Siesta Key Sand Sculpture Contest Sarasota Florida

May 1, 2021: Bring your pail, shovel, sunglasses and creativity to Siesta Key Public Beach for the Annual Siesta Key Sand Sculpture Contest. The contest, traditionally held the first Saturday of May, is held near the Pavilion on the beautiful white sandy Siesta Public Beach. Free and open to all ages of participation, the Siesta Sand Sculpture Contest also awards five cash prizes and is one of our very popular happenings for both locals and visitors on our Escape to Sarasota Calendar of Events. May 1, 2021: It's the annual Porsches in the Park Car Show at the beautiful St. Armand's Circle. Some of the most spectacular Porsche cars from all over Florida will be on display in the center of the circle for public viewing. It’s a fun-filled day meeting friends and experiencing these beautiful automobiles up close and personal. May 1, 2021: It's the 5th annual, 2021 Beach'n Food Truck & Music Festival. This all day family friendly festival features: several live bands, a  classic car show from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m., arts and crafts vendors, a kid zone and local bands will be performing live music from 10 a.m. - 8 p.m. to keep you jamming all throughout the day into the evening...lots of food trucks including some of the area's favorite food trucks! Refreshing adult beverages will be available – from wine, margaritas, rum runners and cold beer to soft drinks and water. Telescopes will be up and available for public viewing from sunset. - 10 p.m. - 10:30 p.m. (weather permitting). At Riverview High School, 1 Ram Way, Sarasota, FL. Sidewalk Astronomy at Sarasota's Riverview High School Planetarium is located on the Sidewalk outside the Planetarium theater.

May 1 - 2, 2021: The Florida State Fair takes place and gates open daily at 9 a.m.The fairgrounds are at 4800 U.S. 301N. Tampa. You can also get there via I-75. (From I-75 N, take exit 261 to merge onto I-4 W toward Tampa. Take exit 7 to merge onto FL-600 W/E Hillsborough Ave/US-92 W toward US-301 W/Busch Gardens. Take the ramp to Riverview, Merge onto FL-41 S/FL-43 S/US-301 S. Continue to follow FL-43 S/US-301 S - fairgrounds will be on the right).  I've gotten there in about 75 minutes from Sarasota. May 1 - 2, 2021: It's fun for all kids and kids at heart. It's the PAL Sailor Circus Spring Show! The Greatest "little Show on Earth" celebrates the tradition of the circus arts with more than 100 young circus artists. The youth circus, with members from 8 - 18 years old, uses over 800 costumes along with music from many of your favorite animated classics. Tickets $20 - $30. The Grand Tasting annually takes place at the Ringling Museum Courtyard and sells out fast each year however in 2021 they will host an Online Auction. May 1 - 9, 2021: The Annual Sarasota Film Festival, is one of the year's biggest events. It's 10 days of movies, celebrities and parties when Hollywood comes to Sarasota! The 23rd Annual Sarasota Film Festival will take place both in person and virtually this year. The box office opens Thursday, April 15th. More details will be announced in the upcoming weeks.The Sarasota Film Festival is a staple in Sarasota and the film community, drawing over 50,000 patrons, who gather to celebrate the best in cinema. Over the last two decades, the festival has screened groundbreaking films, documentaries and shorts that deliver key messages to audiences, as well as engaging them in conversations with actors, filmmakers and industry professionals.The Sarasota Film Festival is a favored destination for filmmakers, national press, industry executives and stars. Hollywood Stars that appeared here in 2019 were Greg Kinnear, Blythe Danner, Anne Heche,and Tyne Daily. Hollywood Stars who made appearances in 2018 included actress Virginia Madsen and actor Steve Guttenberg, who received a career achievement award from the festival. The 2017 Film Festival included Diane Lane, Rory Kennedy, and Aisha Tyler. Actors Stanley Tucci, and Rosanna Arquette, who took part in the "In Conversation With" series, also attended the 2017 festival. On the 2016 appearance agenda were actresses and actors: Sophia Loren, Olympia Dukakis, George Hamilton, Mathew Modine, and Treat Williams. Making appearances in 2015 were actresses Cloris Leachman, Jane Seymour and Blythe Danner. Making an appearance at the 2013 Film Festival was actress Mariel Hemingway. May 1 - May 31, 2021:The Tampa Bay Rays have announced registration is now open for the second annual Running with the Rays, a virtual 5K race, presented by United Concordia Dental. All proceeds benefit the Rays Baseball Foundation and Rowdies Soccer Fund, a 501(c)(3) organization and the official charity of the Rays and Rowdies. The Running with the Rays virtual 5K allows fans to run, jog, walk or roll the 3.1 miles at their own pace and at the location of their choice anytime between May 1-31. Participants have the option to upload their race time to the Running with the Rays 5K results platform and share photos on social media using #Rays5K. For $30, registration includes a commemorative finisher’s medal, modeled after the team’s 2020 American League Championship trophy, a race bib and downloadable finisher’s certificate. Now through June 30, 2021, you can run, walk or crawl to support our sea turtle conservation and research during their all-virtual, 35th Annual Run for the Turtles! Get a a 35th Annual Run t-shirt with their registration. Money raised supports Mote's Sea Turtle programs. Submit your favorite songs for our Run for the Turtles playlist by May 1, 2021 (the start of sea turtle nesting season in southwest Florida).

May 1 - July 23, 2021:The Bradenton Marauders are accepting video submissions for National Anthem performers for the 2021 season. Those wishing to perform The Star Spangled Banner or O Canada must send a video recording of their performance to MaraudersInfo@pirates.com. Performers may submit either a vocal or instrumental performance along with their name. Individuals and groups are welcome to submit. Each selected performance will be played on the LECOM Park video board prior to the first pitch of a Marauders game. Prospective singers must feel comfortable performing in front of a camera and have a good audio set up. Videos must be submitted in a .mp4 format. They must be filmed in a landscape format. Submissions will be accepted through July 23rd. Those who are selected will be notified by a Marauders representative at least a week prior to their scheduled performance. May 2, 2021: Enjoy Sunday in the Park with Strings Con Brio. Join the award-winning orchestra, Strings Con Brio, for an afternoon of light classical and popular selections which are sure to be crowd-pleasers. May 2, 2021: Enjoy Sarasota's own Ski-A-Rees Water Ski Team and their Sunday afternoon show at 2 p.m. at Ski-A-Ree Stadium. This free show takes place at 1602 Ken Thompson Parkway (near/behind Mote Marine Aquarium on the water.) 2 p.m. 388-1666. (They will be asking all in attendance to wear masks. We will be blocking off bleacher seats to allow for social distanced seating, as well as social distancing while on property at Ski-A-Rees Stadium.)

May 2, 2021: Celebrate World Laughter Day *with thousands of people around the world! From Venice Florida,they will be participating on zoom in the LaughterYogaUSA.org event from 3 p.m. - 4 p.m. EDT, so please go to that website to register for a free & fun event where you get to laugh and laugh and laugh! Then from 6:30 p.m. - 7pm Venice Beach in Venice, Florida will be the site for a physicaly distanced Laughter event where your giggles, guffaws, chuckles and good vibes are needed, wanted and desired! May 3 - 17, 2021: Enjoy the Bayfront Gardens at The Ringling for Acoustic Sunsets with a solo musician on Ca' d'Zan Terrace! This socially distanced event will feature live music with food and drink for purchase. Tickets are limited and must be purchased in advance. Masks are encouraged when social distancing isn't possible. Enjoy a relaxing evening of music during sunset. Sandwiches, snacks, and drinks will be available for purchase on the terrace, and The Ringling Grillroom is offering other tasty items for pre-order. Please pre-order your items 24 hours in advance. May 4, 2021: The Bradenton Marauders will embark on their 12th season in franchise history. The Marauders will open their season at LECOM Park on Tuesday, May 4, kicking off a six- game series against the Fort Myers Mighty Mussels (Minnesota Twins). Bradenton will follow with their first road series, a six - game set against the Dunedin Blue Jays (Toronto Blue Jays) beginning May 11. The season will consist of 120 games, including 60 home games and 60 road games. Each Monday will be a league - wide off day, and no league playoffs will be held.  LECOM Park, 1611 9th St W, Bradenton, FL

May 6, 2021: Sarasota’s National Day Of Prayer Outside Happening. Come to pray with Sarasota Leadership at Sarasota's National Day of Prayer. Pray with representatives from the Sarasota Police Department, Office of the Sheriff, City and County Commissioners, business leaders. Clergy from Sarasota’s Judeo Christian community shall lead prayers for reconciliations in America. Come to watch and pray for each other and America. Organized by the Sarasota Ministerial Association in collaboration with The Sarasota House of Prayer. 6:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at Restoration Fellowship, 5614 Richardson Rd., Sarasota, FL 34232 outside campus.

May 7, 2021: Canceled TFN. It's the first Friday of the month on so that means Music on Main at Lakewood Ranch from 6 - 9 p.m! Beer, wine and food available. The Midnight Mama band will fill the air with a mix of rock/soul & dance music. The street is lined with food vendors, beer trucks, and sponsor booths, as well as rides and activities for the kids. Bring your chairs, but leave coolers at home. Dogs are welcome, but must be kept on a short leash. Overflow parking is available at the Lakewood Ranch Medical Center. May 7, 2021: The Sarasota Film Festival's famous Friday Night Street Party will be hosted by Fred Schneider of the B-52s and feature a host of notable local musicians and food trucks with cuisine from around the world at the location of SFF's brand new offices. 7:30 p.m. - 11:30 p.m. Tickets: $10. The party will be on 4th street, between Cocoanut ave & Central ave in downtown Sarasota, FL.

May 7 - 9, 2021: Canceled for 2021.  It's the 4th annual Venice Seafood & Music Festival taking place in Centennial Park featuring seafood, meat and vegetarian delights prepared fresh on site by local Venice restaurants along with drinks. Enjoy your foodie experience while jamming to live musical performances on stage by some of Florida’s and the region’s top musical talents. May 8, 2021: Canceled for 2021. It's the Great Mother’s Day Race 5K Run/Walk Sarasota. This 5K race is at the number one beach in the world: Siesta Key Beach. Not only will you run next to pristine waters, you’ll get to experience the incredible white sands. It doesn’t get better than this! They offer free race pictures, dry-fit shirt, race medal, custom bib, goodie bag, awards and prizes, food and drinks, and more. Registration Prices/dates vary. May 8, 2021: The Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall announces Bay Music Live! Yesterdayze brings the high-energy music of the ’60s to the Van Wezel’s lawn and terrace for an outdoor, socially-distanced performance. The event starts at 6 p.m. with music at 6:30 p.m. Lawn spaces and tables will be pre-arranged for social distancing, and guests can enjoy fresh air and a stroll on the Mangrove Bayou Walkway. Tickets go on sale Friday, April 9 at 10 a.m. Lawn spaces on the grass accommodating up to 4 guests are $70. Guests reserving lawn spaces are encouraged to bring seating or blankets for their respective spaces if they do not want to sit directly on the grass. Spaces will be pre-arranged and marked by Van Wezel staff. Table seating for up to 4 guests is available for $100 per table. “Burgers on the Bay” crafted by Mattison’s (hamburgers, cheeseburgers, chicken-burgers and veggie-burgers) will be available for purchase at the event. May 8 - 9, 2020: Not scheduled at this time for 2021. Perhaps later in the year.  You're invited to join the Sarasota Orchestra for a fan-friendly outdoor Pops concert at Ed Smith Stadium. The Orchestra's 7th annual concert at the ballpark will feature iconic songs of the 1970s. Enjoy classic favorites such as James Taylor’s Fire and Rain, Fleetwood Mac’s Landslide, Carole King’s You’ve Got a Friend and so much more. A spectacular fireworks display closes out an evening of hits and home runs. Tickets $15 - $48. May 8 - June 13, 2021: It's time to drop your hook, line and sinker for the 91st Sarasota Tarpon Tournament! Entry fee is $150 and proceeds benefit a local charitable organization. Important Dates: Details for the date and location of this years' Kick Off event have yet to be determined due to the fluid nature of the pandemic. Further information will be announced. Happy angling and may you catch your share!

May 9, 2021: The John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art is pleased to announce an extraordinary slate of activities to honor Mom on her special day. The museum staff has created a Special Mother's Day Pop-Up Audio Tour. This curated audio experience will guide visitors through works of art related to motherhood. You can also celebrate Mom on The Ringling’s 66-acres of gardens and Level II Arboretum by enjoying a Bayfront Gardens Tour. Masks are required of all participants, as well as social distancing. Tours are subject to weather conditions. The Tour will be offered at 10:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. on Mother's Day. Space is limited and tickets are required. The Ringling will also offer a Mother’s Day Brunch at The Ringling Grillroom! Located in the John M. McKay Visitor's Pavilion, the Ringling Grillroom will offer a variety of traditional brunch entrees. Both indoor and outdoor seating and take-away service are available. May 9 - 13, 2021: Canceled for 2021. There are no plans for the festival until next season. The annual Sarasota Jazz Festival usually hosts concerts around the city for a week. Some of the venues from previous years have included Phillippi Estate Park, Burns Court Cinema, Sarasota Municipal Auditorium, and the Art Center Sarasota. For "Swinging Under the Stars" in 2021 the event will take place at Nathan Benderson Park and will feature among others The Manhattan Transfer, Ken Peplowski. Nathan Benderson Park, 5851 Nathan Benderson Cir, Sarasota, FL. (A note from the jazz Club: "Yes, we know it might be too soon. That's why a final decision to hold the festival will not be made until March 31st. We will have everything in place and organized to start selling tickets then, but only if the virus numbers are way down and if vaccine inoculations are way up.")

May 13 - 16, 2021: The 12th annual Harvey Milk Drive In Festival features a variety of music, art, theatre and film events. The Drive-in Series is to create a safe space for their community to stay connected and celebrate the arts and advocacy. Performance Art, Drag, Dance, Music, and Film. They will have safety zones next to each vehicle for those who arrive together. a mask will be required to roam the grounds and only can be removed at the designated safety zones. They also will have a market of artisan vendors and food vendors as well as our HMF bar and beer truck. Drinks and food may only be consumed at your safety zone. The events will have tickets and we will announce when they go on sale. Because of the safety measures we will be charging a ticket price for these events. TBA. In the Wake of Coronavirus. May 14, 2021: It's the Free Music Friday Night Concert. Grab a mask and enjoy the music and fun in downtown's Centennial Park. Music group: Dean Johanesen with Gypsy Swing music. Free and open to the public.7 p.m. - 9 p.m. Bring your lawn chair or blanket for seating. COVID-19 safety plan is in place! They are asking family and friend groups to limit to a maximum of 6 people sitting together or less. Attendees are REQUIRED TO WEAR A MASK during the entire concert. Everyone is asked to remain socially distant and follow CDC guidelines for safety.

May 15, 2021: U.S. Dragon Boat Federation National Championships postponed to July 10, 2021. It's the Sarasota International Dragon Boat Festival. Everyone ages 12+ are invited to take part. Gather 24 of your friends, co-workers, church friends, family, etc. and form a team! Boats, life-vests, paddles and coaches are provided...you provide the fun! Race distances include 200m and 500m events for Sport and Community Division teams, with the addition of the ever-thrilling 2k pursuit for Sport Division teams only. Interested teams are required to sign up in advance for a fee. Various entrant/team fees. Beer tent, food truck vendors, Health & Wellness Village, Marketplace, Entertainment and more. May 15, 2021: Check out "A Day of Celtic Music" presented by Cultural Heritage Center, New World Celts and Fisherman's Village. May 15, 2021: The Pops Orchestra of Bradenton and Sarasota will perform for the High-Five Pop-Up Concert Series. Conductor Robyn Bell will lead a 60-minute show full of laughs, stories, and light classical, Broadway, film, and other popular music performed by the chamber music groups. May 15 - 16, 2021: This event was approved and then put back into "preapproval" stage. The new Siesta Key event date is June 19-20, 2021.  Can you dig it? It's the Dig The Beach - Siesta Key Volley Ball Classic bouncing in for the weekend. May 20, 2021 -  August 8, 2021: An international art exhibit designed to proclaim inclusion, respect and kindness debuts at Sarasota-Bradenton’s Nathan Benderson Park. The annual, juried art exhibit is composed by a Sarasota-based arts and education non-profit, Embracing Our Differences (EOD). It consists of 50 billboard-sized works of art, each accompanied by an inspirational quote. The international exhibit uses the power of art and prose to promote diversity and inclusion. The 2021 exhibit brought 15,912 entries from 128 nations, and from 48 U.S. states. The winning quotes and art are showcased in Sarasota’s Bayfront Park every year, from January through March. Thanks to the generosity of the Charles & Margery Barancik Foundation, the public will have another opportunity to see this exhibit. May 22, 2021: Remember and honor those heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice for our great nation and the freedoms we hold dear at the Tribute to Heroes concert this year, featuring the band Whiskey Blind, organized in a socially distanced way at Lakewood Ranch's Greenbrook Adventure Park. The baseball field will house the event stage and there will be spaced out seating for our veterans, and their families and friends, and lawn seating for our residents to congregate in a safe way together. 5 p.m. - 7 p.m. Tickets are required and FREE when registering in advance for Lakewood Ranch residents, $10 per ticket for non-residents. May 24, 2021:  It's the 21st Annual Siesta Key Chamber Golf Tournament at TPC Prestancia's Stadium Course. This private outing presents a unique opportunity for Chamber members and guests to play a round of golf on the private, championship-style course. 7:30 a.m. Registration starts along with complimentary continental breakfast. 9:00 a.m. Shotgun start; tournament commences. May 26, 2021: Check out the Parade of Champions which will honor the Venice High School Girls Soccer Team and their winning the Class 6A state championship in March. The parade is set to step off at 5 p.m. from Venice H.S., down Miami Avenue and Nassau Street and ending up at Centennial Park where there will be "free" hot dogs sold for donations that will help pay for championship rings. May 27, 2021: The Bridge Jazz Concert series is a collaborative project with the Jazz Club of Sarasota, Fogartyville/WSLR, and SAMBA, a group of area jazz enthusiasts anxious to bridge the void of excellent jazz performances created by the pandemic.The final show in the Concert series begins at 7:30 and features vocalist Synia Carroll and the LaLucha Trio. Jazz vocalist Synia Carroll has a unique ability to use her deep, silky-smooth voice to engage with her audiences and establish a connection few singers are able to achieve. LaLucha is a Tampa Bay based trio that has been voted the Best in the Bay by Creative Loafing four consecutive years. The concert will be live streamed with a limited in person audience. May 28, 2021: It's the Free Music Friday Night Concert. Grab a mask and enjoy the music and fun in downtown's Centennial Park. May 28 - 30, 2021: It's the 2021 Women's Rowing Championships. The NCAA Rowing Championships will be a ticketed event for a limited number of spectators. May 29, 2021: Yo-ho, mateys! Bring the kids to Snook Adams Kids Day for a fun celebration to end the school year. The Anna Maria Island Privateers annual fest includes free hot dogs, pizza and drinks. Lots of games and fun for kids of all ages. Admission is FREE. Kids will receive free hot dog and drink. May 29, 2021: The Venice Symphony is thrilled to announce that the orchestra will perform live at the 2nd annual Patriotic Pops Concert at Cool Today Park. The concert will be followed by a fireworks display. The program will feature popular American music, an Armed Forces Medley, a tribute to veterans and more. Sergeant First Class Randall Wight, a member of the U.S. Army Field Band since 2005, returns as guest vocalist. Seating will be socially-distanced and masks will be required when guests are not seated or eating. Tickets are $15 - $50 for adults and $10 for 17 and younger and will be available at Ticketmaster.com at a later date. Memorial Day at the National Cemetery will be held only virtually and honor America's fallen military members in remembrance of their ultimate sacrifice. With special guests and dignitaries, the ceremonies will be broadcast live here on their Facebook Page at 10 a.m. from Sarasota National Cemetery Patriot's Plaza, 9810 State Rd 72, Sarasota, FL. May 31, 2021: Sarasota Memorial Day Parade: For the 2nd year in a row the Sarasota Memorial Day Parade has been canceled due to COVID but there will be a special ceremony held at 11 a.m. at J.D. Hamel Park, 199 Bayfront Dr, Sarasota, FL. The ceremony will include singer Lauren Nielsen and guest speaker Linda Gould. The 2021 ceremony will also include a Color Guard, Pipers, and more.

May 31, 2021: The Annual Venice Area Memorial Day Ceremony will NOT be held at Patriots Park. Neither the local American Legion NO-VEL Post Nor Venice VFW Post 8118 have plans to host an event at Patriots Park in Venice. Patriots Park 800 Venetia Bay Blvd. Venice, FL. May 31, 2021: Snook Haven present the 9th Annual Myakka River Blues Festival on Memorial Day. This year's lineup includes Lauen Mitchel, Steve Arvery, Rooster & Broccoli, Tommy Z and a special finale jam session. Snook Haven is off the beaten path, near the riverbed in a natural cove with true old Florida ambiance. There will be two stages with non-stop music. Tickets: $10 pre-sale and $20 at the door.
