December 1, 2022: The John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art is pleased to announce the return of one of Sarasota’s beloved holiday traditions! Holiday Splendor will be held with free admission to the museum and Ca’d’Zan mansion for all who bring a new, unwrapped toy. The evening helps support the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots annual toy collection drive. The toys will benefit children in Sarasota and Manatee counties. Local schools will provide musical entertainment on the Bolger Campiello. Food and beverage will be available for purchase. All venues will be open for self-touring, including the Museum of Art, Ca' d'Zan and the Circus Museum. Admission to this event is free with one unwrapped toy per person. Regular admission will apply without a toy donation. $15 Adult / $5 Child. Guests are encouraged to shop in the Museum Store, which has a large selection of toys under $20. December 1 - 4, 2022: For your viewing pleasure, The Orchid Show 2022: "Capturing the Perfect Shot," will showcase the breathtaking camerawork of a group of devoted Selby Gardens volunteers and will celebrate the beauty and diversity of orchids by featuring the stunning scientific photography of Selby Garden's own rare orchid collection.. Their images spanning 15-plus years convey the magic and majesty of orchids, while also contributing significantly to botanical science. The diverse array of orchid imagery will be displayed within the galleries of the Museum of Botany & the Arts as well as in the Tropical Conservatory of our Downtown Sarasota campus. The Rink at UTC, presented by the Tampa Bay Rays, opens November 25th and will run daily through January 2nd. All visits must be reserved in advance by purchasing a timed ticket(s) online. December 1 - January 3, 2023: Deck the Palms for a wintry wonderland. The Park at St. Armands Circle will be transformed into a winter wonderland beginning November 18th through January 3rd during The Winter Spectacular, a family-fun holiday experience for all ages. Featuring ice-skating, festive rides, interactive holiday activities, and a fantastic lineup of free local entertainment – Circle visitors will leave inspired by the magic of the holidays. December 2, 2022: Check out Jazz at Two with The Ron Kraemer Trio with “Detroit” Mike Hepner. Ron Kraemer brings his unique blend of jazz, blues and swing to Jazz at Two. A guitarist and bandleader, Kraemer has been fronting his own group since 1995, back in Trenton, NJ. Enjoy a swingin’ afternoon of jazzy blues from this talented trio along with the special guest. December 2, 2022: Lakewood Ranch presents Music on Main the first Friday of each month from 6 p.m.- 9 p.m.; a free concert and block party. K-Luv and the United Funk Foundation will fill the air with party, dance and funk music; the deejay will keep you dancing with today’s Top 100 hits. The street is lined with food vendors, beer trucks, and sponsor booths, as well as rides and activities for the kids. Guests are welcome to bring chairs, but please leave coolers at home. December 2 - 3, 2022: Celebrate the holiday season with the return of Palmetto’s Christmas in the Park at the Palmetto Historical Park & Manatee County Agricultural Museum. Visit with Santa in the chapel where kids young and old will be able to tell Santa their Christmas wishes, parents don’t forget your cameras. Feel free to bring a letter for Santa and either place it in the mailbox or hand it to him to read later. When you leave Santa you are encouraged to enjoy the Palmetto Historical Park grounds where there will be several activities including reindeer games and crafts. December 2, 4, 2022: Sarasota Christmas presents "Sights and Sounds of Christmas” on December 2nd and 4th.This year their Sarasota Christmas production team, including adults, students, and children, will join together to bring you an all-new enjoyable and meaningful start to the Christmas season featuring your very favorite Christmas songs and carols. You’ll be invited to join in and sing along! The words and Christmas scenes will be projected above the performers. After the music, enjoy free hot chocolate and coffee, and if you choose, you can purchase some goodies from several local food trucks and vendors such as funnel cakes and kettle corn. Parents, we will also have areas set up for children to decorate their very own Christmas Ornament to take home with them and another area set up to decorate their own Christmas Cookie! December 3, 2022: It's the North Port Poinsettia Parade. The Poinsettia Parade will start at 5 p.m. and march south down Sumter Boulevard from Sylvania Avenue through the City Center Campus, ending at the Festival (a prime location to catch the parade). This year's theme is “What a Wonderful North Port Life!” Floats adorned with poinsettias, decorated vehicles, and escorted by North Port Fire Rescue, Jolly Ole St. Nick will make a special appearance in the parade. The parade will end at the annual Poinsettia Festival. The Festival will include a tree lighting ceremony and will take place throughout the grounds of the City Center Campus, including on the Front Green and inside City Hall. December 3, 2022: Check out some heavenly bodies during Sidewalk Astronomy courtesy of the local group of Deep Sky Observers. Telescopes will be up and available for public viewing from 6 p.m. - 10 p.m. (weather permitting).The evening’s observing highlights will feature a veritable parade of planets: Mars, Jupiter and Saturn will all be targets, and even the two most distant planets, Uranus and Neptune, will be observable through the telescopes during the course of the evening. In addition, phenomenal close-up details of the waxing gibbous Moon will also be offered through the club member’s telescopes during the night. Celery Fields / Sarasota Audubon. December 3, 2022: The Venice Christmas Boat Parade starts at 6 p.m. (rain date is the next day) along the Intracoastal Waterway in Venice starting at the Albee Road Bridge in Nokomis and moving south along the waterway with turnaround before the Circus Bridge in Venice. Spectators line the north (at South Nokomis Beach) and south (at North Venice Beach) jetties and throughout the downtown and Venice waterfront areas to the judging area near the south Circus Bridge for a view of the brightly lit and colorfully decorated “Christmas Boats.” 6 p.m. Admission is free. December 3, 2022:Bradenton Beach Marina will present the 4th Annual Bradenton Beach Holiday Boat Parade. Boat owners are invited to show off their holiday spirit and their beautifully lit vessels in a Parade along the Intracoastal Waterway. The event will begin at 6 p.m. and will last between 60 to 90 minutes. Route: Vessels in the Parade will gather near the south end of Jewfish Key. The parade will head northwest along the Longboat Pass Bridge and then north up the Intracoastal Waterway. The parade will pass alongside the Bradenton Beach City Pier and end at the Bradenton Beach Marina. The Longboat Pass Bridge at the beginning of the Parade (6:00 PM to 6:30 PM). The Bradenton Beach City Pier as the Parade ends (6:30 PM to 7:00 PM). Free. December 3, 2022: It's the Desoto Square Mall Annual Christmas Parade put on by the Sarasota Jeep Club. Be sure to deck out your Jeep with your favorite lights and decorations- the more the merrier! They'll meet on the northwest side of the old JC Penney store at Desoto Square Mall in Bradenton starting at 6:30 pm. The convoy will pull out at 7 pm. The route includes Bradenton, Anna Maria Island, Longboat Key, St. Armand's Circle and Siesta Key. Event Timeline: 6:30 pm: Meet at DeSoto Square Mall in Bradenton, 6:45 pm: Begin lining up in parking lot, 7 pm: Begin parade, 8:30 pm: meet at Daquiri Deck in Siesta Key Village afterwards.
December 3, 2022: The 26th Annual Sarasota Holiday Parade takes place in downtown Sarasota on the first Saturday evening of December. With thousands participating and even more thousands viewing, the parade kicks off at 7 p.m. with decorated floats, live marching bands and the guest of honor "rounding" out the parade, Santa Claus. December 10, 2022: Canceled for 2022. It's the 15th Annual Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony at the Arboretum at West Blalock Park is canceled. The Venice Holiday Tree Lighting event, unfortunately, has been cancelled this year due to the damage done to the Monty Andrews Arboretum at Blalock Park from Hurricane Ian on Sept. 28, 2022. Some of the trees in the park were destroyed and had to be removed. Other trees sustained major damage. The Arboretum crew, along with the Public Works Department and the Arborist from the City of Venice have assessed the status of the remaining trees in the park and have concluded that it is best to CANCEL the Tree Lighting Event for this year. December 25, 2022: The annual Pinecraft Christmas Parade usually draws over 1,000 spectators to this Sarasota Amish and Mennonite Community for the parade, traditionally held on Christmas afternoon, winding through the neighborhood streets. Started by local resident Mike Miller in 1999, it's the biggest event of the year in the neighborhood. Assemble in parking lot at Der Dutchman restaurant, 3713 Bahia Vista Street, beginning at 1:00 p.m. or right soon after lunch. Parade starts after that about 3 p.m. Bring a lawn chair for a sidewalk seat. Anyone is welcome to ride in parade. December 26, 2022: It's the Siesta Key "Santa Stumble" Pub Crawl hosted by the Block that Roxx in Siesta Key Village. The ‘party’ kicks off at 1 p.m. and continues until 1 a.m. The BIG New Year's Eve party in Sarasota is the annual Pineapple Drop Block Party! The dropping of the big glowing pineapple comes at midnight and takes place at the intersection of Lemon Avenue and Main Street in downtown and there's a fantastic firework display on Sarasota Bay.
