April 1, 2020: Canceled. It's a free concert with live music on Wednesday with the Gentlemen of Jazz. Enjoy the tunes from 3 p.m. - 5 p.m. These free concerts take place in Centennial Park's Gazebo in downtown Venice, FL.
April 1, 2020: Postponed. Enjoy the Spring Concert performed by the Venice Community Orchestra and Friends with Conductor Bob Delfausse, Flute Soloist Karen Romig and Trumpet Soloist Luca Stine. April 1 - 5, 2020: Canceled. It's the 22nd Annual Sarasota Film Festival, one of the year's biggest events. It's 10 days of movies, celebrities and parties when Hollywood comes to Sarasota! Hollywood Stars that appeared here in 2019 were Greg Kinnear, Blythe Danner, Anne Heche,and Tyne Daily. Hollywood Stars who made appearances in 2018 included actress Virginia Madsen and actor Steve Guttenberg, who received a career achievement award from the festival. The 2017 Film Festival included Diane Lane, Rory Kennedy, and Aisha Tyler. Actors Stanley Tucci, and Rosanna Arquette, who took part in the "In Conversation With" series, also attended the 2017 festival. On the 2016 appearance agenda were actresses and actors: Sophia Loren, Olympia Dukakis, George Hamilton, Mathew Modine, and Treat Williams. Making appearances in 2015 were actresses Cloris Leachman, Jane Seymour and Blythe Danner. Making an appearance at the 2013 Film Festival was actress Mariel Hemingway. The 2012 Feature actor and special guest was Frank Langella. 2011's special guest and honoree was the legendary Christopher Plummer, who received the "Cinema Master" Award. April 1 - 5, 2020: Sarasota's Bayfront Park has been the backdrop for Embracing Our Differences' colorful, larger-than-life canvases integrating powerful imagery and thought-provoking messages celebrating diversity. The scale and impact of this outdoor exhibition has continued to grow, attracting over two million visitors since its inception. April 2, 2019: Canceled. The Bradenton Marauders will host “Meet the Marauders” with live music and games, including corn hole, the Marauders inflatable speed pitch, the prize wheel, and a photo booth where fans can pose for pictures with Marauders players. There are numerous wine events, lunches, grand tasting, brunch and charity auction, wine on the water, and winemaker dinners in and around Sarasota over the 4 day fest. April 2 - 13, 2020: Canceled. The critically-acclaimed La Musica International Chamber Music Festival celebrates 34 seasons this year with four concerts. Joining Artistic Director Bruno Giuranna (violist) and Associate Artistic Director Derek Han (pianist) this season are violinists Zachary DePue, Jennifer Frautschi, Anastasiya Petryshak; violist Daniel Palmizio; cellists Dmitri Atapine, Christine J. Lee; harpist Ann Hobson Pilot; pianist Steven Lin; violist Daniel Palmizio; Dee Moses on double bass; and Brandon Ridenour on trumpet. Ridenour’s arrangement of four John Lennon/Paul McCartney songs for trumpet and string quintet is featured in the April 10 concert. April 3, 2020: CANCELED. Get your toes tapping at "Jazz at Two" with Brian Post's Oceans 11 Band. Led by the extraordinary drummer Bryan Post, Oceans Eleven is dedicated to promoting and continuing the jazz traditions as practiced by Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Buddy Rich , and Quincy Jones among others. This ensemble combines years of experience, incredible showmanship and vibrant solos by some of Sarasota's finest musicians. April 3, 2020: CANCELED. Another season of Music in the Park is underway at the Riverwalk in Bradenton. April 3, 2020: Canceled. It's the first Friday of the month so that means Music on Main at Lakewood Ranch is from 6 p.m. - 9 p.m with The Daisy Dukes Band, who will fill the air with good times & hot country jams. Beer, wine and food sales. Bring your chairs, but leave coolers at home. Dogs are welcome, but must be kept on a short leash. Overflow parking is available at the Lakewood Ranch Medical Center. April 3, 2020: Due to the challenges and uncertainty of trying to plan a safe event the series is canceled for 2021. April 4, 2020: Canceled. It's the 34th Annual Run/walk for the Turtles sponsored by Mote Marine on Siesta Key Public Beach. Registration begins at 6:30 a.m. at the Siesta Key Gazebo south of the pavilion. As a reminder, do not pick up supplies at either location (Sarasota or Nokomis) the week of March 30 - April 3 or report to your cleanup location on April 4. Register to volunteer for the 2020 Great American Cleanup and Keep Sarasota County Beautiful! Cleanup projects take place at various locations throughout Sarasota County. Pre-event registration is required. The first 700 volunteers who register will qualify for FIRST OPTION ACCESS to this year's commemorative t-shirts. April 4, 2020: Canceled. Hippity Hop Hop! Lakewood Ranch hosts its "EGGstravaganza" Easter Egg Hunt at Greenbrook Adventure Park for kids ages 2 -13. The day's events and attractions also feature the grand arrival of the Easter Bunny. Bring your own baskets to collect eggs in. Museum Day is a one-day event in which participating museums and cultural institutions across the country provide free entry to anyone presenting a Museum Day ticket. Participants are allowed to download one ticket per email address. The ticket provides free general admission on Saturday, April 4, 2020, for two people. The State College of Florida Foundation will host “Come Sail Away,” a fun-filled family gathering featuring music, food and fireworks at the annual Evening Under the Stars. Bring your friends, coolers and lawn chairs to enjoy The Venice Symphony and the SCF Big Band performing your favorite cruising music from The Beach Boys, Christopher Cross, Sheryl Crow, the Beatles and more, topped off with a grand fireworks finale. This socially distanced event will feature live music with food and drink for purchase. Tickets are limited and must be purchased in advance. The University of South Florida’s Sarasota-Manatee campus will hold a unique and sumptuous Bulls Bistro dinner with proceeds benefiting the campus’ College of Hospitality & Tourism Leadership. The event, “Taste of the past, flavors of today,” will present a contemporary twist on classic American cuisine – all within the elegant 1920’s-era Crosley Estate. Patrons will be treated to an array of amuse-bouche (bite-sized hors d’oeuvres) followed by an entrée choice of peppercorn-encrusted New York strip with a wild rice medley, smoked orange-glazed chicken with orange-and-pepper confit served with pearl couscous or curry cashew sweet potatoes and cranberry served over cauliflower (vegan); all entries come with seasonal vegetables. 5:30 p.m. - 9 p.m. The cost is $75. It will be the nineteenth year Sarasota congregations observe The Stations of The Cross down the center of Main Street with an estimated 1,000 pilgrims in downtown Sarasota, Florida, stopping for each of the 14 Station's readings, prayers and choruses led by 30 Sarasota congregations. April 10, 2020: CANCELED. It's the annual Hernando De Soto Children’s Parade! The 2020 theme is “Dive into Reading” and the floats this year should emulate the kid's favorite book, author, or be based around literature. Also for the fifteenth year, they will be awarding $1,000 to the participating school who’s float entry best represents this year’s theme. Three additional $500 prizes. April 10, 2020: Canceled. Check out Spooky Stories Ghost Tours at Historic Spanish Point. Enjoy Spooky Stories of Florida's past as you walk our historic houses, ancient mounds, and our pioneer cemetery. There will be two tours each evening. The tours will meet at the white Gazebo on the Historic Spanish Point site and each tour will last approximately 90 minutes and will be roughly a ¾ of a mile walk outdoors with some pathways up and down stairs. April 11, 2020: Canceled. Bring the little ones to the Siesta Key Children's Easter Party and Egg Hunt for ages 1 - 6 at Turtle Beach. This family-friendly event is open to children ages 1-6 ($10 per child). There will be goody bags, fire truck & ambulance tours, the mounted patrol, Kona Ice, and photos with the Easter Bunny! Children ages 1 to 6 are invited to register and participate. Approximate time slots for the Egg Hunt are designated by age groups: 10:00 a.m. (2 years of age and younger); 10:30 a.m. (3-4 years of age); and 11:00 a.m. (5-6 years of age). April 27, 2020: CANCELED. Check out the Jazz Club of Sarasota Monday Night Jazz at the Florida Studio Theatre Cabaret Series with Roy Gerson Quartet. Roy Gerson is an American jazz pianist. He appeared in the movies, The Cotton Club, Crimes and Misdemeanors, The Mirror Has Two Faces and The Associate. Gerson performed in jazz clubs in New York City during the 1990s at venues such as the Village Gate, Blue Note, Tavern on the Green and others. ''What I like best about (him) is that besides being a great musician, he truly loves to perform and finds great joy in entertaining people,'' said Tony Bennett. Members $35; non members $39.
