May 1, 2022: It's the 51st Annual Devereaux-Kaiser Car show, hosted by the Sarasota Firefighters Benevolent Fund, one of the largest shows of its type in Florida! May 1, 2022: Canceled for 2022. It's the 5th annual, 2021 Beach'n Food Truck & Music Festival. This all day family friendly festival features: several live bands, a classic car show from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m., arts and crafts vendors, a kid zone and local bands will be performing live music from 10 a.m. - 8 p.m. to keep you jamming all throughout the day into the evening...lots of food trucks including some of the area's favorite food trucks! May 2, 2022: Come out for Ringling by the Bay featuring live music and dancing with Soulrcoaster on the Bolger Campiello. May 4, 2022: Check out NBP Rec Day! This is a great opportunity for natural sound and family-friendly imagery on the water. For a small fee, children and their parents and siblings can get out on the water with their choice of our equipment, and switch out at their whim — kayaks, canoes, stand-up paddle boards, a pedal pontoon boat, even a 15-foot sailboat with captain (masks required). $10 per person. $5 per adult with accompanying child. Free for children ages 6 and younger. Family maximum: $35 (for households of five or more) All must complete the waiver form. May 5, 2022: The Cinco de Mayo Block Party will be bigger this year with an outdoor stage 40-feet long. Live music with Bri Rivera Band and DJ Natipitch. Pray with representatives from the Sarasota Police Department, Office of the Sheriff, City and County Commissioners, business leaders. Clergy from Sarasota’s Judeo Christian community shall lead prayers for reconciliations in America. Come to watch and pray for each other and America. May 6, 2022: It's the first Friday of the month on so that means Music on Main at Lakewood Ranch from 6 - 9 p.m! Beer, wine and food available. Benefiting Meals on Wheels Plus – Paul Fournier - Rock, Soul, R&B. The street is lined with food vendors, beer trucks, and sponsor booths, as well as rides and activities for the kids. May 6 - 7, 2022: You're invited to join the Sarasota Orchestra for a fan-friendly outdoor Pops concert at Ed Smith Stadium. Grab your bell bottoms and come out to the Orioles' Ed Smith Stadium for a night of music from a time when "catch you on the flip side" referred to vinyl records. Sarasota Orchestra backs the powerful vocals of Nashville-based duo Swearingen & Kelli, who faithfully recreate the magic of '70s singer-songwriters such as James Taylor, Carole King, Neil Diamond, Joni Mitchell, and more. May 7, 2022: Bring your pail, shovel, sunglasses and creativity to Siesta Key Public Beach for the Annual Siesta Key Sand Sculpture Contest. The contest, traditionally held the first Saturday of May, is held near the Pavilion on the beautiful white sandy Siesta Public Beach. Free and open to all ages of participation, the Siesta Sand Sculpture Contest also awards five cash prizes and is one of our very popular happenings for both locals and visitors on our Escape to Sarasota Calendar of Events. May 7, 2022: It's the 24th annual annual Corvettes on the Circle Car Show at the beautiful St. Armand's Circle where you can spend the day viewing over 150 models of an American automotive classic. The show will include all Corvette model years from the classic 1953 C1 to the current 2022 C8 mid-engine Corvette Stingray. Trophies will be awarded to the top three Corvettes in each generational class as well as Best in Show and Skyway Corvette Club Favorite. May 7, 2022: They're calling it Manatee's 1st Annual Taco Fest! The fest features over 150 of the Tri-State Area's Best Taco Producers alongside a variety of Specialty Cocktails and entertainment. May 9, 2022: It's Monday Night Jazz at the Florida Studio Theatre Court Cabaret with Vocalist Chiara Izzi. Award winning Italian singer, songwriter Chiara Izzi, described by Jazz Times is “a talent to be heard, admired and anticipated” after the release of her debut album “Motifs.” She is currently living in New York and performs regularly around the city in prominent jazz clubs and venues. Chiara’s International debut took place at the Montreux Jazz Festival Vocal Competition in 2011, where she was awarded first prize by the living musical legend Quincy Jones. May 20, 2022: The Hurricane Expo, originally planned for Friday, May 20, at the Venice Community Center, will be virtual this year. The video release will include staff from the Police, Fire and Engineering departments; Sarasota County Emergency Management; and ABC-7 Meteorologist Bob Harrigan. The link to this video will be posted on the city website, VeniceGov.com, and social media platforms prior to the start of the 2022 hurricane season on June 1. Having been only virtual the past couple of years due to covid, in the past this annual live parade featured local bands and choir groups, drum lines and dance teams, floats, kids decorated bike contest, food, drinks and live entertainment. A set of military marches will be performed by 19 members of the Lakewood Ranch Wind Ensemble prior to the parade. The group will be set up in the portico on the North side of main Street. The performance of these marches, including National Emblem, Pan American, American Legion, Gallant Marines, St. Julien, and Invercargill, will begin around 6 p.m. All event Proceeds Benefit Local Veterans Groups & Organizations. 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. Main Street, Lakewood Ranch, FL.
May 23, 2022: It's the 22nd Annual Siesta Key Chamber Golf Tournament at TPC Prestancia's Stadium Course. May 23, 2022: It's Monday Night Jazz at the Florida Studio Theatre Court Cabaret with The La Lucha Trio. The La Lucha Trio: Alejandro Arenas, bass; John O’Leary, piano; and Mark Feinman, drums. May 28, 2022: SRQ VETS is hosting the 7th Annual Memorial Day 5K Hike to honor the fallen heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice. This event will work to unite the local veterans and civilian communities while raising funds to support SRQ VETS and their efforts to help the local veterans. SRQ VETS is a 100% volunteer veteran-run 501c3 whose mission is to find resources and get them to our local veterans and their families. The hike will start at JD Hamel War Memorial Park then around downtown Sarasota, then down Main St. back to the Park for an afternoon of fun that includes a Cookout, Music, Rock wall Bungee Jumping, Raffles, and more. Every paid participant 21 yrs old and up will receive an event t-shirt, a lunch ticket, 1 beverage ticket. Every paid participant that is 13 to 20 yrs old will receive an event t-shirt, a lunch ticket, 1 N/A drink ticket. May 28, 2022: This year Memorial Day at the Sarasota National Cemetery will honor America's fallen military members in remembrance of their ultimate sacrifice. From 9 a.m. - Noon there will also be vocalists and musicians in place throughout the cemetery performing patriotic music. A video documenting the life of Master Sergeant Charles Brown. He was missing in action and presumed dead for nearly 60 years. Near 2019, his remains were repatriated and now rest at Sarasota National Cemetery. 10 00 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. there will be a live ceremony in Patriot Plaza including reading the names of fallen military members and the playing of Taps, and a wreath ceremony. May 30, 2022: The Sarasota Memorial Day Parade will recognize and honor our fallen brothers and sisters who died in the name of Freedom. There will be approximately 35 non-commercial units in the parade including Sarasota Veterans groups, Sons of the American Revolution, Daughters of the American Revolution, Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, various church groups, The Sarasota Military Academy, high school JROTC units, Biker Vets, The Antique Car Club, British Antique Car Club, Civil Air Patrol, Veterans Jeep Club, Sarasota Police Department, Sarasota Fire Department, Sarasota Sheriff’s Department, and many other patriotic groups. Micah Adams will play the bagpipes during the parade and ceremony and Megan Ronan will sing the National Anthem and God Bless America. Cynthia West will be the featured speaker during the Memorial Day ceremony at Chaplain J.D. Hamel Park. Cynthia is a graduate of the Sarasota High School JROTC program and she was commissioned as an officer in the Army and is Airborne qualified.
