March 1, 2020: Enjoy the 31st Annual Lido Tides Arts & Crafts Show in the open air along the beach in front of the Lido Beach Pavilion. Featuring the creations of talented artists and crafts people from all over. Lots of creativity on display and for purchase from spectacular paintings, one-of-a-kind jewels, and photography to ceramics, and much more. No matter what you're looking for, you'll be sure to find it among the various array of artists and crafters participating in this arts and craft festival. March 1, 2020: Check out the Venice Home Show for everything under the sun having to do with your home. Landscapers, builders, contractors, windows, kitchens, baths, solar, garden displays, outdoor furniture, closets, pools and spas, flooring, carpeting, paving, decks, security systems and more will be featured. March 1, 2020: It's the 7th Annual Fairy and Gnome House Festival at Historic Spanish Point! You and your family are invited to connect directly with the environment and express your creativity and explore the magic of nature! This enchanting family experience is held in the gardens of Historic Spanish Point. Visitors will discover whimsical fairy and gnome houses and experience family-friendly activities in  four Elemental Lands: earth, Air, Fire and Water. March 1, 2020: It's the last day of the DeSoto Food & Music Festival, a 3 day event with food, music, arts & crafts plus family fun. There will be local  artisans, vendors, a Kid's Zone and more. Among the bands performing will be The Georgia Satellites, Rebel Heart, and John Michael Montgomery. Admission: $10. March 1, 2020: Enjoy Sarasota's own Ski-A-Rees Water Ski Team and their Sunday afternoon show at 2 p.m. at Ski-A-Ree Stadium. This free show takes place at 1602 Ken Thompson Parkway (near/behind Mote Marine Aquarium on the water.) 2 p.m. 388-1666.

March 1, 2020: Ladies & Gentleman, Boys & Girls....It's Circus Sarasota celebrating 23 years of Big Top Performances. Previous headliners have included comic daredevil, Sarasota's own international star, Bello Nock and Sarasota's high wire artist, Nik Wallenda. The all new winter production features 33 performances under the Red and White Big Top at various times, dates and ticket prices. Every year features a new cast in an intimate one-ring European style Big Top. This year’s show features incredible artistry on the flag pole and single trapeze, fast paced Alanian riders on horseback, hand-to-hand acrobatics, juggling and much more! March 1, 2020: Check out North Port's San Pedro Community Festival where there will be live music, carnival rides, festival food, a market place and a beer and wine tent. Free admission. Sun: 12 p.m. - 7 p.m. San Pedro Catholic Church, 14380 Tamiami Trail, North Port, FL.

March 2, 2020: Come out for Ringling by the Bay featuring live music and dancing with Paisley Craze on the Bolger Campiello. Food and drinks available for purchase. 6 p.m. - 9 p.m. Admission: $5 - $15. Tickets may be purchased in the Visitors Pavilion on the day of the event. Limited seating is available. March 2, 2020: Check out the Jazz Club of Sarasota Monday Night Jazz at the Florida Studio Theatre Cabaret Series with Marty Morell's Latin Jazz Ensemble. Marty Morell (drums, percussion, vibes, piano, producer) was a member of the Bill Evans Trio for seven years. He was the drummer with the legendary Duke Ellington Orchestra from 2006-12. The members of the M&M Latin Jazz Ensemble includes Morell, Alejandro Arenas, Mark Feinman, Michiko Ohta Morell, John O'Leary and Jeff Rupert.  Members $35; non members $39. Full bar and dinner available, doors open 6:30 for dinner. Concerts begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Florida Studio Theatre's John C. Court Cabaret, First St and Cocoanut Ave, Sarasota. March 2 - 3, 2019: It's the Dub Fest 2019 Craft Beer & Music Festival celebrating J. Dub's Brewing Company's 5th anniversary. Saturday's 1 p.m. - 10 p.m. music line up: Ship of Fools, Wild Root, SOWFLO, Reverend Barry & The Funk, Bob Marley Tribute, Less Than Jake, Sunday's 1 p.m. - 8 p.m. music line up: Jah Movement, The Black Honkeys, Mini Kiss, Reel Big Fish. There's also a Home brew competition plus VIP beer releases, food trucks, raffles, games, vendor booths and more. No one under 21. No coolers or outside food & drink. Tickets: $25 - $100. March 3, 2019: You're invited to a free open house! It's the Gamble Plantation Historic State Park Annual UDC 59th Annual Spring Open House. During the Mansion's 'free tours' see the many lifestyle demonstrations of  the era of the 1840’s - 1870’s.  Additionally, members of the 4th Florida Volunteer Infantry will have a Confederate encampment. March 3, 2019: The Sarasota Farmers Market is proud to announce it’s second annual “Taste of the Market” Fundraiser. Guests will be treated to food provided by Market vendors, including a 50 foot salad bar with all items sourced by our market growers. Food service will run from 5 p.m. - 7 p.m. A cash bar will be available, featuring a craft beer garden.The event will feature live disco music by Bootyshaker, raffles, and a “Disco Dance-Off” Competition from 7 p.m. - 8 p.m. Ticket prices are $35 prior to the event, $45 the night of event. Kids are $10, ages 5 and under are free.Tickets can be purchased by clicking here or at the farmers market information booth. March 3 - 4, 2020: It's a free concert with live music on Tuesday with the Happy Time Band and Wednesday with the Gentlemen of Jazz. Enjoy the tunes from 3 p.m. - 5 p.m. These free concerts take place in Centennial Park's Gazebo in downtown Venice, FL.

March 5, 2020: Enjoy the free Brown Bag Concert Series at Phillippi Estate Park every Thursday from noon - 1 p.m. through March 26. Bring your lunch and a chair or blanket and enjoy a wide variety of musical performances. Free admission and Free parking. March 5, 2019: Historic Downtown Venice is gearing up for the Second Annual Fat Tuesday Mardi Gras Crawl… Venice style! This year there will be two 2nd line Marching Bands; just like those in New Orleans. Beads galore, hurricanes and even special New Orleans inspired food dishes. Dress up and follow the bands down the sidewalks in Downtown into the shops, restaurants and pubs. 5 p.m. - 8 p.m. Downtown Venice, FL.

March 5, 2020: Get groovin' in the courtyard at Ringling Underground where you can enjoy live music in the Museum of Art Courtyard. An eclectic mix of local and regional live music is featured in the series. Plus check out up and coming artists with select galleries open until 11 p.m. 8 p.m. - 11 p.m.  Admission: $15. March 6, 2020: Get your toes tapping at "Jazz at Two" with Skip Conkling’s “Dixie Mix”. Skip’s Dixie Mix plays some of your favorite Dixieland tunes with that New Orleans swing, jazz standards and music from  the American songbook.  You will hear some of your favorite toe-tapping tunes with that great New Orleans sound. March 6, 2020: It's the first Friday of the month so that means Music on Main at Lakewood Ranch from 6 p.m. - 9 p.m with The Whiskey Blind band! Beer, wine and food sales. Check out the fountain area for a balloon twister, face painting, and fun. Bring your chairs, but leave coolers at home. Dogs are welcome, but must be kept on a short leash. March 6, 2020: Check out Cat Depot's "Whiskers & Waves" Gala which will be held at Mote Marine Laboratory & Aquarium where guests will enjoy a magical evening "under the sea" while supporting hundreds of needy cats in the Sarasota area. The evening will include a cocktail reception, plated dinner, silent auction, and special entertainment all to benefit the cats and kittens in Cat Depot's care. 6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m 1600 Ken Thompson Pkwy, Sarasota, FL. March 6, 2020: It's the Moon Over Myakka Concert Series 2020 at the South Pavilion with Doug Deming & The Jewel Tones. 7 p.m. Bring a chair and a picnic! March 7, 2020: It's the 11th Annual Shark's Tooth 10K run. It starts at the Venice Airport Festival Grounds. Participants receive: Custom medal for all finishers, Free entry to the 2020 Shark's Tooth Festival in April, Premium post race party, Door prizes, Custom Awards and more. March 7 - 8, 2020: You're invited to enjoy the Berry Fest from the same people that bring you the annual Pumpkin Fest. This family friendly event will feature craft booths, face painting, a rock wall, bounce house, mini train rides, food, an Easter egg hunt (2 p.m. every Saturday), Pie-eating contest (every Sunday at 2 p.m.) and spring baby animals. Since it's the "Berry Fest" they will feature yummy strawberry shortcake, strawberry milkshakes, hand-dipped blueberry cheesecake ice cream plus kettle corn and plenty of good eats. March 7 - 8, 2020: The 32nd annual Holmes Beach Spring Fest Fine Arts & Crafts Fest on Anna Maria Island. Nearly 80 juried Fine arts and fine craft sexhibitors, this event will also include children's young at art exhibit and art activities. March 7 - 8, 2020: Check out the 20th Annual Art in the Park Exhibition & Sale which features the work of over 30 artists, many showing nationally and award winning, under the canopy at the University Park Country Club. The public is welcome to this juried show and sale of fine art, from paintings and photography to sculpture. March 8, 2020: The 40th Annual Sarasota Jazz Festival kicks off with the free Jazz in the Park concerts beginning at noon. The event features 3 bands; the Riverview HS Jazz Ensemble, the Don Levine Ensemble and the Debbie Keeton Jazz Quartet. Food trucks available for food and beverages. No coolers allowed. March 8 - 9, 2019: The Friendship Knot Quilters’ Guild of Sarasota will hold their 17th Biennial Quilt Show. (Next show is March 12 - 13, 2021) The show will include hundreds of beautiful quilts, more than 20 vendors, door prizes, basket raffles, mini quilt and block auctions, quilt appraisal services and our beautiful raffle quilt. The queen sized (88 x 88) quilt was made by a group of 20 Friendship Knot Quilters’ Guild members.  The quilt features Kaffe Fassett fabric and includes hand applique and machine paper piecing.  The raffle drawing will be held at 3:00 pm on Saturday, March 9, 2019 during the quilt show.  Raffle quilt tickets can be purchased for $1.00 each or 6 for $5.00 during the show. Moving to March in 2020. January 12, 2019: The Annual Ringling Bridge Run, usually held each year in January was moved to March for 2020 in the hopes of being able to continue the run. Unfortunately due to complications, we assume, from the change over at the Sarasota YMCA in 2019, they are not able to hold the Bridge Run in 2020. Stay tuned for next year.

March 8 - 14, 2020: The Jazz Club of Sarasota marks its 40th anniversary with the 40th Sarasota Jazz Festival, its biggest ever. Ken Peplowski—"arguably the greatest living jazz clarinetist” (BBC2)—returns for his third year as music director for the mainstage concerts. The Manhattan Transfer will headline the milestone event. Other jazz stars include Dick Hyman, Clairdee, Houston Person, Charles McPherson, Russell Malone, Terell Stafford, and festival band La Lucha—Alejandro Arenas, Mark Feinman, and John O’Leary. The festival brings a mix of free and ticketed events. The festival’s mainstage concerts will be presented in the Sarasota Municipal Auditorium, 801 North Tamiami Trail and several other concerts will be staged at several venues, each within a short walking distance of the Auditorium. In addition, several long-established festival events will be held in their traditional venues at Phillippi Estate Park, Burns Court Cinema, and night clubs in downtown Sarasota.

March 9, 2019: It's the Pittsburgh Pirates 13th annual Pirate Fest with family-friendly fun, free player autographs, games, prizes, music and more all inside LECOM Park. March 9, 2019: The 8th Annual Irish Celtic Festival & Lucky Dog Parade that  takes place at Greenbrook Adventure Park off SR70 in Lakewood Ranch. With entertainment stages, the Lucky Dog Parade, traditional food, a pot 'o gold scavenger hunt, Dancers, Bands, Guys can enter the very popular ‘BEST LEGS IN A KILT’ Contest, and more. Judging and awards will be given for dogs that are Most Irish, Cutest, and Dog/Owner look alike. (Entry for contest is $5.) Also as part of this year's fest they will continue the Relay Race. Prizes will be awarded for winning: 1st Place, Last Place and Most Original Costume! 11 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Free admission and $5 parking. March 9, 2019: It's the 13th annual Pork Butt Blues Festival in Palmetto featuring: Bands to be announced. There will be some great food. Bring your favorite chair! Food, beverages, raffles, auctions, craft vendors, too. Sorry No coolers. The funds at this event benefits Manatee Veteran's Village. Donation $15 at the gate. March 11, 2020: Put on your Sunday finest and travel back in time to an old-fashioned tea party with Bertha Palmer. Mrs. Bertha Palmer (played by Kathryn Chesley) will be in attendance sharing stories about her life here in Sarasota and back in Chicago. March 10 - 11, 2020: It's a free concert with live music on Tuesday with the Happy Time Band and Wednesday with the Gentlemen of Jazz. Enjoy the tunes from 3 p.m. - 5 p.m. These free concerts take place in Centennial Park's Gazebo in downtown Venice, FL.

March 11 - 22, 2020: The Jewish Federation of Sarasota-Manatee Presents The 2020 Naiditch Family Foundation 11th annual Jewish Film Festival. The film festival features celebrated feature films that highlight Jewish and Israeli history and Jewish values. The annual festival celebrates Israeli life, history and culture. Numerous venues and times.

March 12 - 15, 2020: The 92nd Annual Arcadia All-Florida Championship Rodeo happens at the Rodeo Arena in Arcadia, about an hour's drive east of Sarasota.  Events include bareback riding, barrel racing and bull riding. March 13, 2020: A new season of Music in the Park kicks off at the Riverwalk in Bradenton. Bring a picnic basket, blankets or chairs, and your furry companions on leashes to the Bradenton Riverwalk Mosaic Amphitheater and enjoy the show for free! Drinks and snacks available for purchase. This concert series will occur every Friday evening through April 24, 2020. 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. Free admission. Downtown Bradenton Riverwalk Mosaic Amphitheater.

March 13, 2020: It's Free Music Friday Night live at Centennial Park. The music of Matthew Mayes and Forrest Shafer takes place at the Gazebo in the park. Free. 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. Bring your folding chairs or blankets. Downtown Venice, FL.

March 13, 2020: Check out Spooky Stories Ghost Tours at Historic Spanish Point. Enjoy Spooky Stories of Florida's past as you walk our historic houses, ancient mounds, and our pioneer cemetery. There will be two tours each evening. The tours will meet at the white Gazebo on the Historic Spanish Point site and each tour will last approximately 90 minutes and will be roughly a ¾ of a mile walk outdoors with some pathways up and down stairs. In the event that the tour is canceled due to severe weather conditions, then it will be rescheduled for the following Friday. 8 p.m. & 9 p.m. (Repeats Apr 10, May 8) Historic Spanish Point Members: $20. March 13 - 15, 2020: The 16th annual Firestone Grand Prix roars into St. Petersburg featuring Indy Car style racing through the streets.  More than 150,000 fans are expected to view the race, a 1.8 mile 14-turn course through downtown St. Pete. With three days of racing and entertainment and festival events tickets start at $20 with numerous high priced packages available also. St. Petersburg, FL.

March 13 - 22, 2020: Cotton Candy? Elephant Ears? The 84th Annual Sarasota County Fair takes place at the Sarasota County Fairgrounds. There are exhibits, Midway rides and, yes, good ole fair food! The Fairgrounds are located at 3000 Ringling Boulevard, Sarasota. Directions: Take U.S. Rt. 41 to U.S. Rt. 301 (Washington Boulevard S.) and turn east on Ringling Boulevard and follow Ringling Boulevard to just east of Tuttle Avenue.

Marty Zach Bartholomew is an award-winning jazz pianist, composer, and music educator.  He has been a featured performer at national and international jazz festivals, including the Jacksonville Jazz Festival, Monterey Jazz Festival, Jalisco Jazz Festival, and Festival Miami. Hollywood Stars who made appearances in 2018 included actress Virginia Madsen and actor Steve Guttenberg, who received a career achievement award from the festival. The 2017 Film Festival included Diane Lane, Rory Kennedy, and Aisha Tyler. Actors Stanley Tucci, and Rosanna Arquette, who took part in the "In Conversation With" series, also attended the 2017 festival. On the 2016 appearance agenda were actresses and actors: Sophia Loren, Olympia Dukakis, George Hamilton, Mathew Modine, and Treat Williams. Making appearances in 2015 were actresses Cloris Leachman, Jane Seymour and Blythe Danner. Making an appearance at the 2013 Film Festival was actress Mariel Hemingway. The 2012 Feature actor and special guest was Frank Langella. 2011's special guest and honoree was the legendary Christopher Plummer, who received the "Cinema Master" Award. March 28, 2020: It's the DeSoto Heritage Festival Bottle Boat Regatta taking place from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. on the south west boat ramps of Palma Sola Causeway. March 28 - 29, 2020: Sarasota Bay plays host to the Sarasota Youth Sailing Club's 33rd annual SailFest Regatta. It's part of a nationwide event for sailors ages 8 - 21. This Junior Olympic event draws over 200 sailors and their families to the Sarasota Sailing Squadron and the surrounding areas for the weekend. The headquarters for the club and event is at 1717 Ken Thompson Parkway, Sarasota, FL. (on City Island).

March 28 - 29, 2020: Enjoy the sights and flights of Wings over Venice, the 21st annual radio controlled aircraft exhibition held by The R/C Fliers of Venice. The weekend will feature flying demos as well as food and drink vendors, a candy drop for kids and benefit raffles. Rustic RV parking. March 29, 2020:  It's the 16th annual Capt John Breuggeman Memorial Grouper Tournament. It's a one-day offshore tournament for grouper with prizes for 1st, 2nd & 3rd place plus a trophy for the biggest catch. Plus there's usually an after tournament barbeque and raffle for prizes. The spirit of this tournament is to provide a chance to fish, to have fun, to eat together, to raise scholarship monies and especially to honor the memory of John Breuggeman. March 29, 2020: Take a look at some cool old and vintage rides from many eras at the Venice AACA's 32nd Annual Antique Collector Car Show. March 30, 2019: It's the Little Circus Angel Scavenger Hunt designed for “children of all ages” who will explore Sarasota’s rich circus history. Teams will travel in their vehicles to locations throughout Sarasota to collect clues to solve circus-related riddles. The winning team will be awarded a dinner aboard an authentic circus train dining car. The scavenger hunt is a benefit for the Showpeople’s Winter Quarters, a retirement village for showpeople. Tickets for the Circus Angel Scavenger Hunt, priced as a $25 donation, may be purchased at St. Martha's Church office or by reservation by calling (941) 302-0054. March 30, 2019: It's the 5th Annual Beer, Bands, and BBQ with live music, BBQ inspired food, and vendors. Live acts will include: Kaleidogroove, Trey Wanvig Band, Experimental Farm Road, The Barker Project, The House Brand Band, Blue Kangaroos, Los Rojos, Red Vibes, Unspoken and Trio. 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. Food trucks and beer will be available throughout the day. March 30, 2020: Check out the Jazz Club of Sarasota Monday Night Jazz at the Florida Studio Theatre Cabaret Series with Vocalist Scotty Wright and Friends. With a warm, rich-toned voice and relaxed delivery, Scotty possesses a unique sound that is deeply rooted in the jazz tradition. His style features harmonic sophistication, a playful rhythmic approach and insightful phrasing of the lyric. Scotty’s repertoire includes interpretations of classic songs by Gershwin, Porter, Kern and Rodgers & Hart; jazz standards by Miles Davis, Duke Ellington, Horace Silver, Thelonious Monk, Wayne Shorter and Billy Strayhorn, as well as his own well-crafted songs.  Members $35; non members $39.
