April 1, 2022: The Friday Jazz at Two Concert Series returns with The Debbie Keeton Quartet. Jazz vocalist Debbie Keeton is a favorite in the Sarasota area and a staple at Mattison’s City Grill for many years. Keeton is a great interpreter of American Songbook favorites and jazz standards. Enjoy an afternoon of swingin’ jazz with some of the area’s top musicians. Admission at the door, $10 - $20. April 1, 2022: It's a new season of Music in the Park. On Friday evenings, there are few better ways to relax and welcome in the weekend than listening to great local music in an outdoor setting. Thanks to this Realize Bradenton series, for seven Fridays you can enjoy the best in local music at the Rossi Park Pavilion on the Riverwalk. April 1, 2022: It's the first Friday of the month so that means Music on Main at Lakewood Ranch is from 6 p.m. -  9 p.m. Kettle of Fish will fill the air with original music that is an amalgam of rock, blues, reggae and New Orleans soul; the deejay will keep you dancing with today’s Top 100 hits; and the event will benefit the Lakewood Ranch Business Alliance. Beer, wine and food sales. Bring your chairs, but leave coolers at home. Dogs are welcome, but must be kept on a short leash. Overflow parking is available at the Lakewood Ranch Medical Center. Lakewood Ranch is off University Parkway east of I-75.

April 1, 2022: It's downtown Sarasota's "Fresh Fridays" with Art on the Block to include live entertainment with The Alan Grant Band, performers from The Players Centre will put on a Janis Joplin tribute, plus roaming circus performers and more. 7 p.m. - 10 p.m. Lemon Avenue between Main and First Street, downtown Sarasota, FL.

April 1 - 3, 2022: The Sarasota Chalk Festival returns to the Venice Airport Festival Grounds. Scores of chalk artists from all over will create artwork using the pavement of the Venice Airport Festival Grounds as their canvas. This year's theme is ""Museum in Motion." The grounds will also serve as the main parking area and site of the 3 day event. Last year over 500 national and international artists participated in the Sarasota Chalk Festival. The fest features street painting; 3D Pavement Art, Traditional Pavement Art as well as other events, live music, craft, food and drink vendors and attractions connected to the fest! April  1 - 10, 2022: Sarasota's Bayfront Park is the backdrop for Embracing Our Differences colorful, larger-than-life canvases integrating powerful imagery and thought-provoking messages celebrating diversity. The scale and impact of this outdoor exhibition has continued to grow, attracting over two million visitors since its inception. April 1 - 10, 2022: The Annual Sarasota Film Festival, is one of the year's biggest events. It's 10 days of movies, celebrities and parties when Hollywood comes to Sarasota! Founded in 1998, the Sarasota Film Festival (SFF) has grown to be a ten-day festival that plays independent and international narratives, docs and shorts that are programmed into a schedule of over 200 films including features, themed shorts packages and additional programming sidebars that change each year to reflect the strengths of submitted films. Festival events include socially-driven parties and private receptions to honor guest filmmakers, community-wide street festivals and the black-tie Filmmakers Tribute Dinner. SFF patrons have enjoyed intimate performances from Aerosmith and The B52's as well as a host of special appearances from local and international musicians. Over the last two decades, the festival has screened groundbreaking films, documentaries and shorts that deliver key messages to audiences, as well as engaging them in conversations with actors, filmmakers and industry professionals.The Sarasota Film Festival is a favored destination for filmmakers, national press, industry executives and stars. In 2022 Jacqueline Bisset was awarded the Sarasota Film Festival Lifetime Achievement Award at the April 9th Closing Night screening of her latest project LOREN & ROSE. Hollywood Stars that appeared here in 2019 were Greg Kinnear, Blythe Danner, Anne Heche,and Tyne Daily. Hollywood Stars who made appearances in 2018 included actress Virginia Madsen and actor Steve Guttenberg, who received a career achievement award from the festival. The 2017 Film Festival included Diane Lane, Rory Kennedy, and Aisha Tyler. Actors Stanley Tucci, and Rosanna Arquette, who took part in the "In Conversation With" series, also attended the 2017 festival. On the 2016 appearance agenda were actresses and actors: Sophia Loren, Olympia Dukakis, George Hamilton, Mathew Modine, and Treat Williams. Making appearances in 2015 were actresses Cloris Leachman, Jane Seymour and Blythe Danner. Making an appearance at the 2013 Film Festival was actress Mariel Hemingway. The 2012 Feature actor and special guest was Frank Langella. 2011's special guest and honoree was the legendary Christopher Plummer, who received the "Cinema Master" Award. April 2, 2022: It's the 36th Annual Run/walk for the Turtles sponsored by Mote Marine on Siesta Key Public Beach. Run, walk or crawl to support Mote's sea turtle conservation and research!  6:30 a.m. - Packet pick up & race day registration opens, 7:00 a.m. - Warm Up! 7:30 a.m. - 1 Mile Fun Run, 8:00 a.m. - 5K Run sanctioned by Manasota Track Club, Award ceremony to follow 5K. Race registration (for both the 1 Mile Fun Run & 5K) includes a complimentary race t-shirt, access to the food station, kids activities area & more! April 2, 2022: The Kiwanis Club of Venice invite kids to the Tom Faling Memorial Kiwanis Kids Fish-a-thon at Oscar Scherer Park for kids ages 4 - 13. Get free entry to the park along with free bait provided by the Kiwanis and free tackle. Plus there will be a free hot dog cookout for the whole family. 8 a.m. - noon. April 2, 2022: It's the Wild About Nature Festival, a day of fun and outdoor adventure. Reconnect with the great outdoors and help foster a love of nature in the next generation as you spend a day in the sun on the beautiful shores of Little Sarasota Bay at Bay Preserve. Families of all ages are encouraged to take part in this fun-filled day of nature-based education and exploration. The wide variety of activities include dip-netting, face painting, hula-hoop lessons, crafts, games, and more including a fossil dig, tree climbing, arts and crafts. There will be live music and food trucks, too. This is a FREE family festival open to all.  Registration is not required. 11 a.m. - 4 p.m.  Bay Preserve at Osprey, 400 Palmetto Ave., Osprey, FL

April 2, 2022: It's an Aqua Egg Hunt at Arlington Park & Aquatic Complex! Hunt for eggs at the Arlington Park & Aquatic Complex! Youth will enjoy hunting for eggs in the pool while they look for the “golden” egg to win prizes! 1 p.m.: 4 yrs. & younger. All children 4 and under must have a guardian join them in the pool. 1:20 p.m.: 5 – 8 yrs. old. 1:40 p.m.: 9 – 12 yrs. old. Fee: $2 per child. April 2, 2022: TBA for 2022. Check out some heavenly bodies during Sidewalk Astronomy courtesy of the local group of Deep Sky Observers. Telescopes will be up and available for public viewing from sunset. - 10 p.m. - 10:30 p.m. (weather permitting). Take in the inaugural Lido Beach Spring Craft Show where you will find an outdoor gallery of creations in painting, sculpture, jewelry, photography, glass, ceramics, fiber and wearable art, mixed-media, woodworking and more. April 2 -  4, 2022: Canceled for 2022. Want to go hunting for Shark tooth fossils? Want a simple and inexpensive way to do it? Then attend the 28th Annual Venice Sharks Tooth Festival on the Airport Festival Grounds in Venice, Florida on Airport Avenue. Admission is only $5, kids under 12 are free and there's even free parking at this, one of the spring's most popular fests held at the Venice Airport Festival grounds. There are fossils, food, arts and crafts, entertainment and children's activities. No pets allowed. April 3, 2022: It's the 16th annual Capt John Breuggeman Memorial Grouper Tournament. It's a one-day offshore tournament for grouper with prizes for 1st, 2nd & 3rd place plus a trophy for the biggest catch. Plus there's usually an after tournament barbecue and raffle for prizes. The spirit of this tournament is to provide a chance to fish, to have fun, to eat together, to raise scholarship monies and especially to honor the memory of John Breuggeman. April 4, 2022: Come out for Ringling by the Bay featuring live music and dancing with Actual Bank Robbers on the Bolger Campiello. Food and drinks available for purchase. 6 p.m. - 9 p.m. Tickets will be available approx. one month prior to each event, and will include a 24 hour pre-sale period for members. Members please note: $10 tickets are limited to one for Individual Memberships and two for all other Membership levels. Additionally, members may purchase up to four additional tickets at full price ($20) during the pre-sale period. Tickets are limited and will be available on a first come-first serve basis. April 6, 2022: Check out NBP Rec Day! This is a great opportunity for natural sound and family-friendly imagery on the water. For a small fee, children and their parents and siblings can get out on the water with their choice of our equipment, and switch out at their whim — kayaks, canoes, stand-up paddle boards, a pedal pontoon boat, even a 15-foot sailboat with captain (masks required). $10 per person. $5 per adult with accompanying child. Free for children ages 6 and younger. Family maximum: $35 (for households of five or more) All must complete the waiver form. April 6, 2022: It's a free concert with live music with the Gentlemen of Jazz, which recreates the New Orleans Preservation Hall style of jazz. Enjoy the tunes from 3 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. This free concert take place every Wednesday from January 5, 2022 through April 6, 2022 in Centennial Park's Gazebo in downtown Venice, FL.

April 7 - 11, 2022: The Sarasota Chalk Festival's encore called "Avenue of  Art" is taking place in downtown Sarasota in the Burn's Square District. Come and watch the artists or paint, "chalk,"  your own sidewalk. The district runs from Ringling Boulevard to Mound Avenue along South Pineapple and South Orange Avenues. Burns Square is bound by Historic Laurel Park that is on the National Register of Historic Neighborhoods to the east, Palm Avenue residential neighborhood to the west, and Hudson Bayou to the south.

April 8, 2022: The Humane Society of Sarasota County returns with their sizzling-hot signature luncheon, Paws on the Catwalk! Only this year, it’s not a fashion show or an art walk, so they're calling it “Paws on the Dance Floor.” You can expect a high-energy dance party vibe with music and performers spanning the decades and genres. They will also have animal-themed shopping, exclusive HSSC swag for purchase, sumptuous cocktails, a tasty lunch with a decadent dessert, a fabulous live auction, and—of course—lots of adorable cats and dogs. Maybe you’ll even take home a new dance “pawtner!” They'll also have some fresh twists they think you’ll dig, like a viral dance challenge featuring their certified Hot Guys. Instead of the traditional all-white dress code, go platinum with your attire and dress like your favorite musical era or genre. If you’re not a party animal, don’t worry: no singing or dancing required. But don’t be surprised if you find your head bopping, your paws tapping, and your tail wagging. April 8, 2022: The Friday Jazz at Two Concert Series returns with The Danny Sinoff Trio. Enjoy the music of the great composers of the American Songbook and some jazz favorites with the Danny Sinoff Trio. Sinoff, on piano and vocals, lists his influences as Oscar Peterson, Bill Evans, Kenny Barron and Mulgrew Miller. Danny will be singing and the music swinging. April 9, 2022: The State College of Florida (SCF) Foundation will host “Come Sail Away,” a fun-filled family gathering with live music, food and fireworks at the 34th annual Evening Under the Stars. The Pops Orchestra, SCF Big Band and Chamber Choir will provide a rousing evening of popular cruising music, including hits by the Beatles, Beach Boys and Sheryl Crow. A fabulous fireworks finale will conclude the event. Proceeds will benefit the SCF Foundation to support scholarships, enhanced academic programming and capital improvements at the college. Evening Under the Stars is an open-air outdoor event, with socially distanced seating, hand sanitizer and masks freely available. 5:30 p.m. General lawn admission is $30 in advance or $35 at the gate. April 10, 2022: It's an Easter Egg Decorating & Easter Bonnet Contest! Prize for the most "eggs-travagantly" decorated Easter bonnet. This is a FREE event, but registration is mandatory, as spaces will be limited. No more than two adults per child, due to space availability in the Welcome Center. Adults have to accompany the child(s) and be present at the event. Please register for your child. Maximum four children per family. One registration per child. April 10, 2022: Enjoy the Selby Gardens Music Series with live music from Gloria Reuben. She is an actress, singer and published author with credits in television, film, theater and music. The music series features everything from classical pianists, folk, country, Latin and world music, jazz and standards, pop, soul and rock and roll, enjoy an eclectic variety of local and  international music in a world-class bayfront  garden. April 15, 2022: A Stations Of The Cross observance will be held. Sarasota congregations will observe The Stations of The Cross down the center of Main Street with an estimated 1,000 pilgrims in downtown Sarasota, Florida, stopping for each of the 14 Station's readings, prayers and choruses led by over 20 Sarasota congregations. The Christian pilgrimage gathers at 7:15 AM and begins at 7:30 AM on Main Street at the Hollywood 11 Theater. For those who want to park at the final station at the Church of the Redeemer Episcopal Church, Siesta Trolley will be transporting pilgrims from Redeemer Church beginning at 6:30 AM to Hollywood 11. The 2021 theme is “Dive into Reading” and the floats this year should  emulate the kid's favorite book, author, or be based around literature. April 24, 2022: It's the 19th Annual "Ride The Beaches" scenic bike rides sponsored by Sharky's on the Pier. There's a 70 mile, 35 mile and 15 mile ride. Check in and breakfast starts at 6:00 a.m. The 70 mile ride starts at 7:30 a.m. The 35 mile ride begins at 8 a.m. The 15 mile ride begins at 9 a.m. 1,000 PARTICIPANT LIMIT!. Must register by 01 April 2022 at midnight for a t-shirt!* *unless participation limit reached earlier. All riders will start the day with breakfast on the beach at Sharky’s. Breakfast will be fresh fruit, juice, bagels, fruit bread, and coffee. All rest stops will be stocked with water, sports drink, fresh fruit, snacks and/ or sandwiches. April 24, 2022: Get your motor running at the 18th Annual "Building to a Cure" Benefit Classic Car Show featuring classic and vintage vehicles from pre-1950s - 1990s. Always a great show with cars from every era on display for close up viewing. Participants compete for 28 Trophies. April 24, 2022: This concert season, Sarasota Orchestra expands its community engagement tour known as “SO on the Road” to bring live music into local parks and cultural destinations. While admission is free, attendees will be required to register to hold a seat at performances. Registration will open on Eventbrite one month prior to concerts. April 24 - 25, 2022: The Hurricane Expo, originally planned for Friday, May 20, at the Venice Community Center, will be virtual this year. The video release will include staff from the Police, Fire and Engineering departments; Sarasota County Emergency Management; and ABC-7 Meteorologist Bob Harrigan. The link to this video will be posted on the city website, VeniceGov.com, and social media platforms prior to the start of the 2022 hurricane season on June 1. April 25, 2021: TBA for 2022. Enjoy the 2020 Air Fair Giant Fly In sponsored by the Sarasota RC Squadron featuring radio controlled airplanes. Flying from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. both days. It is a free fly in for all to attend with plenty of free parking, handicap parking and is a wheel chair friendly flying field. Sun shelters are available with ceiling fans. Bring your own chairs and sunscreen. Food available. Free admission. Directions: The field is located 3 miles east on Bee Ridge Road (at the east end of Bee Ridge Road) in the Sarasota County Rothenback Park. April 25, 2022: Join the Venice Concert Band for SPRING BOUQUET. With the breath of springtime in the air, tonight’s performance will bring the current concert season to a beautiful conclusion.  With music from The Mission, Aladdin, and the composer Marvin Hamlish, you will leave this program with a refreshed spirit. Tickets will be available for this performance April 11, 2022.  If you do not have season tickets, you can purchase $14 tickets online two weeks before each performance or $14 (cash only) tickets at the door on concert dates. April 25, 2022: It's Monday Night Jazz at the Florida Studio Theatre Court Cabaret with Guitarist LaRue Nickelson and Friends. LaRue Nickelson, a jazz guitarist and composer from the Tampa Bay area has taught at USF since 2000. He has had a varied and diverse music career with many different groups. He has played in New York, Italy, South Africa, New Orleans, Indianapolis, Montreux, and California. A favorite accompanist for many musicians on Florida’s Westcoast. April 25 - 26, 2020: Siesta Fiesta took place last in October, 2020. TBA for  2022. It's the always popular 42nd annual Siesta Fiesta which takes place in Siesta Key Village from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. It's sort of a farewell party for all of our “snowbird” friends from the colder climates of the northern U.S, Canada and afar, who come to be with us in Sarasota throughout the winter season. April 28, 2022:  It's Free Music Friday Night Concert Series with live music at Centennial Park. The music of  Robert Garcia takes place at the Gazebo in the park. Attendees are asked to follow current CDC guidelines. Attendees are asked to bring their own chairs and blankets. No alcohol is permitted in Centennial Park. Enjoy a self-guided tour through the woods at North Water Tower Park and learn about the eco-benefits of Florida native trees, with Certified Arborists on-site to answer any tree questions you may have.Learn about the scientific and common names of the trees, the trees' native geographic range, size at maturity, and some interesting/fun facts. At 11:00 a.m., meet at the pavilion for a special tree-planting ceremony. The 2022-23 De Soto Queen and Princess will be crowned as the Captain and Crewe are honored at the Bradenton Area Convention Center. Together the Hernando de Soto, Captain, Padre, Queen and Princess are collectively called the “Royal Family.” International Krewe’s will don their parade regalia at this one of a kind event. April 30, 2022: Check out NBP Rec Day! This is a great opportunity for natural sound and family-friendly imagery on the water. For a small fee, children and their parents and siblings can get out on the water with their choice of our equipment, and switch out at their whim — kayaks, canoes, stand-up paddle boards, a pedal pontoon boat, even a 15-foot sailboat with captain (masks required). $10 per person. $5 per adult with accompanying child. Free for children ages 6 and younger. Family maximum: $35 (for households of five or more) All must complete the waiver form. April 30, 2022: Enjoy the De Soto Heritage Festival Grand Parade, a parade for all ages to see with over 150 parade entries. The  parade will follow its traditional route down 9th Avenue West to 39th Street West and continue down Manatee Avenue to 9th Street West and will feature beautifully decorated floats and krewes from throughout the southwest Florida area. Historically, it has been on of the largest parades in Florida. Tens of thousands of people will line the streets of Bradenton to view the illuminated floats and catch a glimpse of the new Hernando DeSoto, Captain of Crewe and their newly crowned Queen and Princess.  Beads, coins and other fun items are handed to the crowd throughout the night.
