March 1 - 12, 2023: Sarasota's Bayfront Park has been the backdrop for Embracing Our Differences' colorful, larger-than-life canvases integrating powerful imagery and thought-provoking messages celebrating diversity. The scale and impact of this outdoor exhibition has continued to grow, attracting over two million visitors since its inception. March 2, 2023: Sarasota County Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources' Beach University series returns to the Siesta Beach main pavilion. In partnership with the Siesta Beach Ambassador volunteer program, this free educational series invites community members and visitors to learn about coastal environments in one-hour sessions. Beach University sessions are from 9:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m., every Thursday in March at the main pavilion on Siesta Beach, 948 Beach Road on Siesta Key. Free. March 2, 2023: The Music Program at State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) will present “Essential Elements.” The SCF Choirs explore the musical nature of the four elements: earth, fire, water, and air. Song selections will feature music from the Renaissance to 20th Century performed in various choral styles by the SCF Concert and Chamber Choirs. The concert is under the direction of Melodie Dickerson, director of Choral and Vocal Studies with piano accompaniment by Lurray Myers, staff accompanist. 7:30 p.m. $15 for general admission and $5 for SCF students and staff unless otherwise noted. March 3, 2023: The Friday Jazz at Two Concert Series returns with Skip Conkling and Dixie Mix. Skip Conkling and Dixie Mix plays some of your favorite Dixieland & swing tunes from down New Orleans way. They’ll have you toe tapping and finger snapping. March 3, 2023: It's the first Friday of the month so that means Music on Main at Lakewood Ranch from 6 p.m. - 9 p.m. with GJack’d Up will fill the air with radio friendly music hits from the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s, and the event will benefit Friends of the Lakewood Ranch Library, Inc. Beer, wine and food sales. Check out the fountain area for a balloon twister, face painting, and fun. Bring your chairs, but leave coolers at home. Celebrating your friends, and all newcomers in the heart of downtown on State Street. with live music by the Alan Grant Band. March 3, 2023: It's the Moon Over Myakka Fundraising Concert at the South Pavilion with The Jazz Phools playing irresistible dance ryhthms with vintage appeal. March 3 - 4, 2023: The Friendship Knot Quilters’ Guild of Sarasota will hold their Quilts in Paradise 2023 Show. The show will include hundreds of beautiful quilts, vendors, door prizes, basket raffles, mini quilt and block auctions, quilt appraisal services and our beautiful raffle quilt. March 3 – 5, 2023: It's the Downtown Sarasota Blues Festival with performances by creative and talented musicians from both the local and regional circuit. March 3 - 5, 2023: The 17th annual Firestone Grand Prix roars into St. Petersburg featuring Indy Car style racing through the streets. More than 150,000 fans are expected to view the race, a 1.8 mile 14-turn course through downtown St. Pete. March 4, 2023: It's the Annual Shark's Tooth 10K run. The iconic Shark's Tooth 10K will be professionally chip-timed with custom finisher medals and locally printed custom race shirts. One of the favorite races for locals and visitors alike. You can also do a virtual Sharks Tooth 10k. Starts at 7:15 a.m. Registration fee is $49. March 5, 2023: It's the Gamble Plantation Historic State Park 61st Annual UDC Spring Open House. During the Mansion's 'free tours' see the many lifestyle demonstrations of the era of the 1840’s - 1870’s. The ladies of the United Daughters of the Confederacy will be wearing costumes reminiscent of the era of the 1840’s through 1870’s to add that special touch of authenticity to the day. The Gamble Mansion will be open to the public with free tours of the building. There will be music, crafts and fun for everyone. March 6, 2023: It's the Ladies for Liberty - Salute to Veterans Show at The Humane Society of Sarasota County. Let the Ladies for Liberty take you back in time with their renditions of 1940's, WWII, 1950's Korean War, and 1960's Vietnam War-era music. As animal lovers who are also passionate in their support of veterans causes, The Ladies for Liberty are excited to come to the Humane Society of Sarasota (HSSC), home of the Military Matches Program that provides adoptions free of charge to veterans and members of the military! March 11 - 12, 2023: It's the return of Art in the Park for its 23rd year. Each year, the University Park Country Club (UPCC) hosts a fine art show featuring over 150 works of art created by local artists. The pieces range from large and small scale original paintings, mixed media, photographs, sculptures, small prints and beautiful note cards. The show is indoors and takes place rain or shine, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. After visiting the show, a perfect place to have lunch is at the club restaurant in a beautiful setting overlooking the lake and golf course. March 24 - April 2, 2023: The 25th Annual Sarasota Film Festival, is one of the year's biggest events. It's 10 days of movies, celebrities and parties when Hollywood comes to Sarasota! Founded in 1998, the Sarasota Film Festival (SFF) has grown to be a ten-day festival that plays independent and international narratives, docs and shorts that are programmed into a schedule of over 200 films including features, themed shorts packages and additional programming sidebars that change each year to reflect the strengths of submitted films. Festival events include socially-driven parties and private receptions to honor guest filmmakers, community-wide street festivals and the black-tie Filmmakers Tribute Dinner. SFF patrons have enjoyed intimate performances from Aerosmith and The B52's as well as a host of special appearances from local and international musicians. Over the last two decades, the festival has screened groundbreaking films, documentaries and shorts that deliver key messages to audiences, as well as engaging them in conversations with actors, filmmakers and industry professionals. The Sarasota Film Festival is a favored destination for filmmakers, national press, industry executives and stars. In 2022 Jacqueline Bisset was awarded the Sarasota Film Festival Lifetime Achievement Award at the April 9th Closing Night screening of her latest project LOREN & ROSE. Hollywood Stars that appeared here in 2019 were Greg Kinnear, Blythe Danner, Anne Heche,and Tyne Daily. Hollywood Stars who made appearances in 2018 included actress Virginia Madsen and actor Steve Guttenberg, who received a career achievement award from the festival. The 2017 Film Festival included Diane Lane, Rory Kennedy, and Aisha Tyler. Actors Stanley Tucci, and Rosanna Arquette, who took part in the "In Conversation With" series, also attended the 2017 festival. On the 2016 appearance agenda were actresses and actors: Sophia Loren, Olympia Dukakis, George Hamilton, Mathew Modine, and Treat Williams. Making appearances in 2015 were actresses Cloris Leachman, Jane Seymour and Blythe Danner. Making an appearance at the 2013 Film Festival was actress Mariel Hemingway. The 2012 Feature actor and special guest was Frank Langella. 2011's special guest and honoree was the legendary Christopher Plummer, who received the "Cinema Master" Award. March 30, 2023: The Music Program at State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) will present a “Chamber Music Concert.” The SCF Chamber Music Ensembles perform an evening of music composed for intimate settings. March 31, 2023: The Friday Jazz at Two Concert Series returns with The Sarasota Jazz Project. Big Band Jazz at it’s finest with one of the best jazz bands in the area, the Sarasota Jazz Project directed by co-founder, George McLain.
