May 1, 2020: Canceled. It's the first Friday of the month on so that means Music on Main at Lakewood Ranch from 6 - 9 p.m! Beer, wine and food available. The Midnight Mama band will fill the air with a mix of rock/soul & dance music. The street is lined with food vendors, beer trucks, and sponsor booths, as well as rides and activities for the kids. Bring your chairs, but leave coolers at home. Dogs are welcome, but must be kept on a short leash. Overflow parking is available at the Lakewood Ranch Medical Center. Lakewood Ranch is off University Parkway east of I-75.

May 1, 2020: Canceled. Get Funky At The Ringling with CIMAFUNK! It's an After "Season" Party to celebrate the end of the 2019/2020 season and the beginning of Summer with the Afro-Cuban tropical beats of Cimafunk, who is by far the most exciting new face in Cuba's music scene. Named by Billboard as one of "10 Latin Artists to watch in 2019", he has taken every stage by storm. Feel the Afro-Cuban beat and let that Havana heat head right down to your feet for a special dance party in The Ringling's courtyard. Siesta Key Sand Sculpture Contest Sarasota Florida

May 2, 2020: Bring your pail, shovel, sunglasses and creativity to Siesta Key Public Beach on for the Annual Siesta Key Sand Sculpture Contest. The contest, traditionally held the first Saturday of May, is held near the Pavilion on the beautiful white sandy Siesta Public Beach. Free and open to all ages of participation, the Siesta Sand Sculpture Contest also awards five cash prizes and is one of our very popular happenings for both locals and visitors on our Escape to Sarasota Calendar of Events. May 2, 2020: It's the 23rdyear for Corvettes on the Circle taking place on St. Armand’s Circle. This show will feature present day models back to the classics of 1953. Over 150 pristine & original Class Corvettes will be on display in the Circle Park. Trophies will be awarded to the top three Corvettes in each generational class as well as Best Interior, Best Engine Bay, Best Paint Finish, Best in Show and Skyway Corvette Club Favorite. May 2, 2020: Canceled. Check out some heavenly bodies during Sidewalk Astronomy courtesy of the Local Group of Deep Sky Observers. Telescopes will be up and available for public viewing from sunset. - 10 p.m. - 10:30 p.m. (weather permitting). At Riverview High School, 1 Ram Way, Sarasota, FL. Sidewalk Astronomy at Sarasota's Riverview High School Planetarium is located on the Sidewalk outside the Planetarium theater.

May 2 - May 31, 2020: The Sarasota Chalk Festival opens its "3-D Illusion Museum," where you can walk in and become part of the artwork by stepping into the illusion! The museum includes over 25 illusions which were hand painted by artists from the Chalk Festival. $5 - $25. Chalk Festival 3D Illusion Museum, 1314 10th St., Sarasota, FL.

May 7 - 9, 2020: The 11th annual Harvey Milk Festival features a variety of music, art, theatre and film events over three days. May 8, 2020: Check out Spooky Stories Ghost Tours at Historic Spanish Point. Enjoy Spooky Stories of Florida's past as you walk our historic houses, ancient mounds, and our pioneer cemetery. There will be two tours each evening. The tours will meet at the white Gazebo on the Historic Spanish Point site and each tour will last approximately 90 minutes and will be roughly a ¾ of a mile walk outdoors with some pathways up and down stairs. In the event that the tour is canceled due to severe weather conditions, then it will be rescheduled for the following Friday. 8 p.m. & 9 p.m. Historic Spanish Point Members: $20. May 8 - May 9, 2020: You're invited to join the Sarasota Orchestra for a fan-friendly outdoor Pops concert at Ed Smith Stadium. The Orchestra's 7th annual concert at the ballpark will feature iconic songs of the 1970s. Enjoy classic favorites such as James Taylor’s Fire and Rain, Fleetwood Mac’s Landslide, Carole King’s You’ve Got a Friend and so much more. A spectacular fireworks display closes out an evening of hits and home runs. Tickets $15 - $48. May 8 - 10, 2020: It's the 4th annual Venice Seafood & Music Festival taking place in Centennial Park featuring seafood, meat and vegetarian delights prepared fresh on site by local Venice restaurants along with drinks. Enjoy your foodie experience while jamming to live musical performances on stage by some of Florida’s and the region’s top musical talents. Music will be from such genres and R&B, jazz, rock, reggae and Caribbean sounds. There will also be a marketplace of arts and crafts, gourmet food items and specialty products. Free admission. May 9, 2020: Postponed to 2021. It's the Great Mother’s Day Race 5K Run/Walk Sarasota. This 5K race is at the number one beach in the world: Siesta Key Beach. Not only will you run next to pristine waters, you’ll get to experience the incredible white sands. It doesn’t get better than this! They offer free race pictures, dry-fit shirt, race medal, custom bib, goodie bag, awards and prizes, food and drinks, and more. Registration Prices/dates vary. May 9, 2020 - June 14, 2020: It's time to drop your hook, line and sinker for the 90th Annual Sarasota Tarpon Tournament! Entry fee is $125 and proceeds benefit a local charitable organization. Important Dates: The Kick-Off Celebration for the start of Tarpon Season  will be held on Wednesday, May 6th at The White Buffalo Saloon in Sarasota with registration starting at 6:00 p.m. and the party starting at 7:00 p.m. Your $150 entry into the tournament gets you food and fun and a cash bar will be available. Happy angling and may you catch your share!

May 16, 2020: It's the Sarasota International Dragon Boat Festival. Everyone ages 12+ are invited to take part. Gather 24 of your friends, co-workers, church friends, family, etc. and form a team! Boats, life-vests, paddles and coaches are provided...you provide the fun! Race distances include 200m and 500m events for Sport and Community Division teams, with the addition of the ever-thrilling 2k pursuit for Sport Division teams only. Interested teams are required to sign up in advance for a fee. Various entrant/team fees. Beer tent, food truck vendors, Health & Wellness Village, Marketplace, Entertainment and more. May 16, 2020: The Annual Tree Fair, sponsored by People for Trees, will have hundreds of 3-gallon native trees (4-8ft. tall) for sale for only $15 each: sweetgum, elm, bald cypress, slash pine, longleaf pine, southern red cedar, dahoon holly, pignut hickory, red maple, sycamore, sugarberry. Informational “Tree Talks” will be held throughout the morning about all of these wonderful native trees starting at 10 a.m.  There will be tree planting and tree climbing demonstrations, and you can “Ask an Arborist” your tree questions courtesy of Simply Trees. See the four stages of a butterfly and feed one right from your hand at “The Butterfly Encounter”, a screened-in exhibit, meet “Orion”, a barred owl from the Peace River Wildlife Center. May 18, 2019: The hits will keep on coming as Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe partners with the Orioles to present the '70s Soul Party. The event will feature WBTT's Soul Crooners and sizzling band performing nearly two hours of music -- featuring the chart-topping soul hits of the 1970s -- under the direction of WBTT Founder and Artistic Director Nate Jacobs. Dancing in your seats or on your feet will be highly encouraged, as the Crooners knock '70s favorites out of the park, with selections including "Superstition," "Let's Get It On," "I Want You Back," "Brick House," "September," and many, many more. Ballpark fare will be available for purchase. The concert will conclude with a dazzling fireworks display. Tickets $15 - $45. May 19, 2019: Celebrate Overtown Heritage Day at the Rosemary Square Courtyard with speakers, food, performances, kids activities and more. May 22 - 24, 2020: Check out and enjoy the 4th Annual St. Armand’s Seafood & Music Festival. There will be delectable seafood dishes and entertainment by top local and regional musical performers. Foods will be accompanied by a delicious assortment of side dishes, desserts and drinks, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic. While enjoying your meal and drinks, be caressed by the captivating sounds of live musical performances on stage by some of Florida’s and the region’s top musical talents. Friday evening enjoy The Whole Band featuring Callie Chappell (Americana, rock, variety), West Coast Steel Pan Band (jazz, Caribbean) and Twinkle & Rock Soul Radio (soul, rock). May 24, 2020:  Enjoy the season finale of the Selby Garden Music Series with live music by local favorite, Ari and the Alibis returns to the Garden Music Series again this spring. Infusing, Funk, Jazz and Samba with Blues, Soul and Rock, Ari and the Alibis take the audience on a musical journey where anything is possible. Bring your lawn chair or blanket. Limited seating provided on first come, first served basis. Grilled foods will be available for purchase from the Michael’s on East grill including a cash bar of beer, wine, Bloody Mary’s and Mimosas. Memorial Day Weekend Events

May 24, 2020: It's the special "A Tribute to Heroes" Memorial Day Parade on Main Street in Lakewood Ranch from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. Sunday evening. The parade will begin promptly at 7 p.m. Local bands and choir groups, drum lines and dance teams, floats, kids decorated bike contest, food, drinks and live entertainment. There will also be before and after parade festivities. Pre-parade block party starts at 6 p.m. with the street festivities continuing after the parade. Attendees are welcome to bring chairs and their four-legged friends (on a leash), but please note that coolers are not allowed. VIP area for veterans. Proceeds benefit local veterans groups. May 25, 2020: Sarasota Memorial Day Parade: The Sarasota Patriotic Observance Committee encourages all Sarasota residents to line Main Street as we recognize the sacrifices, courage, and patriotism demonstrated by Veterans. The parade will honor our fallen brothers and sisters who stood for the United States of America and pledged their lives for our freedom. The parade will consist of Color Guards, local Veteran's organizations, Civic Clubs and others. The Sarasota Military Academy, Sarasota High School, Booker High School, and Riverview High School, Venice Middle School Young Marines will March bands and JROTC units. The parade starts at exactly 10 a.m. at Osprey and Main and conclude at the West end of Main Street. The Memorial Day ceremony will be held at Rev. J.D. May 25, 2019: A program honoring America's fallen soldiers and their families will take place in honor of Memorial Day at Sarasota National Cemetery with special guests and dignitaries. Local artists will perform a medley of patriotic music as the lives of fallen troops are honored and remembered. Patriot Plaza has ample seating, however, visitors may bring lawn chairs should they prefer seating with a back. Ceremonies will begin at 10:00 a.m. Free admission. May 25, 2019: They say the SRQ Margarita Festival is the perfect combination of tequila and a music festival. The event will feature 12+ types of margaritas, great bands, food trucks, games, and a fireworks show to end the night. Music line up features Have Gun, Will Travel, Come Back Alice, HoneyWhat, Ashley Smith & The Random Occurrence, Shevonne, and Independent Jones.General Admission tickets include admission to the music festival. May 25, 2019: Celebrate the suds! The Venice Brew Bash 8 returns to Centennial Park with over 60 craft and imported beers. Representatives from the breweries will be on hand to answer any questions you may have. There will be beer on tap for sale and food vendors plus live entertainment. Must be 21 and older to attend. May 25, 2019: It's Patriotic Pops at Cool Today Park with the Venice Symphony Orchestra. Troy Quinn will lead more than 70 Venice Symphony musicians in a concert of great American standards, film music, an Armed Forces Medley, tribute to veterans, and more. A fireworks display will follow the concert. 7:30 p.m. Gates open at 5:30 pm. Tickets from $15, youth tickets $10. Parking is $5 per car. May 25 - 27, 2019: In gratitude for their service, United States Armed Forces personnel will be honored and celebrated at Sarasota Jungle Gardens for Memorial Day. Veterans and all all active duty military members and their families are eligible to receive one free admission (with valid ID)  with the purchase of one adult or child’s regularly priced same day admission ((Free admission for all active & retired military  with purchase of same day full priced admission - see venue for details). Memorial Day Weekend Events

May 27, 2019: The Manatee County Veterans’ Council (MCVC) will present the 2019 Memorial Day Ceremony at Veterans’ Monument Park. There will also be many Veteran related organizations laying wreaths in honor of those that made the ultimate sacrifice. Those organizations include; The Daughters of the American Revolution, the American Legion, Elks, VFW, Korean War, Vietnam War, WWII, WWI and the Gulf War era. 9 a.m. Veterans’ Monument Park is located directly behind the Manatee Memorial Hospital near U.S. 41 and the Bradenton Riverwalk, Bradenton, FL. May 27, 2019: The Annual Venice Area Memorial Day Ceremony will be held at Patriots Park. American Legion NO-VEL Post will once again be the host. This will be a joint service with all of the Venice Area Veterans organizations (VFW, DAV, Marine Corps League) participating. Each organization and their auxiliaries will be laying wreaths. Guests presenters include Mayor John Holic and County Commissioner Charles Hines. Music will be provide by the Suncoast wind ensemble. Guests are asked to bring a chair. May 27, 2019: Snook Haven along with the Suncoast Blues Society present the 8th Annual Myakka River Blues Festival on Memorial Day. This year's headliner is Bryan Lee, a 2010 Grammy Nominee. The lineup also includes The Kat Crosby Band, The Collaboration Band, Sarasota Slim, Ghost Mountain Revival Band and Ben Prestage. Snook Haven is off the beaten path, near the riverbed in a natural cove with true old Florida ambiance. Two stages with non-stop music with styles from the Chicago blues scene to southern style blues. Tickets: $15 pre-sale and $25 at the door. May 31 - June 21, 2020: The Sarasota Orchestra presents The Sarasota Music Festival. From Artist Showcases, Friday Festivals, Saturday Symphonies, Rising Stars, Special Recitals, and more, there's lots to take in. For three weeks you can enjoy the best up and coming young musicians from around the world along with chamber music, master classes and concerts. Enjoy classical music at its finest. May 31, 2019: It's the 20th Annual Siesta Key Chamber Golf Tournament at TPC Prestancia's Stadium Course. This private outing presents a unique opportunity for Chamber members and guests to play a round of golf on the private, championship-style course. 7:30 a.m. Registration starts along with complimentary continental breakfast. 9:00 a.m. Shotgun start; tournament commences.
