manatee River just east of the Green Bridge. Watch the boat races from either the Bradenton or Palmetto river fronts or on the bridge itself. It's a free event featuring Formula 2 powerboat racing. In prior years before last year's canceled event due to the coronavirus outbreak, the daylong fest also featured live music on two stages in both Bradenton and Palmetto, a food fest, a fireworks finale over the river choreographed to music and much more including an evening 5K run to finish under the fireworks! Further details for 2022 are pending or check the above link to the event's website. More than 120,000 spectators attended the last event in 2020. February 8, 2020: TBD for 2021. There's a street party for you: "Main Street Live!" on Historic Old Main Street in downtown Bradenton from 5 p.m. - 12  a.m. with live music. The event also features food vendors and arts and crafts. Music ends at 10 p.m. but Old Main Street will remain closed until midnight.

February 9, 2020: Moved to April 25, 2021. Come walk the Red Carpet as the Sarasota Film Society will be hosting its annual Academy Awards Party. Watch the Academy Awards live on the Big Screen.The evening will also feature food and drink options inspired by the award nominees, red carpet photos, Oscar trivia, and raffles and more fun! February 10 - 13, 2021: Canceled for 2021. Quilts, quilts & more quilts are the highlights of the Palm Grove Amish Quilt & Craft Show. See beautiful quilts of all sizes (mostly Amish made) and a variety of handmade crafts for sale and watch quilters at work. You can surely find one you'll like. $3 admission donation for charity to a Haiti Mission Project. Wed - Fri: 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Sat: 8 a.m. - noon. February 11, 2021: The Bridge Jazz Concert series is a collaborative project with the Jazz Club of Sarasota, Fogartyville/WSLR, and SAMBA, a group of area jazz enthusiasts anxious to bridge the void of excellent jazz performances created by the pandemic. This show features two groups; Ariella and The Barker Project.  Ariella is a Bay area favorite performing a mix of jazz, blues, funk, samba and soul. The duo features Ari  McManus on vocals and Nicolaas Kraster on guitar.The Barker Project is a young, energetic group of talented local musicians under the leadership of bassist, Johnnie Barker. The group includes two vocalists and a horn section. This is a virtual online event only. February 12 - 13, 2021: It's A Valentines Evening in the Park. Celebrate that special someone at Nathan Benderson Park! Socially distant dining atop the Finish Tower. Fine dining from Michael's on East Friday 2/12 & Mattison's on Saturday 2/13. Receive a three course meal with complimentary beverages, champagne toast, sunset and fireworks at 9:00 p.m., outdoor movies and more! $145 – $165. February 12 - 14, 2021: Take in the 14th Annual Sarasota Native American Art & Music Festival and experience the culture and artistry of the of the Native American people. Find authentic, handmade, one-of-a-kind fine arts and crafts, paintings, pottery, jewelry, sculpture, bead work and leather work along with story telling, dance and Native American food. The festival will continue to be a tribute to the extraordinary life of artist Rex A. Begaye, its founder. February 13, 2021: It's the start of the annual Florida Cracker Trail Ride. The week-long Florida historical re-enactment horse back ride will begin near the Manatee Village Historic Park and ride East on 64 to Morgan Johnson Road. The ride  takes place from February 13 - 20.  A few of the Cracker Trail riders will be departing from near the Manatee historical village Saturday Feb 13 apx 9:30am riding east on SR 64 to Morgan Johnson.  Official ride out is Sunday 9 am the 14th from Kibler Ranch (now Falkner) in east Manatee County. Located in a field near Kibler Ranch Rd and SR 64. and will continue across Florida and end in Fort Pierce with a parade to celebrate on Saturday, February 20, 2021 at 10 a.m. February Sarasota Events on Escape-to-Sarasota.

February 13, 2022: It's the Sarasota Half Marathon & 10K. THE 10K IS ON!, so be ready to have fun on Feb 13, 2022. Whether you want to run like a Cheetah or stroll with your friends…this is the event for YOU! The Sarasota Half Marathon will be back in 2023. Both of the courses start and finish in Van Wezel Performing Arts Center. The Sarasota Half will take you past some of the most beautiful scenery with spectacular views of the Gulf, Inner Coastal and city. T-shirts, Medals and After-party with live music.

It's the 38th Annual Cortez Commercial Fishing Festival and it is held in the historic fishing village of Cortez, Florida.  It celebrates the rich heritage of the area's commercial fishing industry and features two days of marine life exhibits, seafood, events for kids and live music. It runs from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. East end of town adjacent to the Florida Maritime Museum located at 4425 119th St. West, Cortez, Florida. Annual Sarasota Motorcycle Festival Called Thunder By The Bay

It'll be a fun weekend as the Thunder By The Bay Sarasota Music & Motorcycle Festival revs up my February Sarasota Events Calendar for another year! You'll see bikes, bikes and more bikes. (New safety measures will be in place for the 2021 Fest. Some of these new safety measures include daily temperature checks for everyone coming onto the property, multiple hand sanitizing stations throughout the grounds, sanitization of all restroom facilities and port-a-potties after use, pre-marked seating areas to view the stage, specified restrictions for all vendors, and face masks will be required when social distancing is not possible with disposable masks available for purchase on site.) February 20, 2021: It's the Nokomis and Laurel Community Cleanup! It's time to clean out the garage and gather discarded household items, appliances, junk, tree trimmings and other garbage as Sarasota County will hold a free community cleanup in the Nokomis and Laurel area from 8 a.m. to noon. Dumpsters will be available at the Nippino Trail Community Center, 234 Nippino Trail E., Nokomis. Hazardous waste will not be accepted at the listed location. Electronics, appliances, computers and tires no larger than 26 X 16 will be accepted at this site. In addition, commercial printers will not be accepted. Sarasota County staff will require vehicles to queue at this site in order to adhere to social distancing guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). In addition, county staff will not be able to handle any materials brought to the site due to CDC health and safety guidelines. Masks are also required.

My February Sarasota Events Calendar reports the event features all your Italian favorites from Sausage & Peppers to Ravioli, Chicken and much more. Check out North Port's San Pedro Community Festival where there will be live music, carnival rides, festival food, a market place and a beer and wine tent. On Saturday they are hosting their inaugural Festival 5K Race beginning at 7:30 a.m. and a car and bike show on Saturday from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Free admission. February 29, 2020: Moved to March 27, 2021. The Lakewood Ranch 14th Annual Youth Fishing Tournament happens at Lake Uihlein (behind Town Hall) from 9 a.m. - Noon. This "catch and release" fishing tournament is for different age groups: 5-8, 9-11, and 12-15. Prizes will be awarded for the various age categories. Don't forget to bring your rod, reel, chair, and sunscreen! Bait will be supplied but you are welcome to bring your own. Each participant receives a T-Shirt, Swag Bag, and the first 50 arrivals on tournament day will receive a Cool Today Cooler Bag! Lunch will be supplied to participants on the day of the tournament, however, guests must pre-pay $5 if they wish to have lunch (Burger or Hot Dog/Chips/Drink). Space is limited to first 125 anglers. February 29, 2020: Canceled for 2021 due to COVID. The Rubonia Mardi Gras Parade returns for another year with the traditional Mardi Gras style parade in this small Manatee County town. The parade is scheduled to step off at 12 noon just north of the I-275 overpass at Bayshore Rd and 79th Street East. Bring a lawn chair to view the parade from plus there are numerous front yard vendors selling seafood and BBQ on the streets that run off of Bayshore Road. After parade festivities until 6 p.m. include food vendors, entertainment and more at the Rubonia Community Center where Musical/Entertainment guests include: T&L Characters, AJ & the Automatics, and The Beat Down Band. 12 p.m. - 6 p.m. Rubonia Community Center is at 1309 72nd Street, East, Rubonia, FL. The Gator Club hosts its 4th annual OsFest Reggae Music Block Party to honor the late great musician Oswald Caines of Democracy Reggae Band. There will be plenty of food, drinks, more live bands, and DJs, Kid activities, raffles and much more. You can also listen to a live Band and DJs inside The Gator Club. This is a Reggae Music Takeover. The past few years there has been over 5,000 attendees throughout the day. Its a great time for the entire family! 4 p.m. - 1 a.m. Admission: $5 for everyone over 5 years old. Tickets available online.
