May 1, 2026: It's Music in the Park. On Friday evenings there are few better ways to relax and welcome in the weekend than listening to great local music in an outdoor setting. Enjoy the best in local music at the Rossi Park Pavilion on the Riverwalk. Tonight's music is by Eric Von Band with Rock/Country from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. - bring a chair or blanket for relaxing and listening! May 1, 2026: It's the first Friday of the month on so that means Music on Main at Lakewood Ranch from 6 - 9 p.m.! Fleming Co. will fill the air with coastal indie pop, and the event will benefit SRQ Vets. Beer, wine and food available. Bluestar will fill the air with the sounds of authentic blues and the event will benefit the Lakewood Ranch Community Foundation. The street is lined with food vendors, beer trucks, and sponsor booths, as well as rides and activities for the kids. Bring your chairs, but leave coolers at home. May 1, 2026: It's the Back to the 80s Block Party. Fresh Fridays is turning up the energy for one of the most anticipated nights of the season. As we head into the final stretch, downtown Sarasota is coming alive with excitement, bringing together a growing crowd of locals and visitors who look forward to these events month after month. Fresh Fridays takes over S. Palm Ave in Downtown Sarasota as we go Back to the 80s with live music, standout giveaways, and a vibrant atmosphere you won’t want to miss. 7 p.m. - 10 p.m. Palm Avenue, downtown Sarasota, FL. 

May 1 - 3, 2026: Sarasota County invites volunteers to 6th Annual Beach Blast Trifecta. Registration is required. Join the annual beach clean-up and give back to the community while earning service hours or extra credit! Pick from three local beaches or participate in all three. Teens who attend all three will earn six service hours and be entered for a chance to win a gift card. Prizes will be given out after the last clean-up on Sunday, May 3. May 2, 2026: It's the 28th annual Corvettes on the Circle Car Show at the beautiful St. Armand's Circle where you can spend the day viewing over 150 models of an American automotive classic. The show is limited to 175 models. The show will include all Corvette model years from the classic 1953 C1 to the current Corvette Stingray. Trophies will be awarded to the top three Corvettes in each generational class as well as Best in Show and Skyway Corvette Club Favorite. May 2, 2026: It's the 11th Annual SUP & RUN 5K. Three great races and world-class venue. Every finisher receives a custom finisher medal. The race shirts are AMAZING! AWARDS GO 6 DEEP IN EACH 5 YEAR AGE GROUP! SWAG, to quote a participant, "this race SWAG is truly head and shoulders above most races" The food & post-race celebration party is FUN! FUN! Whoa! May 2, 2026: POSTPONED TO MAY 1, 2027. It's Manatee's 5th Annual Taco Fest. The MAFT 2026 event featured over 85 of Tri-State Area's Best Taco and other Food Vendors alongside a variety of Specialty Cocktails, Artisans and entertainment. May 2, 2026: It's Margaritaville Night with the Bradenton Marauders. Come watch the Marauders take on the Lakeland Flying Tigers in special themed Margaritaville night. A variety of jewelry, pottery, ceramics, photography, painting, clothing and much more - all handmade in America - will be on display, ranging from $15 to $3,000. May 3, 2025: TBA for 2026. Check out some heavenly bodies with The Local Group of Deep Sky Observers and Sidewalk Astronomy at Celery Fields in Sarasota, weather-permitting.  During their last event of the season, the first quarter Moon will be visible throughout the evening along with the planet Mars, which will be seen nearly adjacent to the Moon all night long. The gas-giant planet Jupiter and its four largest moons will be observable early in the evening, and other celestial objects will be targeted by the club member’s telescopes. May 3, 2026: Enjoy Sarasota's own Ski-A-Rees Water Ski Team and their last Sunday afternoon show of the season at 2 p.m. at Ski-A-Ree Stadium. May :The Annual Siesta Key Sand Sculpture Contest is no longer. From the Sarasota County Recreation Department: "After 50 years, the Amateur Sand Sculpting Contest has come to a close. Low participation was the main component to our decision. Crystal Classic has an amateur component to the festival in November and we hope some sculptures will come to participate then." May 7, 2026: Celebrate the National Day of Prayer in downtown Sarasota. This, year on May 7, the 2026 theme calls us to, “Glorify God Among the Nations, Seeking Him in All Generations.” It is inspired by a passionate prayer of Thanksgiving, prayed by King David in 1 Chronicles 16 after bringing the Ark of the Covenant to Jerusalem. This chapter records Israel celebrating the return of the Ark after being separated from them 70 years earlier. The moving of God’s Holy Spirit on college campuses, and especially among young 18- to 30-year-olds in congregations today, heralds this sense of return. May 7, 2026: It's the Venice National Day Of Prayer Outside Happening. Bring a chair and join the First Baptist Church of Venice for an hour of worship, music, and speakers. May 9, 2026: Selby Gardens presents the Fifth Annual Gospel Jubilee Showcase, featuring Westcoast Black Theater Group and starring Shantel Norman! Join us under the banyan trees on our beautiful Great Lawn. Food and beverages will be available for purchase from the Selby House Café, The Barnyard Food Truck, and Sylvia’s Heavenly Cheesecakes! May 9 - June 14, 2026: It's time to drop your hook, line and sinker for the 96th Sarasota Tarpon Tournament! Entry fee is $150 and proceeds benefit a local charitable organization. Fishing boundaries are Northern Tip of Anna Maria to Southern Side of Stump Pass. May 16, 2026: It's the upcoming Junior Ranger Jamboree 2026, a special day dedicated to connecting young explorers with the beauty and wonder of Myakka. While this event is designed with children in mind, it’s also a wonderful opportunity to bring along grandchildren, visiting family members, or simply to enjoy the park as it comes alive with hands-on learning and community spirit. Join in at the South Pavilion for a relaxed, family-friendly gathering featuring: Interactive Junior Ranger stations led by park rangers. Hands-on activities where children can earn stamps and work toward a Junior Ranger badge. Opportunities to learn about local wildlife, ecosystems, and outdoor skills. In addition, guests can enjoy games, a quiet reading area, and music from a DJ sponsored by Friends of Myakka River, along with other engaging activities throughout the day. May 16, 2026: Fishermen’s Village will present the 6th annual Celtic Fest Presented in partnership with the Cultural Heritage Center of Southwest Florida and the New World Celts (Sarasota Chapter), visitors to Fishermen’s Village will experience authentic Celtic musicians from all over the country, joining together to bring this fun, interactive annual event to fruition! 12 noon-9 pm Sunset Beach Club and Center Court. May 17, 2026:  The Sarasota County Fire Department (SCFD) is excited to continue its monthly open house events in 2025, inviting the community to connect with their local firefighters and learn about fire safety. These free, family-friendly open houses are held one Saturday each month from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Car seat safety inspections and bike helmet fittings will also be available. May 18, 2026: The Jazz Club of Sarasota's Monday Night Jazz at the Cabaret on May 18 presents an evening of jazz featuring  La Lucha, a Tampa Bay based trio that features bassist Alejandro Arenas, pianist John O’Leary and drummer Mark Feinman. Memorial Day Weekend Events

May 20, 2026: Marie Selby Botanical Gardens presents its 2026 Performances at the Point outdoor world class performances by local performing arts organizations at the Historic Spanish Point campus in Osprey with the Dirk Quinn Band. Dirk Quinn...is the guitarist for the jazz/funk band that coincidentally bears his name. Based out of Philadelphia, the group travels extensively throughout the US and Canada. Utilizing over a decade of steady performing, they've developed a unique and sincere style - one that appeals to a wide variety of music listeners with fans ranging from the beard stroking jazz aficionados to the jam band hippies. The event is from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., doors open at 6:00 p.m., and guests will have time to enjoy the area around the historic White Cottage, Sunken Garden, and Pergola overlooking Little Sarasota Bay prior to the performance. Food and beverages will be available for purchase from Michael’s on East. May 21 - 23, 2026: Check it out! Laser Light Nights are back at The Bishop Museum of Science and Nature! Think concerts, but you’re inside a dome getting blasted with visuals from every angle. And this whole thing runs all summer, Thursdays through Saturdays, with multiple showtimes so you can stack your night. Now the lineup: Classic legends like Queen, The Beatles, and Elton John! Pop icons like Taylor Swift and The Weekend. Rock and alt like Metallica, Foo Fighters, and No Doubt. Special themed nights and throwback shows. Basically, every night hits different, so you can keep coming back and it still feels fresh. Just know it gets loud and flashy, so it’s more of a hype night out than a chill museum stroll. The event takes place every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday night from May 21 through September 5. There are various food and drink options available for purchase onsite with cash or card. May 22 - 25, 2026: Join in this Memorial Day weekend to honor our fallen heroes. Experience the Remembering Our Fallen photographic war memorial, a tribute to the men and women in uniform who have made the ultimate sacrifice since 9/11/2001, including over 300 servicemembers from Florida. Memorial Day Weekend Events

May 23, 2026: SRQ VETS is hosting the 11th Annual Memorial Day 5K Hike to honor the fallen heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice. This event will work to unite the local veterans and civilian communities while raising funds to support SRQ VETS and their efforts to help the local veterans. SRQ VETS is a 100% volunteer veteran-run 501c3 whose mission is to find resources and get them to our local veterans and their families. The hike will start at JD Hamel War Memorial Park then over the Ringling Bridge, then back to the Park for an afternoon of fun that includes a Cookout, Music, & Inflatables. May 23, 2026: Volunteers are needed for the 2026 11th Annual Sarasota Memorial Day Flag Placement at Sarasota National Cemetery. Flag Placement at Sarasota National Cemetery will be held at 7:30am. Families will place their loved one's flag at 7:50am, remaining flags will be placed beginning at 8am. Enter at East Entrance and park near maintenance. Rally Point is at the POW/MIA Flag Pole by 7:30am. Bring a rubber mallet, a 6 inch Phillips screwdriver and a 12" ruler. Beverages will NOT be provided. May 23, 2026: This year Memorial Day at the Sarasota National Cemetery will honor America's fallen military members in remembrance of their ultimate sacrifice. The Department of Veterans Affairs Sarasota National Cemetery will host a  tribute honoring the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in military service to America. Members of the Gold Star families will share their personal stories about loved ones who gave their lives for the nation’s freedom. The public is asked to join Gold Star families at 10 a.m. and visit the cemetery through the day in remembrance. May 25, 2026:The Sarasota Memorial Day Parade will step off from Orange and Main in downtown Sarasota. The theme is, “All Gave Some…..Some Gave All.” Since school will be out, the only school participating will be the Sarasota Military Academy High School and Prep. All service organizations including the VFW and American Legion will participate. In addition, the Sarasota Chapter of MIA and POW’s will be present. The Sons of the American Revolution and the Daughters of the American Revolution will have a trolly and Color Guard. The Sarasota Fire Dept., SPD, and Sheriff’s Department will provide vehicles and Color Guards. Sarasota City and County will provide numerous vehicles and support for the parade. Antique military vehicles will been seen in the parade.  The Sarasota Shriners and Girl Scouts will march in the parade. May 26, 2025: TBA for 2026. The Annual Venice Area Memorial Day Ceremony will be hosted by the  American Legion NO-VEL Post 159 at 10 a.m. at Patriots Park. All veterans organizations in the Venice area are invited to participate. The public is also invited. The VFW, Civil Air Patrol, Marine Corps League and numerous other organizations will also be participating. Mayor Nick Pachota will attend and be special guest speaker. Rifle Salute, TAPS and more. May 25, 2026: Memorial Day, at 3:00 pm, there is a National Moment of Remembrance, an annual event that asks Americans, wherever they are at 3:00 pm local time, to pause for one minute to remember those who have died in military service to the United States. (Sign up here) TAPS Across America encourages all who are interested to play TAPS at 3:00 pm. The time 3 p.m. was chosen because it is the time when most Americans are enjoying time off for work for the national holiday.

May 26, 2026: The community is invited to a ribbon‑cutting ceremony to celebrate the completion of a three‑month Lido beach renourishment project. May 28 - 30, 2026Check it out! Laser Light Nights are back at The Bishop Museum of Science and Nature! Think concerts, but you’re inside a dome getting blasted with visuals from every angle. And this whole thing runs all summer, Thursdays through Saturdays, with multiple showtimes so you can stack your night. Now the lineup: Classic legends like Queen, The Beatles, and Elton John! Pop icons like Taylor Swift and The Weekend. Rock and alt like Metallica, Foo Fighters, and No Doubt. Special themed nights and throwback shows. Basically, every night hits different, so you can keep coming back and it still feels fresh. Just know it gets loud and flashy, so it’s more of a hype night out than a chill museum stroll. The event takes place every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday night from May 21 through September 5. There are various food and drink options available for purchase onsite with cash or card. Shows at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. Please note that Laser Light Nights involve bright, flashing lasers that may not be suitable for people with photo sensitivities. Viewer discretion is advised. Laser Light Nights are at a volume similar to a rock concert, so earplugs are recommended for those who prefer a lower volume. Tickets: $15. May 29 - 30, 2026: Check out the Venice Hurricane Expo. The City of Venice partners with the Venice Gondolier to hold an annual Hurricane Expo as a public service prior to hurricane season from June through November. Speaker topics include information gained and lessons learned from recent hurricanes, storm prep, the role of emergency services, stormwater/flooding, evacuation centers and the Sarasota County transportation plan, common myths and misconceptions, and what to do following a hurricane. Vendors will offer invaluable hurricane and storm-related information, products and services, and raffles and other giveaways are planned. At the City of Venice table, there will be a raffle for three weather radios. Food and drinks available for purchase. The Expo runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Admission is free.
